Nice video! So, I can stop riding the bicycle anywhere, put it on the stand, and continue filming my dog without pausing. Also, I placed the second Insta360 Ace Pro camera on the bicycle seat tube to film what is happening behind me. In this way, I can cover literally everything that happens around me while riding a bike, and thus watch all the runs of my dog around me, this way I get great shots suitable for slowing down. Hi Mitch, I advise you to use lens guards speaking from experience. And a metal cage if you ride bumpy tracks like I do with my gravelbike. Ik broke my X2 and scratched my One R :(
Nice helpful vid! We're going to start playing around with something similar for our bike rides. Do you leave the mic running for the whole trip to are you constantly turning the mic off and on along with both cameras off and on?
As long as the ride is less than 5 hrs, I turn on the mic and leave it running the entire time. Above that and I’ve found that the battery tends to run out (DJI Mic)
The “sharpness” setting is basically extreme micro contrast added to the pixels after capture. Bumping up “sharpness in the camera will not result in any extra detail, but it does create the illusion of detail. You can always add sharpness in later, but once it’s there, it’s difficult to remove and is considered “destructive” to the image. Because of that, you always want to add sharpness at the very end of your image processing. Hope that helps!

Hi Mitch, Thanks for the Insta360 videos. Quick question: May I ask what cell phone you used to first connect or pair the insta360 X3 camera? My Android Motorola G Pure G4 phone is not compatible with the insta360 app. Cant even install the app on my phone. Plus I don't have any friends that have any phones that work. Thanks for the pros and cons on these cameras. I also watched your X2 video. Take care
What mount combo are you using at 1:20? Looks like it's fixed to your seatpost rails and then a gopro 2 prong adapter to 1/4" adapter, but how crazy ratcheted down must your tension be to keep it from dipping?
Good eye! It's the GoPro seat clamp, and the Insta360 1/4" adaptor that came in the "Insta360 Bike Kit." The adapter is plastic and soft, so it allows me to clamp down super hard and keep the selfie stick in place. I didn't have any issues with the stick dropping, but the effort was pretty short. It might droop if it was on there for an extended period of time.
It seems you have managed to crop the silence, does the Insta360 App show an audio track to help you crop the silent moments? or did you have to watch all your footage to mark then crop?
You can do some editing in the Insta360 app, but I don’t know if it’ll automatically cut out the silent bit. I chopped it up in DaVinci Resolve, my normal editing app

Hi Mitch great video and confirmed for me that I should buy the X3, which I have done. Just checking did you use the clamp from the motorcycle bundle to attach the camera and stick in the forward to the side position? Great work on the climb! Andrew

What I saw in the link looks like what would clamp onto an handle bar and not a saddle rail, could you share a link to the exact adaptor that secures the stick & camera to the saddle rail?
Oh that one is a generic saddle rail camera mount I bought off Amazon. I wouldn’t recommend it for use with the selfie stick. It was extremely wobbly and the extended selfie stick puts a lot of stress on the saddle rails (which is probably a bad idea 😅) I used it once for that shot and never again. I'm going to Taiwan to attempt the mountain there. Was looking at this cam and some mounting options for my bike. I have an integrated handlebar and aero seat post. Would the motorbike clamp work for these since they are not round.
Definitely try it out beforehand. I have aero handlebars, that's why I mount the camera in the drops. Fir the seatpost, it really depends on how deep your seatpost is. Mine is a D-shaped seatpost, and it work just fine :)
@@MitchBoyer cheers mate. Video will be up on my channel end of march after my trip up Wu Ling Mountain. Hoping to do the mount on the drops like yours going uphill and on the seat post going downhill
@@MitchBoyer I have just tested it, it holds quite well even if you don't tighten it massively. Did you also attach this mount to the seat tube, it also seems to work well. Cheers from Germany
Liked the low light. No good for my cycle commute as I'll be wacking too many pedestrians with the selfi stick!🤣 Suppose I could mount the cam say 40cms vertically on my rear carrier to get enough footage around me? Umm, perhaps time to save the many pennies!👍🙂
How can you tell if you are in the shot when you mount it in front or behind you? Is there way to see the image on your phone before you start recording?
