This is great. I just bought a Drift after watching a review by Ragthenuts, it arrived this morning. Decided to go with a Matek F411 WSE, despite him having trouble fitting one, that should be here next Tuesday with luck. Already have a Phoenix 2 and a Runcam Hybrid 2. Then found this video. Perfect, apart from the TBS VTX it uses almost identical kit to mine, so nice to have my choices confirmed by someone with clearly a lot more experience than me. And to see how you fitted it, saving me a lot of time. I will be using a 2s 21700 li-ion pack and your tip re the esc will be useful, no point carrying the extra weight if I can't use the extra capacity to its fullest.
A roller coaster of emotions! Sorry for your loss. 😩 Great video though, thank you. Got a Drift on the way at the moment so some useful tips there.. Better luck with the next one. 👍
Giz: This was a stellar video. Your pace was definitely high speed for a beginner (like me), but your videography was fautless, your audio great, and your use of visual aides (still photos, screen captures for configuration, and your honest sharing of the results of your flight refreshing. We beginners need to know that even the experienced pilots have issues at every step. I loved your use of the tail cam, taking advantage of the 2 cam capability of the Matek 411 WSE flight controller. I'm subscribed to your channel after only this video! Thank! I hope you will add notes to the bottom of your video text with additional conclusions as you find them. Keep sharing. - Jim
Love your tutorials! Always thorough and enlightening. Bummer on loosing it to the Sea God, but impressed with them sending you a new one. Looking forward to the flights with the new one. Am currently waiting for my new Drift to arrive. Thanks for what you do for the hobby.
Same here, I need to finish mine as well, and then pray I can fly it. Planes are a lot trickier than quads. I think I am good if I can figure out how to launch it.
Those minutes flew by! what a great edit. I wonder what takes more time, building the plane or editing the video! ;) Thanks for sharing and good luck on the next build. Cheers
I am doing the exact same proyect! Just change vtx and camera hahaha. I mounted the T antenna same place but i am worried about landings with that setup
The disappearing OSD items could be occurring when they exceed an alarm setting, which is supposed to cause them to blink on/off. There is something with the Matek boards that fails to do this properly and instead they simply turn off. The fix is to “set display_force_sw_blink = ON”
@@gizfpv hi mate, I decided to get the dart 250g instead because of my budget and I've got it all setup with matek f411 wse and gps. It flies really nicely :)
What do the cli codes do? should i just copy paste w/o thinking? From my research the galileo is a EU gps system right? Im us so wouldnt that be useless? I already custamized RTH stuff so maybe the set max_angle_inclination_rll = 600 set max_angle_inclination_pit = 600 set small_angle = 180 set nav_fw_bank_angle = 35 would only be usefull for me?
Yes, tbh some of the codes I use are outdated now. For example, it used to be that Galileo could only be enabled via the CLI codes, whereas now it can be enabled directly in the GUI. The same is true for the codes related to RTH. You still want to set the max angle and small angles codes though
I have drift with Matek 411se. It flied well, in general (except at take off it's going nose down). At the last flight, over sea, I have lost power, EXACLY like you, it felt in the sea. Because I won't receive another one for free, I have recover it. For start, the flight controller if broken. Esc is OK. Split camera/vtx/GPS, idk yet. I suspect it can be a bug from INAV with this FC..
I'm about to start this same build. I have all the supplies and was going to install a runcam split up front but I quite like your setup even better. Did you ever get the new drift set up?
Thank you so much for your build tutorial! I‘m quite new to RC planes and FPV and I‘ve just tried to rebuilt the Drift you are presenting in your video. Unfortunately, I‘m not able to configure/activate my GPS on the FC. I‘m using INAV 5, a Matek 411WTE and a Beitian BN 220 GPS. When I configure the GPS on the Ports tab of INAV, it always stays on „disabled“ no matter what I do. The cabeling (UART 1; rx to tx and tx to rx) seems to be correct. The GPS TX LED is flickering blue when I turn it on. Do you have and suggestions?
My best guess would be that there's a conflict happening somewhere on Inav. Do you have MSP also enabled on the same UART that the GPS is connected too? Or is something else enabled on the same UART by mistake?
Great instructions! Originally I set mine up with the KOPILOT. Worked great. I really wanted OSD so I went with INAV and the Matek F11 WSE. Mechanically didn't change any servo linkages, but the model drops, it doesn't nose dive, but I have to pull the elevator stick back quite a bit. CG is right on the CG marks.. Any thoughts on how to correct this?
Id maybe think about mechanically adjusting the elevator servo linkage so that the elevator is up a little when the servo is at centre. Or failing that, just do a servo autotrim?
@GizFPV Any update on the ZOHD Drift project for 2021? Am curious what changes/improvements you plan to make? eg: since you preferred rear-view camera, will you choose higher quality camera/VTX. There are also a couple new(er) FC options. ;) BTW: Would love to see some Drift flights along that cliff and beach, looks to be epic scenery. :)
Not yet. I received the replacement from Zohd as promised, but it's still in its box waiting to be built. It is on my list of things to do and hopefully will get done in the Spring. Have got a few ideas for improving the build 2nd time around. Gonna try use much lighter parts, and will also see if I can get it sub 250g
