    More of Nathan, please Fender! 3:10 is one of the best review techniques. The same riff, but played different ways so you can hear how the instrument responds.

    Thank you so much for not saying a short scale bass is for beginners/kids/people with small hands/guitarists.

      The tone of a short scale bass is very distinct. I was trying to get the sound for Money City Maniacs by Sloan for too long before realizing it's a Mustang with flats. I'm a happy camper now.

    i’ve had this bass for about 3 years. i love it, but i do have some remarks
    1. know a damn good luthier. this is a MIM model so don’t expect it to come set up to spec.
    2. get rid of their god awful bridge pickup. replace it with anything. SD. EMG. Fender. anything. replace the horrible thing bridge pickup and hopefully your luthier is willing to do this for you.
    3. if you really love this bass like i do and you’re wanting to get the most out of it, tget rid of the crappy 3 way toggle switch and have your luthier (or yourself) turn it into some kind of tone knob.
    i had my luthier change the wiring into a J-bass setup with two tone knobs and one master volume (the former 3 way switch now acts as the neck’s volume knob)
    this is now my favorite bass. all of the quirks of a mustang bass with none of the downsides. still as versatile as a jazz bass and sits in the mix like a p-bass, but has that interesting short scale quality.
    i love this bass but had to do a few things to get the most out of it

      I get what you're saying but I typically play a Jazz Bass and when I pick up a shorty, within a few minutes I adapt and I'm playing without eyes on neck, as usual. Incidentally, I picked up one of these last year and it's a fun little player. I may pass it to one of my Grandkids.

    • @pozzarefds
      @pozzarefds 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The neck width is really not that different to say a Jazz Bass. Its just the length that's different.

  • @room34
    @room34 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I recently bought one of these (same color and everything) despite my misgivings after some flawed MIM Fenders I'd dealt with in the past, but I am really happy with this one. Sounds and plays great, and the build quality is right on. I swapped in a hi-mass bridge and put a LOT of mineral oil on the fretboard, but other than that it is excellent. I'm mostly playing this now instead of my American Professional P-Bass because I like the smaller scale and the sonic versatility of the PJ pickup configuration.

    The Mustang bass won in my sound test of 3 guitars:
    Sire V5 short scale
    Hofner
    Mustang Player PJ Bass
    Sire came last. I loved the Hofner Ignition and think it’s superb for the price. But Mustang stood out on playability and super great tone.

    Hey bass players. I just wonder what's most common , are most bass players starting to play guitars, or do they go straight to the bass? Just curious here. Cliff Burton could treat his bass like a guitar for example. Well, as you understand, I'm not a musician myself, unfortunately. But thinking about picking up a bass, and try to learn some basics.

    • @ImJwak
      @ImJwak 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i started out on bass. it will help if you have musical knowledge before hand but it’s definitely not necessary you just have to try and find the thing you like hearing most in music. keyboards and pianos are always a great place to start and can usually get quite a wide range of sounds and instruments so you can noodle about and find what you really like while still learning

    • @danadrian2752
      @danadrian2752 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it’s the same way some people want to play violin and others want to play an upright bass, some people want to play trumpet and others Tuba. I wanted to play bass first and my parents got me a guitar because they didn’t know the difference. I learned bass lines on it, of course the lines didn’t sound nearly as massive as they would on a bass but it worked for practicing I guess, and then one day I eventually bought my own bass. I couldn’t gel with guitar. I’ve known many people that started with bass or they started on one instrument and realized they wanted to play something else for various reasons, there’s really no way to know until you try.

      They came out with the dimension bass, in a series that was literally called "modern player", and they had to discontinue it because the p/j players turned their noses up at it without giving it a fair shake...I picked one up for $300, had Seymour Duncan custom shop make me a 21.4k output humbucker for it, and it blows Musicman out of the f-in' water
