REZA ASLAN: UNDERSTANDING GOD

  • Who is God? According to Reza Aslan, our desire to humanize God is hardwired in our brains, making it a central feature of nearly every religious tradition. Regardless of our actions or beliefs, Aslan says the majority of us consider God to be a divine version of ourselves. We bestow upon God not just all that is good in human nature but also our greed, bigotry and violence. All these qualities are reflected in our religion, culture and government. Whether you believe in one God, many gods or no God at all, Aslan’s work will challenge the way you think about the role of the divine in our everyday lives.

I've heard is thoughts on the burial subject to make the point he made, but I believe fundamentally that burial is a way for people to feel like living had some meaning and that people cared about them. If we just rolled people off the top of a cliff after, we would feel pretty crappy about what's coming..you get the point.

I wonder in one thing: If your study shows that it's cognitive in human being of believing on after life which were found in the burial chambers since history, how can you then deny heaven or hell concept? As that's what after life is all about (as per most religious description)

Religion has its origin and takes shape upon the answer to this question:
Everyone seems to die, I will die one day. After I die, will my thoughts die with me?
    You are welcome.
Here's the proof: when your children ask about where did grandpa go after he died, your answer is a benign one.
Religion is supposed to be benign to ourselves and harsh on our enemies. So that it takes on a darker role.

I have to disagree with Reza when he claimed Abraham was not a monotheist. Abraham was most definitely a monotheist, and the example Reza gives for believing otherwise, I believe, is a figure of speech (i.e. "Thou shall have no other god before me."). Again, in my humble opinion, this expression does not mean that Abraham (himself) believed their to be other Gods worthy of worship.

    Reza, Salom.
I think that the "separation of body and mind" (and yes, since time immemorial, yet not required by biology it would seem to me, or perhaps already acquired in our genes or dna somehow) comes from an irreconcilable realization at some point each one makes when we reach a certain degree of philosophical maturing (mind you that it must have its own track compared to other levels of maturing, lol)
It is not until after our first serious "out of home" heartbreaks of incensed illogical betrayal or injustice, starting before hand very modestly when dad says "no because I said so, so shut up about it already", and it becomes our best friend cheating us out of something we never though he would, your puppy being stolen out of your car, the death of who to you are angelical people in your life, the torture of people and children you become aware of as you go into adulthood, and worse still from that point on; that you realize the world our logically acting reason and its "body" ends up building and running, errs, harms, hurts and kills others who are our same kind, the same as us. Thus occurs that it, ( body's logical reasoning, ) can never reconcile sensibly within our minds our own pure and subconscious esoteric yet real sense of survival for the species, or, the glue of love thriving collective intuition (soul). This heartbreaking debunking confrontation of nearly opposites, or enemies some suggest even as lie and truth would be enemies, naturally seems aberrant and wrong at some level forcing or making us ask the question "Why!!?". Why must have an answer. And "Why" cannot be abandoned because we must exist as a collective single species. ... And so starts Belief, and Faith towards an explicative purpose, and the ensuing explanation to restore harmonious sense and reason, which we can't live without, humanity might attest. A belief and faith that aims at ending the hypocrisy of self harming and the impossibility of self destruction. Enter nameless untouchable god, of all answers unknown, which of course he (male leaders of society) will explain. That's where the mess starts. For his reason is our tendency to understand and answer what makes no sense, so there's a want to own him or recruit him to be on our side, yet we called him forth because there was a void, so he can't actually be there in physical form, though he must... ... Starting to echo some things? ... Or is he? : -) This leads directly to the real explanation, to whatever degree we can reach a logical explanation, of the Divine Trinity. The paradigm or paradox I just tried to explain has to do with understanding how more than one thing would be true in the understanding of the Divine Trinity.
I myself went to Teheran High friend, Cheh tah ree?? ... Beverly Hills High ;)

