  • This is a solo run of the duo version of "Sagroth, Lair of Vermin". It is part of "The Return to Carn Dûm Instance Cluster". I'm running the solo version of the instance with my L143 red line Captain. The instance is also set to level 141 for account bound gear drops.
The discovery for this cluster of instances is called "Discovery: Carn Dûm" and is completed by swift travelling from the Esteldin (or Rivendell stable) to Bail Avarc.
Note: The solo/duo version of the instance resets chest rewards daily. Also, the minimum level requirement (after discovery) is level 140.
I've seen the instance (at 2-player/duo level) drop boots, chest & shield gear. The dropped gear is "bound to account so after the initial 1 hour cooldown period it can be transferred to another of your characters or placed into storage for future use by one of your alts.
The main reason for running it solo is to get the "on instance level" equipment drops that can occur from both the boss chests. The ilevel for these drops are basically the same at either level 140 or 141 (ie. ilevel 480 purple gear). Consequently you may as well run it at the easier level 140 if you are looking for account bound gear.
The chests solo/duo instance runs are locked to only open once per day (based on server time for solo/duo instances). This can be checked in the raid locks section of the social panel or by typing "/raid locks" in the general chat command line.
In some other 2-player instances your Tier 1+ duo (2-player) instances act similarly to raid chests (ie. they have 4-5 favourable drops per week) before the boss chest drops down to only slightly useful chest rewards.
Equipment drops throughout the game can be relatively difficult to obtain even after having run all the quests in many of the expansions lower level zones. Consequently it can be difficult to run some landscape content when your gear has not progressed fast enough to effectively compete. Running the duo versions of some of the games "solo-able" instances is a viable method to obtain "good enough" equipment to complete in most high level questing zone content.
If you are just looking to improve your gear to play the higher level quest content, you can try looking in the auction house for near on-level equipment. The auction house equipment (Bind on Equip) is likely to have an ilevel lower than the possible solo instance equipment (account bound equipment) that drops from this instance (but it is easier to find).
While getting solo crafting characters to the point where they can actually make the new green/uncommon level 141 Umbar equipment (ilevel 503) is difficult for new players. However, it is slightly better than the gear that now drops from soloed instances at the same level (ie. level 141 drops ilevel 480 purple gear). Running duo instances that drop gear at a fair rate is a good alternative to crafting gear...
