  • The Piper Cub J3 could quite possibly be my new favorite airplane i've flown. Hands down one of the most enjoyable flights i've done. I went up in a 1944 Piper J3 Cub, with a C85, 85hp engine, no electric start and pure taildragger flying. I learned alot on this trip. Unfortunately didn't have my gopro, so I filmed the most scenes I could with the phone.

Congratulations on that fantastic ride in that Piper Cub. Did he put that Cub into a spin? Sure looked like it! LOL

Great video!!! I smiled all the way through. I think they're an amazing airplane too and make all other aircraft seem a lot less interesting to ride in. I fly a modern replica - Legend AL3 and its the same smiling experience (maybe not the 1946 nostalgia) but has lots of niceties added with more performance. Flying over stunning scenery at 70 knots with the door open and the wind in your face on a gorgeous day. It doesn't get better than this except for the fun of landing her!

The grass strip you landed on is not North of Albert Whitted it is East of it across Tampa Bay not the Ocean the Name of the Airport is “Airport Manatee ( 48X ) and is a cool little strip. Did you see the crashed plane in the hanger?

You flew across Tampa Bay, not the ocean. Anything for clicks.