Because you can change the camera angle in post, you just kinda stick it in front of you and worry about camera angle later. (just make sure there's nothing between you and the camera to block the view 😅)
Hey Mitch hands down best insta360 review video quality looks amazing, question with your dji mic do you still use the dji storage device ad sync later or do you use the adaptor? it looks a bit clunky the adaptor attaching it to the 360. and can you sync the audio via the insta360 desktop afterwards? or is that a seperate program
I find myself syncing the audio afterward 90% of the time. I export the footage from the Insta360 desktop app and sync the footage and audio in DaVinci Resolve. The free version works perfectly, and syncs the footage with one click!
I had a generic action cam seat mount I bought off Amazon, but it didn't hold very well (the selfie stick pulled down over time). There's a dedicated seat post mount that I picked up later and it does a much better job. I think its literally called "Insta360 Seat Post Mount"
Thanks for watching! I'm definitely still a beginner with color grading for video. I edit in DaVinci Resolve and watch a lot Casey Faris and Color Grading Central.
It’s the Insta360 motorcycle kit with selfie stick. Heavier than some of their bicycle mounts, but it’s super sturdy so I think it’s worth it. Thanks for watching!
It was a generic GoPro mount from Amazon, but it slipped a lot so I stopped using it. I use the 3rd person mount now and it’s heavier, but much more secure.
Great video, question for you! I’ve noticed that when I’m using mine, the whole selfie stick and camera seem to drop (get closer to the ground) every time I hit a small bump no matter how tight I tighten the clamp. Do you have any suggestions? Does this happen to yours?
Do you record exclusively in 5.7K HDR in auto mode? On a recent ride using my X3, I shot in HDR and ended up with very grainy/pixelated videos in the lower lighted areas, and I'm not talking about late day. I'm talking shadowy areas during the middle of the day.
Yeah I do t really change it. A setting that might help you is turning down the image sharpness to the lowest setting. If the sharpness is turned on it will shaped any image noise and make it more noticeable. That was one of the things I didn’t love about the X2 but now that the X3 has that option I’ve found the image quality to be much better. Hope that helps!
@MitchBoyer Thanks for the quick reply! I'll try the low sharpness. Initially, I set it to medium. One more question. Do you use any lens guards? I applied sticky lens guards and applied the setting for it upon applying them. The guards have been on since first use. So, I can't compare before and after the application.
@@gnatman1102 I haven’t used the lens guards, so I’m not sure what the quality is like with them on. I did read there is a drop in image quality, though (that’s why I didn’t put them on)
Hi Mitch, love your vids, keep it up! I’ve been using the one x2 for quite a while and it’s been great mostly. Just one issue though, when you record in 360mode for a long time (30+ minutes) it splits the files into separate chunks, and you lose about a minute of footage between the files. Does the x3 still have the same problem? Thanks!
Thanks dude! Yeah, it still splits them into chunks. I had the camera on for an 1:20 minute ride and it was split into 3 videos with a bit of a gap between them. Hopefully they do a firmware update in the future that fixes it.
Wow, excellent review. In my opinion, the motorcycle mount offers a better view than third-Person bike handlebar mount. I'll purchase the motorcycle mount. Thx 😀
Mitch, I really like your videos! #authentic (as if that means much these days, but I'm 65yo, so I actually mean it). You mention a POV camera - I presume you don't use a 360deg camera for that (since it is wasting half the image.) What camera would you recommend for a chest POV video cam?
I appreciate that! The X3 has a single lens mode that works well (that’s what I use now), but if you want a dedicated single lens camera, I used to use my Insta360 GO2 for casual rides and the GoPro Hero 9 for rides where I wanted longer battery life. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching 🙌
Great review! Thank u! I been using oneX2 for a year now and always find the low light footages not so nice. Btw how do you mount the DJI receiver securely to the x3? I am always worried the receiver will drop while cycling...
Thanks for watching! I got a quick release adaptor that screws into the top of the selfie stick and bottom of the X3 and mounted the DJI receiver on it. You can kinda see it if you pause the video at 8:27. I believe its called "Invisible Mic Cold Shoe (for RØDE Wireless GO)" On the Insta360 website. I was also afraid of dropping the receiver so i taped the back of it to the could shoe mount with gaffer tape.

Definitely try it out beforehand. I have aero handlebars, that's why I mount the camera in the drops. Fir the seatpost, it really depends on how deep your seatpost is. Mine is a D-shaped seatpost, and it work just fine :)
@@MitchBoyer my seat post is D shaped as well about 45mm maybe. It's a factor ostro. Looking for you advice so I know what mount to huy
@@DonCarlyon Yeah dude give the motorcyle mount a try. It's the most versatile of the moutns in my opinion. Let me know how it goes!
