    I think you said it right at the beginning. It is the laid back lifestyle, the scenery, and the weather that attracts us to Vancouver. Flowers coming up in January versus May. Just planted by cucumbers, tomatoes and flowers as we often do every Victoria Day weekend. I can't stand these 8 month long winters.
    My wife currently works in tourism shuttling people back and forth between Toronto and Niagara Falls. She speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and English so that might be a good fit for her to get a job in Tourism. For me, I want a place with natural light so when I am working on my next video I can at least stay outside. Close walk to the beach for inspiration and camera tests.
    14 days until we are out there. Can't wait to put boots on the ground. This trip has a different purpose for us Sebastian. We need to get a solid understanding of the neighbourhoods and which would be best for us. And maybe a little bit of relaxation too... can't be all work ;)

      @@LivingInVancouver-BC That's good to hear. Retiring to Vancouver is always on our mind. We talk about it every day. Susan just asked me about one of the suburbs. I think it was Burnaby. I said the purpose of the trip is to check out the area. Get a feel for different places and not just to go where we want to go. See where we can get value.

    One of the major concern about relocating or migrating to Vancouver BC (or any other places), is the concern about income/jobs/business. While finding the best most affordable neighbourhood and home, and safe and good schools for children, another major concern is - will we ever be able to survive? And how long?

    I am shocked after jobs market research))
    For experienced accounting professionals best offer in Vancouver is the same as in Winnipeg Lol …. You need to be a doctor or have a company in order to make positive balance in the end of the month

    • @LivingInVancouver-BC
      @LivingInVancouver-BC  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @romank5498 It'll depend on what you do, how much demand there is for your expertise, and the company you work for...there are fields that pay better in Vancouver and many that don't. Many corporations feel that they don't need to pay higher wages in Vancouver as the city itself is a recruiting draw, unlike a place like Winnipeg for example.

    I Am Saving up For Holiday To Vancouver weres the cheap Air B and B At And Hope there No Bed Bugs Do I Need ETA to Get in

      @LivingInVancouver-BC  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’d worry about bedbugs with cheap hotel rooms but not really an issue with airbnbs. What you need to be concerned with is whether the Airbnb is legal or not though. New legislation that took effect may 1st 2024 has changed the landscape significantly.

    You make it sound like Vancouver is the best place to live in Canada when in fact, it's the worst by far. We have the highest cost of living, highest gas prices, highest housing prices in all of Canada. And where the rest of Canada gets a carbon tax rebate. Our BC NDP pockets it all. Granville/Broadway road block construction has been on going for nearly a decade, nothing gets done here. My aunt passed away from waiting for breast cancer surgery in Burnaby BC. The joke health care system is only getting exponentially worse with unsustainable number of new immigrants and refugees entering per year. Crime and drugs are out of control. The number of break ins and car thieves are catching up to 3rd world countries. I can go on and on. As a 43 year old Canadian who grew up in Vancouver BC, I can honestly say this, if you want to go deeper into poverty year after year, then Vancouver is the place for you.

      This video wasn't about whether Vancouver is the best place to live in Canada or not. It's about job opportunities and the economy of Vancouver. But quite objectively, it IS one of the most desirable places to live in Canada and that is evidenced by the growth of the region over the course of decades. I've got plenty of videos talking about some of the drawbacks of living here. I don't claim it's perfect...but I'm also not as pessimistic as you appear to be. Appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts, though.

      No worries @XMG3 and thank you for saying that. ;) I was born and raised here, too...but I still love this city and I choose to dwell on the positives more than the negatives. I agree with you that it doesn't serve anyone to completely ignore the downsides. And those of us that can be vocal about constructive criticisms can help make sure this continues to be a great place to live for generations to come (I hope).

      @@LivingInVancouver-BC Very simple. Vancouver is viewed positively for work from home jobs, but any hands-on productivity work, there's not enough space. Anyone who's seen how they keep squeezing another bike lane, understand this model for growth only works for business not taking up operation space. Business like multiple family housing real estate, banking, international contractors, software; since they all don't need huge space, including perhaps even research, those sectors are strongest selling point on Vancouver. Manufacturing literally cannot exist. Especially most most people I see here who work in manufacturing are more miserable than those I've encountered in other countries with high skills training.

    Appalling healthcare though.....one in 5 do not have access to a family doc.

