Having a completely quiet canyon run, is interesting to say the least. The fastest car isn't always the best canyon car. The suspension mods definitely help, the model 3 isn't a bad car and can handle a canyon. This is really an EV out of it's comfort-zone, and I think that since it's doing an okay job that shows something. I agree with you on your point about the powerband, and not having to think about being in the right gear or rpm. It's like a really well dialed-in porsche the way it carries speed out of corners. But like you said more of a novelty experience; If acceleration and instantaneous torque are the best parts, it's really not the most ideal canyon car.

You should try my Model 3 at the track one of these days to see how much more fun it can be when you swap out all the soft rubber bushings. It also has traction control modification which is way better than regular track mode.

I can't wait for the first proper EV sports car (that isn't the Roadster from 2008). Alpine are supposedly working on one for 2025. The Rimac is batshit but again, uber expensive hypercar. I want to see a sub 1500kg flea sized EV that's actually fun to drive, with a steering rack that isn't dreadful.

Lotus says their next 2dr coupe coming in 2025 as a 2026 model will be a ground up ev and weigh within 100# of the current emira.
Porsche says the next Cayman boxter model's will be ground up evs and also are targeting weight within 100# of the current 6cyl 718s.
Checkout the Porsche cayman gt4e performance for an idea where they are headed. Awd dual motors 1000hp 82kwh pack weighs 3400#
Mg has the cyberster coming soon a 2dr convertible roadster ev with supposedly up to 500 miles of range and a tri motor variant.

Where did you get 4600#? The heaviest model 3 right now is 4100# lightest model is 3600# not 4600# that's the weight of a model s lr.
Even the plaid only weighs 4800# with 3 motors and has 1000+hp. 🤔

@@4literv6 1:07 Seems it’s 4,300lbs. My opinion is the same. I don’t want a 4300 pound canyon carver. I’ll check it out for myself though as they seem pretty easy to get a hold of these days - half the cars on Turo seem like they are Model 3s haha. I just have a big preference for Ford ST/Mini/MR2/Miata/E36 type cars because of their lighter weight and the fact that I have to earn speed

Great to see another EV review on your channel Fenton. Your giggling here has me looking forward to you reviewing a Model S Plaid. As a pasenger it was far beyond my expectation. Completely unsettling. Sure it's got stupid hyper-car level accelleration, but I think the ultra pricice stability control with L vs R rear torque vectoring is the secret sauce that breaks the laws of physics and makes an extra ton dissapear. If it ever ships, I would imagine the new Roadster will come with diapers and a free therapy session. 😱

I think the lack of engine sounds and vibrations has left you confused about the steering feel in the model 3. The model 3 has a 11:1 quick rack hydraulic, not electric, (vs s2000 w/13:1)and some of the best feel of any car I've driven and I've driven basically everything. I would venture to say nothing else in a 4 door has a rack this quick or the composure to utilize it safely. Perhaps you were driving it in comfort vs sport mode steering, this makes quite a difference.

    • @tractioncontroldelete
      @tractioncontroldelete 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Good point. According to motor trend it’s a variable rack and car be as low as 10.3 to 1

    • @hyemihyemi

Oh that's something I hadn't considered. I've test driven a Model 3 LR... Polestar 2... Kia EV6 and even a BMW i4 M50/RWD version I forget what it's called exactly and my biggest complaint in comparison to my WRX was... the handling felt dead/lifeless and in general the cars felt a bit barren to me. All 4 cars would smoke my WRX in terms of speed and honestly even with heavier turns involved no doubt. But... in terms of enjoyment... I'd rather take a slower ICE car that allows me to feel the grip and to truly feel connected to the car via hearing the exhaust... engine... vibrations... etc.
But I distinctly remember for the Model 3 like... I didn't like the handling. Sure it was responsive but I just didn't feel connected to it if that makes sense. Like when I take a harder corner on my WRX... you feel it with the wheel/tires and feel of the car's body/chassis. Model 3... I didn't feel the feedback but thinking back I do wonder if it's all placebo with the lack of engine noise and especially vibrations as you said.
All this really does make me wonder what the future holds for driving enthusiasts and those who love driving haha. Like... EVs are technically great and are improving but the driver feel and feedback I feel like is something that isn't there yet and Idk if it ever will be and that kind of scares me for the future haha. But good point on that~

Feel, really? I've heard that the rack is quick and accurate, but dead. And, I have one, with MP Comfort Adjustable, lowered and inch and I love it. Savage Geese guys say the Lucid Pure read drive has steering feel and, of course, The Taycan.

Less EV reviews, the driving parts aren't as fun to watch without an engine sound.
I drove a model S a couple years ago on a canyon road and came back disappointed. Besides for the novelty of the acceleration I hated everything about the driving experience.
The worst steering feel out of any car I've ever driven and the suspension was too soft and floaty.
I drove a GS350 F Sport after it and found it way more fun and engaging, I never thought I'd say that about a Lexus GS lol

I've been a fan of yours for quite some time, and seldom comment, but in this case, seeing as you asked, and based on what I perceived as previous unbiased honest reviews, which was one of the reasons why I enjoyed your channel, the review of the modded model 3 Tesla and almost desperate sounding appeal for more evs has me wondering if a sponsor has made a juicy offer you can't refuse. Yes, with the right tires a Tesla will have tenacious grip and the electric motors will provide all the torque you could ever need, but seriously, fun to drive? To be fair you did mention the novelty factor but at the same time there was no mention of the 2 ton mass, lack of noise or driver engagement other than you could keep both hands on the wheel. If I lived in the U.S. I would offer you a high performance fridge to check out! Evs are the future but for the meantime are a boring facimile.
Looking forward to a video of a 718 Porsche with the 4 litre engine and more unbiased content.
Still a fan, but please don't sell your soul to the devil.

Nice build on the Model 3. From what I have seen, the Model 3 is not a true Drivers car. Great car and features, but it does seem to reach that drivers experience like a true sports car. Smiles per miles ratio is not just there yet.
