Nice breakdown of Strat-O-Matic Baseball. I agree with everything you say in your closing remarks. The game is a great representation of baseball. The basic mechanics are easy to learn, and you can add as many (or as few) of the more advanced rules as you see fit to really customize the complexity/realism. But the components are on the cheap side.
Good video. The only disagreement I have is with Statis Pro baseballs pitcher ratings. A dominant pitcher should have the results come off his card more instead of the batter. In Stratomatic baseball it's always a 50/50 chance. You could have the best pitcher in the league be ineffective because your opponent rolls too many 1 to 3's on the white die. In SPB a 2-8 or 2-9 pitcher will have a higher percentage off his card because....he's a dominant pitcher. On a side note, I just downloaded a game called Payoff Pitch. I like the way it uses both the pitching card and batters card on every roll, I like this better than both Strat and SPB. I have only played one game of it and there are a few quirky things (advancing baserunners, error frequency to name a few) that I'm still trying to work out. A one game sample base is hard to give it any real thumbs up or thumbs down. I can give it a thumbs up on using both the pitcher and batter card on every at bat. If you haven't tried it, i suggest you watch a YT video showing the game and how it works. It's only 6 bucks to download the rules, charts, 8 teams (different eras and the parks they played in), FAC cards (you can also use dice if you prefer). You can also buy the game outright (I forget how much it is) so you don't have to bother printing everything out.
A player does not have to play a defensive position that he's not rated at to be a 5 fielder. Many cards have players who are rated 5 at certain positions they played during the season.
I almost laughed out loud when you mentioned how bland APBA was. I could not agree more. I mistakenly bought it played it a few times and now it collects dust. David
APBA was my first baseball game. And it WAS the best. But as I tried Statis - Pro , which had a little more reality / coaching ; I liked that. Stratomatic tops them all . It has many more decision making situations than the others. It is about as statistically accurate as you will find with these games. Even if they replayed the real games. the numbers wouldn't match. But it is close. You have to make almost constant decisions, on offense or D. Some games the extent of defensive managing is changing the pitcher,. Or playing the infiled in. Stratomatic goes a step further.

Love the dice and cards game. Don't go for digital and I've been a programmer for 40+ years!

I'm a Reds fan. You're welcome for Aroldis! Of course, he's already gone, LOL!

Excellent video. Thanks for taking the time.
Go Braves 😕
Have you played box seat or ballpark baseball? If so, could you let me know what you think about them?
If you ever get the chance play Inside Pitch.
Your playing your game on the basic side the flip side is for advanced play left right splits and so on. Played this game for years.
I actually do point out we're only looking at the basic game in the video.
Okay sorry