    • @LivingInVancouver-BC
      @LivingInVancouver-BC  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @mke9925 that’s a number that’s dropping as the government is directly tackling that issue. But honestly, it hasn’t been my experience. With effort and determination it’s been pretty easy for me to find a doctor in Vancouver when i have looked for one. I’d also say my experience of our healthcare system has been nothing but amazing and I’m grateful for the quality that we do have.

    • @mke9925
      @mke9925 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@LivingInVancouver-BC It's really hit and miss. Newcomers have it bad - really difficult to find family docs.
      I also know people who have waited for months for a definitive cancer diagnosis.

    • @LivingInVancouver-BC
      @LivingInVancouver-BC  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @mke9925 I can imagine for people new to Canada it would difficult to understand how you might go about finding a doctor. I just don't think that equates to a bad healthcare system. And I'm sure that (unfortunately) some people fall through the cracks. I know that many people have their own negative experiences with our healthcare system...but that's the nature of a massive system like this (there are inefficiencies and mistakes that are made). I agree with you that it could be better, but I still feel we are lucky to have access to the healthcare system we have.

    • @mke9925
      @mke9925 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's of course an academic exercise when it's not someone close to you whose cancer has progressed irreversibly while waiting for a diagnosis (I am not even talking about treatment). Anyway, if the objective here is to sing the praises of Vancouver and BC I concur it is a nice place but I rest my case that healthcare is frustrating to say the least. You only have to compare various global studies of $ spent per capita vs health outcomes with other OECD countries.

    • @LivingInVancouver-BC
      @LivingInVancouver-BC  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @mke9925 This channel is definitely NOT about just singing Vancouver's praises. It's about giving people who don't live here an idea of what it's like to live in Vancouver from the perspective of a Vancouverite. Someone that was born and raised here. So...I talk quite a bit about the good AND the bad of life in Vancouver.
      As for healthcare, my personal view is that it's not a negative of living here. Like I said, I know that there are issues and that there is room for improvement. Can we claim it to be the best in the world? No...but it is up there. And while I haven't seen the studies you mention, I think one thing to keep in mind is that Canada is a vast country. FAR bigger than other OECD countries with high densities of population in very specific areas and mostly sparsely populated areas. It makes providing the same level of care throughout the country uniquely challenging. We cannot provide the same level of care in rural northern Saskatchewan as we can in Downtown Toronto or Vancouver. So I can see how Canada would compare poorly to countries like Switzerland, Germany or France....and they won't be reflect the experience that we have living in Vancouver.
      Over the last 10-15 years I've had considerable personal interactions with our healthcare system. Close family members with cancer, terminally ill family, multiple child births, sick/injured kids, etc. All of those experiences were highly positive (from the perspective of the system). None of this takes away from your own personal experience, of course. I understand you are saying that you had a more negative interaction...and I'm sorry for that. I'm just saying that from what I see I disagree that our system is "appalling". Our healthcare system has room for improvement but I feel that we are lucky to have the system that we have.
      @mke9925 In any case, I know we won't agree on this. That's ok. To be honest, we need people that aren't happy with our system to be vocal about it...as things won't get better without people speaking up. So, thank you for bringing your perspective forward! :)

    A lot of wrong information . Pixar Canada was closed ten years ago, for example. And the tech market in Vancouver is horrible since a couple of years. A lot of people have been laid off and people are struggling to get a job and the pay here is so low compared to its cost of living. Please stop bragging about Vancouver and make objective videos.

    • @LivingInVancouver-BC
      @LivingInVancouver-BC  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Appreciate the correction on Pixar @YushinWE. You are correct that they did leave Vancouver...but that doesn't change the overall sentiment of the video.
      Here's a quote from the Vancouver Economic Commission:
      "Vancouver has the largest cluster of top VFX and Animation studios in the WORLD, including Sony Pictures Imageworks, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), MPC, Double Negative, DHX Media, Animal Logic and Bardel Entertainment."
      ...and in terms of tech jobs, we are the second largest in Canada and 8th in North America and were the fastest growing from 2017 - 2022:
      www.biv.com/news/technology/vancouver-north-americas-fastest-growing-tech-job-market-cbre-8272605
      And...if you took the time to watch my videos, you'll recognize that my videos don't just "brag" about Vancouver. I make videos that discuss the positives as well as the negatives of the city.

    Why does your video have these incessant annoying flashes with the fake shutter sound ever 3-5 seconds? I don't even know what you're talking about because it is so unbelievably distracting that I can't focus on your actual content. Something about technology and film and I can't go on anymore.
