    I have had a few apprentices over the years, you want to hold onto him his attitude is spot on he wants to be there and learn from you. You will do well in the future with him.

    As I've said before, you're the kind of electrician that can be trusted to do a professional job, not the "it's under the floorboards - nobody will see it" approach as happens a lot with some trades. Adam is a great guy - he's lucky to have you and you're lucky to have him.

    It’s nice to see that you show the process needed to get to the light fittings via floor board removal and watching how it’s achieved. Also for some viewers they get to see the ceiling from above and see the Lath and Plaster that’s is still common place in many older houses. as most you tubers don’t show this part as they think it to be boring, yet I like to see how different people tackle that situation as not all houses are the same. Keep up the good work and Adam seems to have a great work ethic which is rare to find these days👍

    Hi Nick,
    I enjoy your video's keep them coming. As an old spark from the 60's I use rip out loads of that old lead cable from the 30's it was old then, they used to run in metal star boxes clamped around the lead sheathed that was the earth occasionally if it wasn't a full rewire we would use 14swg copper wire to maintain earth continuity, but I thought all that lead was gone decades ago. Keep up the good work nice to reminisce old times.
    Peter.

    That cable is lead covered rubber insulated wire. It was made in the 1930s, and is well past the end of its life. It predates VIR cable which is also well past the end of its life.

      I have recently been told that my wiring is tinned copper building dates from 1964, just wondering why they did that.

    • @Ragnar8504
      @Ragnar8504 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nw5835 Out of habit probably. Rubber (as in the old VIR cables) is vulcanised using sulphur and that'd eat up the copper if it wasn't tinned. I suppose they didn't quite trust PVC in the early days so they just kept tinning the cores.
      I'm fairly sure this isn't lead though - it's green in spots, which points to copper, i.e. MICC (pyro).

    that old cable looks like piro
    Mineral-insulated copper-clad cable is a variety of electrical cable made from copper conductors inside a copper sheath, insulated by inorganic magnesium oxide powder. The name is often abbreviated to MICC or MI cable, and colloquially known as pyro (because the original manufacturer and vendor for this product in the UK was a company called Pyrotenax). A similar product sheathed with metals other than copper is called mineral insulated metal sheathed (MIMS) cable.

    When you was wondering about wether you should do another time lapse, I certainly wouldn’t mind, because I may have missed one video, but also, you may do something different the next time, or high light a tip that you hadn’t previously. Yes if you keep showing the same type jobs all the time people may lose interest but for me, it’s good to go over things that may have been covered before again, once in a while.

And if it isn't right for you or you can't hack the exams stuff then your vids are massively encouraging to our kids, taking away the idea that "everything's buggered because I can't go to uni". I look at the work you do and can only imagine the pride you and Adam feel. Everything is to regulations and everything is installed with pride. And who knew being a sparks involved so much creativity? Great vids. I enjoy them so much (I've worked in IT in offices all my life) I've stopped watching Netflix of an evening preferring to see how you and Adam have got on with your projects. Most properties have been either wired by a DIY’er or some 10 week sparks. When you step into the industrial sphere. Our regulations and standards I would say are so much better than the NEC. I work for an American company where our packages are of US standard. Most of which have to be modified to conform to BS standards by using a certificate of conformity.
