- Corie and I traveled to Fontana Village in Graham County NC for me to cook for some folks. The event was a SEOPA (Southeastern Outdoor Press Association) Reunion. I was part of SEOPA for many years before it was absorbed into OJEFA (ojefa.org/). We had a great time! Hope you enjoy a peek into our stay at Fontana Village.

Tipper you are inspiring to so many people. Your genuine love for your life, family, your community, and God shine through everything you do. Your witness is lived out each day. That is so much more effective than folks who shout their supposed beliefs but don’t live them daily. Thank you for being wholesome and inspiring to me. Awesome video, brought back so many memories. My grandfather worked building the Fontana Dam, they lived in the B cove & my grandmother, mama, & aunts took in washing and ironing for the men working on the dam. Once the dam was finished they moved to Murphy. Great childhood memories. Thank you Tipper. You & your family are such a blessing. God bless & keep you!

Fontana Lake is so beautiful! We vacationed there many years ago with my husbands family. Lots of little ones in the group and they had a great time! I will never forget the beauty of the Lake and hills that surrounded us. It was so peaceful and cool in the valleys even in the middle of summer! Thank you for sharing your trip. 🌲🐿️🕊️
Wow Tipper you are a natural, thank God you wanted to celebrate some of Gods most beautiful mountains and rivers, and all things that means so much to so many people. Most of my family is gone from Clinchco alongside of the Mclure river, In Dickison County. that is near the Cumberland Gap. My Uncle Gary Turner still lives in Big Stone Gap. So now my family live in Michigan, there is a lot of beauty here, but I miss the mountains and rivers so bad. I'm the lady in the wheelchair that likes to follow you through your gardens the house and I swear I can smell your cooking sometimes. Well, I am going to get off here it is 11:00 my bedtime. Thank you ,Mrs .tipper ❤for this amazing wonderful visit ,it brought me & my husband wonderful memories along with tears ,April ann our young child and only daughter age 19 ( loved going to our annual yearly visits,)we would do white water rafting ,
We enjoyed taking our daughter everyplace we went for her to learn her heritage!
We still come every several years , but u😢😢🎉 we moved to Texas in 2009 , Its now home .

Tipper we took our boys to Fontana on one of our first trip To North Carolina about 35 years ago. What a beautiful place. This is when I fell in love with North Carolina and her wonderful people. It helped that my Papaw's family was from the area. He taught me so much about the culture his family was from. So I guess Appalachia part of my blood.
He is so funny! He sounds like my dad. My dad always said that he took a bath once a week whether he needed or not. Of course my dad’s job was really dirty so he had to bathe every night! He was a coal miner for 35 years

I just got my book last week and it's fantastic! I live in the Appalachians of WV and can remember my Granny and my Mom cooking my favorite childhood meals, I thought I'd never find some of those recipes again but, I was wrong, Tipper and Jim's cookbook has some of those recipes that i thought were lost to me forever! Thanks, Tipper and Jim!

This brings back fond memories from years ago (probably 40 or more!) when a clogging group I belonged to from Stratford, Ontario, Canada came every year for a clogging convention called "Possum Holler". They were amazing weekends of clogging with hundreds of new friends in the large hall and exploring the beautiful grounds. The drive in and out to the village was hair- raising but so exciting in a school bus.

So beautiful in that area! My Granddaddy worked in the CCCs in that area during the New Deal and took us up there as a family (Fontana Village back in the day). I love the reno. How Beautiful of a place, in my younger days my Father and Stepmother had a cabin in Murphy, they have since passed away. I sure do look back fondly on our time spent there. I love watching your channel and look forward to the new videos. And congratulations on the grand babies!!!

This was a wonderful video of western NC. I was born and raised in Stecoah. Graduated from the school before it was turned into the community center. Our family reunion each Labor Day weekend is held at the community center and we stayed in a cabin in Fontana. There is something about those mountains that will soothe the heart. Thank you so much I really enjoyed going back home again.

When I was a kid my daddy and his friends used to go to Fontana in the summertime to fish on the lake. I actually remember that all those decades ago! It's absolutely beautiful, and this video brought all of those memories rushing back to me. I love that gift shop too. I wish more places had lovely stores like that. Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us, and that food looks so delicious! I'm hungry now LOL!

There is a Fontana Lake in Oklahoma too. We were in the Army in OK.
I stayed at Fontana Village here in NC when I was only 5. ( That was 65 years ago.) It was just my parents and myself, and I rode a horse for the first time. Beautiful!

I enjoy all your videos, but this one in particular, was really special to me. Growing up in Florida, almost every summer vacation was spent in Fontana Village, I even remember fishing in Hazel Creek. I went back a couple times as an adult, but it had changed...the cafeteria had closed, no more clogging and square dancing. I'm in TN now, still love the area, but go to the Bryson City area. You and your family are truly blessed to live in those beautiful mountains.

I have fond memories wandering out to these areas from Clemson as a student and from greenville later on. Rafting, hiking, markets and driving the scenic routes! Beautiful places!!

Thank you, thank you for the trip to Fontana- a very important place in my family history. My grandfather worked there in the construction phase, my dad proposed to my Mom on a day's excursion, and many years later we had a couple of family reunions there! Also, the Hazel Creeek trip is fascinating, if anyone hasn't viewed it yet. Beautiful!

I spent many a summer on Fontana Lake with my Mamaw and Papaw on their houseboat. So much fun so many wonderful memories. My mother's family is buried on top of a hill at Almond . Right near the lake. Wonderful video.

Thanks so much for this video. In the 1960's my favorite aunt and her husband from Akron, Ohio, really got into square dancing - to the point where Aunt Anna had a whole room in her house for her square dancing outfits - and every year they would go to Fontana. I couldn't imagine what it was like there but now I know!
