Me, my wife and my daughter went there, and our scheduled stay in Orlando ended just before everything went haywire with Helene's impending approach. Talk about luck! Anyway we got to be in the front row to the far right. My wife just fell in love with the kitsch. She had the grilled chicken citrus salad. My daughter (a vegetarian) got the flying saucer Impossible Burger. I convinced her to try it with the portabello mushroom. She loved it. Yeah, her Dad loves mushrooms too! I just stuck with the classic American burger. We saw clips from _Plan 9 From Outer Space_ and _The Amazing Colossal Man_ as well as other clips. My daughter came in sporting a bit of a mood (typical 15 year old), so I started doing the typical _MST3K_ style riffing which got her laughing and in a much better mood by the time the food came. Super Dad to the rescue!!
Well, that was good timing. I was there just a week or so before Helene myself. And I had the impossible nachos. I'm not a vegetarian, but I do try to limit myself to meat only once a day. The nachos were so good, I could barely tell they were of the impossible variety.

Late 90's early 20's as I recall. Based the decor on ST:TNG / DS9 but still maintained the classic. The bar section was called Quarks, and an indoor ride, of course you'd end up in the gift shop. The wait staff were dressed in "alien" costumes. It was a blast. Sadly, upon my next visit it had closed.@@AtomicSnackBar
@ AtomicSnackBar - Interesting. I grew up with the OS so that's a given. But my second favorite would have to be ST: Enterprise. Particularly Season 2. I've always enjoyed Scott Bakula as a screen personality. And he's supposedly a really nice guy.
That’s my kind of place. I’ve been to two 50’s themed restaurants in the 90’s. Actually, it was one because I visited the place in another town and it then moved to the town I lived in when I was in junior college. It had a nice atmosphere, complete with telephones at every table and booth so you can talk to anyone in the place. A big jukebox playing the oldies and an electric train running around the entire length of the dining area above the booths. Fun times. There needs to be a sci-fi themed restaurant everywhere. “The drive-in will never die.”-Joe Bob Briggs 😎✌️👍
There was, and possibly still is, a 1950s bar-b-que place in my hometown. Not only was the food great, it was never super crowded, and I just loved the atmosphere. The little jukeboxes on each table were full of great '50s songs. They eventually opened a newer, nicer, non-themed one that was closer to home, but I still wanted to go the '50s style one.
@ I remember a diner I used to go to after work in the 80’s. Sometimes coworkers went there with me. This place had mini jukeboxes at every booth. Some weekends it was crowded. The diner had been expanded to accommodate the crowd. It was even open on Thanksgiving Day. I had fun times and great late suppers there. It was a great place to be alone because of the atmosphere. It gave me a place to really think and listen to the music from the mini jukeboxes at the booths. .
Yeah, I’d love to go there 😍✌️ war of the worlds with an out of this world burger.. My friend owned a place called the cinema grill. Basically a restaurant with a movie theater built in. Covid unfortunately put it out of business.
@ bluntone2273 - Back in the late 90s-early 2000s there were a couple of those Cinema cafe places that ran second run features after they had finished the bigger chains. This was in West Palm Beach, Florida. Some movie theaters had upper level dining area options in the mid-2000s, but unless you were on a date, they were quite a bit pricier. I live in a small NEastern town now and RARELY go to the movies anymore. Like never.
I'd find this more fun than Disney World or Epcot...is Epcot still there? Is anything still there after hurricane Milton? Doesn't matter as long as we have R Sterling Comody bringing us the latest retro stuff.
Epcot is indeed still there, at least, it was last month during my most recent visit. I'm not sure how bad it got hit by Milton, but I'm thinking not very badly.
Wow! You bring up something I’ve never thought about before. Disney never made a sci-fi did they? “Escape from Witch Mountain”. “Cat from Outer Space”. What would Walt have done with Heinlein’s young adult phase of material like “Farmer in the Sky”? Their sci-fi stuck strictly to the Earth. Not even a cartoon sci-fi. Incredibles and Buzz and that one that flopped could pass for sci-fi, but no real space fantasy. If they acquired George Lucas’ stuff, why couldn’t they get rights to Heinlein, E. E. Doc Smith or Burroughs’ Mars work. Then again maybe now’s not the time. To think that with all his imagination Walt never made an original outer space adventure for kids?!? Well, I guess Irwin Allen beat him to it with “Lost in Space”. Hanna-Barbera beat him with “Space Ghost” and “Herculoids”.
@ kallianublico7517 - Although it's certainly Post-Walt, I'm sure that you're aware of The Black Hole. Maximillian got a lot of robot love for the SnackBar patrons last week. Fantasy classics like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea were closer to his heart and although H.G.Wells would be considered 'classic', I'm not aware of Walt being particularly fond of the Sci-fi genre. Good catch.
@@tonysantiago255 I forgot about “Black Hole”, but I was more thinking about a series. Like a Davy Crockett in Outer Space. Of course they could do something like that with a “young adventures of Princess Leia” or Luke. Though I don’t know if they possess the suitable, family friendly sci-fi plot lines, and narrative sophistication. Come to think of it that “Escape to Witch Mountain” was about alien kids. They could retcon a whole series based on them.
@@kallianpublico7517 More films come to mind. Tron. Flight of the Navigator. And much later, the underrated John Carter. But sci-fi under Walt's watch? Notta. Though park wise, the entire concept of EPCOT is about as sci-fi as you can get. And of course, Tomorrow Land.
@@AtomicSnackBar I still remember seeing those bus billboards for John Carter and having no idea that this was Mr. Burroughs’ John Carter. Even though “A Princess of Mars” was the very first actual novel I read when I was 11 - 13? Really good … and yes Disneyesque.. movie. A lot of killing of the murderous “natives” …but they were all cgi cartoons. Good recall “my Jeddak”!