This man, Reza, reminds me of Pope who accepts all universal gods. Basically feel good doctrine, sound like a spiritual message. Many don’t want to hear God’s wrath…only feel good message. I rather listen to compelling story of Mosef Yousef (Son of Hamas) who found Christ during his capture from Israeli intellengce. He didn’t get top on the book lists but he was telling the absolute truth about who Hamas really is and how Jesus is absolute truth. How people need to not blame Israel. Reza is doing this for the fame and money. I hope you all thoroughly research all his books and his countless story to discredit Christ. I do give him credit on some historic facts. Jesus gives warning signs who are the wolf in sheep…Matthew 24:11. I’d rather invite Mosef Yousef than this Man, Reza who stir up God’s people. Jesus said he’s the only way…and eternal life…John 14:6/3:16…❤️🙏🏽😱

At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Outstanding oratory skills! However, Reda's interpretation of religion as indiviidual conception is pure atheism (no god) but human imagination. The advice to reject the concept of heaven and hell is far from Islam. Saying Abraham and Moise worship two different Gods is also unacceptable!
All the messengers brought the unique God's message.

Dear Reza Aslan, as you are a scholar of religions, i request you to consider following two facts:
    1. When you say some verses are peace promoters and some are violent, that doesn’t make sense to me because verse is nothing but a sentence which comes in a book, in its chapter and even in a particular paragraph. We have to give comment on the basis of whole knowledge or message that we get after reading the book like no single sentence in any book can b quoted out of context. Talking of Quran, there are 114 chapters which means Quran is not a collection of verses but a book comprises of a those many chapters and each chapter has verses in context like the most misunderstood verse “ kill them wherever you find them” has its context which says that a peace treaty was broken by those who are being asked to fight with and they are being given time of few months to come back to the treaty and if they Re not coming back to peace treaty than kill and subject goes on to escort and bring them to the safe places who are non combatant and give them message . To know more about the context of verses please get familiar with the work of Almawrid institue.
    2. In islam concept of God is crystal clear that he is one and only and his 99 characteristics which have been mentioned are never confusing. As we know, we share love and many characteristics with other animals but we know we are different than other animals and even the machines we create have our characteristics like intelligence etc.
when we talk about God, we believe those characteristics of love, compassion an other all are in extreme level with God and human have them with limits. Sharing characteristics doesn’t make you the same like robots share our characteristics but still we are not confused between robots and us human . Thank You

No, faith is not an emotion, but an absolute conviction. For a Christian must give up all right to self-defense by becoming a pacifist and must suffer the misery of the working poor by giving away all wealth to the poor. Two absolute miseries that could never be endured except by absolute conviction, that which we call faith.

Faith is an absolute blind conviction, which is not based on reason and logic. So faith derives from emotions, not logic and reason.

Say that to Allah EMC. Pick someone your size. I'm muslim and i love Christians. The Quran is not blind (faith or belief) and we love Jesus and he was virgin like his mother. We and Christians disagree anout things but they are the nearest to us. Allah doesnt allow you to go any further. Read the Quran for some resistance, Christianity is full of love. If you want trouble.

This is one man's opinion..... not facts at all, his opinion. FIRST of all, he is MUSLIM, and a great public speaker.... He has mentioned in the ASPEN talk ( 50 people in the audience?) that every Jesus gets mentioned on FOX he sells more books.... He said to be glib.... of course he doesn't mind being glib because he doesn't mind making a living on writing his perspectives on Jesus.

No, Moses was not an Egyptian, as all Hebrews descended from Abraham who came from
Ur of Chaldeans. No, Christ was not a God, for throughout the New Testament he is called "God the Son." Yes, the devil is throughout the Hebrew Old Testament, see Genesis 3:1

    • @lunarious87
      @lunarious87 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't know where the word 'devil' comes from. The devil is Satan, or the organisation of devils (plural). The serpant like ... fights lions and tigers etc by suffocating them, or by poison yet it wold not fight for glory. It is cold blooded (cold and calculated). It is the enemy, because iit is cold yet fighting, a devious combination.

The knowledge of God should only come from God and the creation of religion should only come from God. If anyone started a religion without seeing and speaking to God then the religion is man made and pointless.