@@MitchBoyer cheers mate. Video will be up on my channel end of march after my trip up Wu Ling Mountain. Hoping to do the mount on the drops like yours going uphill and on the seat post going downhill
what kind of mount did you put on your seatpost?
Hi Mitch, how tight did you tighten the bike mount on the handlebar? I have just ordered one. I also have a carbon handlebar
Just tight enough so it doesn't slip. Because of the bar tape, I find it doesn't need to be extremely tight.
@@MitchBoyer I have just tested it, it holds quite well even if you don't tighten it massively. Did you also attach this mount to the seat tube, it also seems to work well. Cheers from Germany
@@AM-fu9be yep! I used the same mount in my “Steepest Race in the USA” video on the seatpost. Worked well
Do you use the insta360 x3 lens protector? If so, what do you think?
what size stick do you recommend to work well with Bike Tail Mount Kit?
Hey Mitch! What attachment is that mounted to the back of your saddle to the insta360 stick?
I had a generic action cam seat mount I bought off Amazon, but it didn't hold very well (the selfie stick pulled down over time). There's a dedicated seat post mount that I picked up later and it does a much better job. I think its literally called "Insta360 Seat Post Mount"
Any suggestions for a starting point to learning color grading? And great overview of the new X3. Looking forward to more vids!!!
Thanks for watching! I'm definitely still a beginner with color grading for video. I edit in DaVinci Resolve and watch a lot Casey Faris and Color Grading Central.
Do you worry about damaging the carbon bars by clamping?
Good video and good review, one question, do all the elements that hold the camera on the handlebar come in the bicycle kit? Thanks.
It’s the Insta360 motorcycle kit with selfie stick. Heavier than some of their bicycle mounts, but it’s super sturdy so I think it’s worth it. Thanks for watching!
what mount did you use for the rails? it doesn't look like their "3D Bike" perspective one
It was a generic GoPro mount from Amazon, but it slipped a lot so I stopped using it. I use the 3rd person mount now and it’s heavier, but much more secure.
Congrats on KOM.
Great video, question for you! I’ve noticed that when I’m using mine, the whole selfie stick and camera seem to drop (get closer to the ground) every time I hit a small bump no matter how tight I tighten the clamp. Do you have any suggestions? Does this happen to yours?
Pulled the trigger mitch thanks cant wait to get the x3 my 1st 360! Will be using it for cycling vlogs too 😊
Awesome! Excited to see what you make 🙌
@@MitchBoyer great work and content mate keep it up very inspiring and awesome PB’s too!! 🙏🙏🙏
What capacity SD card do you use? Do you use any lens protection?
I did read there is a drop in image quality, though (that’s why I didn’t put them on)
@MitchBoyer Yeah! I have a 2-year protection package for the camera. So, I may just yank them off. Thanks for the reply!
Thx 😀
How did you mount it under your saddle?
How's the rear mount for recording riding buddies behind you?
I haven't tired it yet--it's worth a shot!
Great video 🤠🤠🤠
What are you using to held tihgt your camera? Ive never seen a mount like yours
It’s the Insta360 Motorcycle Mount. There’s a link in description of you wanna pick one up ✌️
Mitch, I really like your videos!
I have qwestion !? Is true that any time you can see 360 degrees of your video when you film ?
@@MitchBoyer yes its the ulanzi pt-20 cold shoe for rode n i'm using it too. I use a black maskin tape to tape it to oneX2 for security. Good to know it wont drop off from your video :) i may try it out soon!
@@trishalim Good luck, yeah it felt a little flimsy so i taped it down a couple of times. Seemed to hold up!
@@MitchBoyer 💝 thank u 😊
Btwn Insta360 Ace/Ace Pro & X3, which has the Better low/medium night light response/footage? Only light coming from street lights/car lights
With the stick, this is the biggest camera ever!
Is there build in Gps or must used insta remote control thanks 🙏
I don’t believe there is GPS, but you should double check on their site :)
What clear glasses are those?
I don’t recall, sorry. Just a cheap pair I found on Amazon. Did the job for a only few months before snapping so I don’t know if I can recommend them anyway 😬
@@MitchBoyer No worries! Appreciate the response! Was looking for a non-photochromatic clear pair that looks kind of like those so was just wondering!
Awesome vid!!!😀
Glad you liked it!!
what parts do you use for the handlebar shots. Meaning clams and such?
It's the Insta360 Motorcycle Mount Bundle with Selfie Stick (not the U-Mount). It's a bit heavy, but super solid.
