Sometimes this track can be a hard listen because it's constantly raising tension the whole time. There is no resolve. Which is understandable that some people are just not looking for that. But if your in the mood for 10 minutes of constant action packed chaos, this song is it.
The closest it gets to a Rest for me is the percussion solo section, then "I am the reason for your missing child" brings it all into the insanity again!
I live in rural Kentucky. I have a favorite bar. This song is on the jukebox. I play it once while I’m there. And once again as I leave. The bass intro is crawling by the time I start my car. Lol.
Word on the street is Juan Alderete recorded that opening bass line in one take, just jamming it out. He was also involved in a terrible bicycle accident and may never play like he used to. Prayers for that guy, he’s amazing.
Man, one of the best songs from TMV to me. It has that non stop energy all the way till the end with and excellent fusion, the bebop jazz sax, the latin feel bongos, the guitar and bass solos, just breathtaking. Great vids btw!
I'm a big fan of Horror Volta, which Day of the Baphomets seems to lean into. The tones and cryptic, often haunting poetry do a great job of implying there's something sinister just beneath (Bedlam in Goliath turned this subtext into text). And it does this all without really sounding like "horror" anything which is...mesmerizing to me
The percussionists/bongos are played by Omar's brother, Marcel. When he plays the bongos live, it is super intense! He is an amazing drummer in his own right and plays in several of Omar's solo albums but can also be found in the band he and his brothers had formed called Zechs Merquise (instrumental experimental rock jam band). He also played keyboard for Zechs before drumming, but then his younger brother Rico took over that part. Marcel also played keyboard for the later part of TMV and on stage and in some of Omar's solo projects as well. Currently Marcel has really been focusing on his solo project as Eureka The Butcher doing electronic music.
Best TMV song for sure. I never understood why many people found Amputechture so off-putting, for me it was love at first listen. Still my 2nd favourite MV album, right after Deloused.
Same. I think it’s easier to enjoy if you compose or produce. Listening to this on headphones is like an audio candy shop. I’ll never forget the day I sat down to listen to it when it came out. It’s not an album I often show to people, but despite Deloused being my favorite, I think this one is the most well rounded, song writing and production wise. The good ideas never stop on this record. Especially the guitar riffs.
Its so interesting to me how every Volta fan has a different list of favorites. For me, it goes something like: Frances Amputechture Noctourniquet The Mars Volta Bedlam in Goliath Deloused Octahedron Ive never understood the love for Deloused. It was a good debut album, but its the only album of theirs that is comparable to another. Frances. And i think Frances literally does everything Deloused does, but better.
@@dansourile5444 7 months later... yeah, im not sure anymore lol. I do think its a beautiful record though, and really underrated. I think Noctourniquet is definitely their most underrated though.
@@alibabaschultz352I just wish they released it under a different moniker. I don't hear TMV at all from that album. It's fine for what it is, but it's not them (to me). Octahedron as a "pop album" works. Self-titled does absolutely nothing for me on a prog rock level, which is why I'm left feeling empty. I go to TMV for challenging, complex, chaotic, yet beautiful music.
Indeed, Amputechture is hard to listen. Lots of repetitive riffs, tritones and a hell of a chaos unique in their discography. In my opinion it's one of their best albums, after FTM it was really logical to expect a even more complex and high organized album. Luckily they defied expectations and came with this madness that sort of reminds Magma and King Crimson. Unbelievable, Amputechture is one of a kind. Fun fact: Amputechture, a mix between Amputation and Architecture, symbolizes the band itself since it's in construction (architecture) and deconstruction (amputation).
Definitely one of their more challenging listens, but so many amazing parts sprinkled throughout it. Really hope you get to Deloused some time in the future!
amputechture is their best album idc what anyone says, the absolute chaos and energy of this album is unmatched, every song feels like 5 in one god i love this album and this band
The sheer density of ideas in this record is astonishing. No filler. It’s their most well rounded, both compositionally and production wise, for me. I only wish the drums weren’t so low in the mix.
@@RustinChole agreed that is the ONLY gripe i have of the album, a lot of the beats are completely drowned out which is sad because it’s some of Jons best work ever
Regarding the lyrics, I read somewhere that Cedric likes to convey a feeling through his lyrics rather than an exact meaning. Since I love to analyze lyrics, that lets me "experiment" with different meanings and stories for them in my mind. And yes, this song was hard to get into, but now it's one of my favorites from them!
Que genio! Arranque a ver tus video-clases! muy buenas! Saludos desde Jujuy, Argentina! Days of... es uno de los temas mas interesantes de The Mars Volta!
Although Amputechture is my least favorite out of their first 4 albums, it's still got some really good stuff, including of course this song. The best on the album imo.
Read the story of what Deloused is about. You won’t be able to stop yourself from diving in once you realize it’s a concept record about a dear friend of theirs who committed suicide. Each song is another chapter of this tragic poor guy, ending with his swan dive off an overpass into rush hour traffic. The album itself was unprecedented at the time, and still holds up. Probably the best debut album from a band ever.
The Baphomet isn't evil. It's a symbol of fertility, unity, and balance. Unfortunately it was adopted by the Knights Templar, and then Christianity labeled it as "evil" and "forbidden." I guess the image of a goat person with female human breasts bothers some people. It's just an image of an idea and concept, nothing more.
Been waiting for you to get to this song and just gets better with repeat listens. Must do this amazing band. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - I’m In Your Mind (medley) (Live on KEXP) Mars Volta hit a spot for you I remember. Same for me and it wasn't until KGATLW that I really found something else. They are super prolific with15 amazing and varieds albums over the last 10 years. 7 members, including 2 drummers and a large set of instruments used throughout.
You should definitely check out TMV's first album "Deloused in the Comatorium", it's amazing and still one of my favourites. I would also recommend "The Bedlam in Goliath" which is also amazing. Unfortunately, in my opinion they never did anything good again. Their first four albums are gold though.
After a nice long break, I would suggest a few tracks from Noctourniquet, their final release. At their final stages, they made a play at a more conventional record. "Conventional", as only TMV can do. Many fans want you to dive into the more acceptable albums, but I think the contrast would be welcome considering what you have heard from them thus far.
look up "a plague upon your hissing"... it's another version of this song (i guess the original version?) that is probably more your style, the end is really nice.
Thanks, I live in unceded Salish land, aka Vancouver Island, it's first nations design, based on events raising awareness of missing sisters, a terrible problem of native women missing and murdered, racism based. Persistent problem in Canada.