Cheers Warren, who sure misses the Space Age! p.s., do they show feature films? Creature features?
No full features any of the times I've gone, but it's possible they have before. It's already tough to get me to leave that place. If they did full movies, I might just move in. Sci-fi squatter's rights.

@@AtomicSnackBar It's called Famous Monster Pizza. They used to have pics of the interior on their site, but I couldn't find any, just now. Just one of the exterior.
If atomic-age science could somehow extract the purest distilled essence of ‘50s sci-fi & retro-futurism and somehow solidify it into lumber and paint, i think this place would be the result. I've never seen you sans glasses! Kinda lowers the coolness factor, but don't worry, you've got plenty to spare. Chandu.
I shot this during my recent excursion from the Snack Bar. And funnily enough, there has been talk of Mr. Hands visiting, and this is one of the main places I would like to take him. Of course I’m wondering if out the back there they’ve got a garden stocked full of plants all grown from Oakridge Atomic Industries Super Atomic Energised Seeds. I sure hope so.

My innate knee-jerk snap judgement has very little to say about this. I hope the place has as much business as it takes to keep them open and happy. The back of my mind wants a greater variety of car bodies but who’s gonna pay for that? AMAZING! My people!
Unless the park just decides it wants to replace it with something else, I think it'll be around for a good long while. It's always crowded, and you generally need a reservation.
I have found my holy land, Thank you mister Sterling for introducing me to this truly divine destination that I must go to otherwise my quest to be the biggest retro sci fi nerd in the california bay area to be truly compete, Thank You.

Sounds pretty spiffy as well.
@@AtomicSnackBar Awww, crap, I didn't even look at the appetizer menu! I love nachos, and would LOVE to have had the Impossible nachos! I also try to limit meat (at least beef and pork) as much as I can. I stick to chicken, turkey, and fish. My wife and I also do lots of creative things with beans. She can't eat beef anymore because ever since she got COVID it tastes like iron and vomit.

Extremely so. The first time I went I hung around in there for about an hour. Well after my food was finished.

Well worth a little adventure that way.
“The drive-in will never die.”-Joe Bob Briggs
😎✌️👍
Oh, that's a real shame. Sounds like it was a really neat place. What kind of movies did they show?
@@AtomicSnackBar same stuff that was In normal theaters. They did special movies on holidays too. Die hard around Christmas…🙄😂
Like never.

@@tonysantiago255 That's funny. I didn't even catch that. But my mind's not in the gutter ... toilet, like yours.
@ AtomicSnackBar - Whooooooosh!
