Just saying: CR does the best strategy of ending conflict by removing the ability of the threat Counterspell - maaaaaany times; most notably Scanlan vs Vecna Polymorph - *insert Will Smith presenting meme here* Feeblemind - Keyleth vs Raishan
Step 1 Polymorph. Step 2 hand the now near harmless creature to the best thrower in the party. Step 3 throw it over a cliff like the one Keyleith jumped from and wait for the splat.
Its not that Polymorph is a powerful spell Its not even that two casters in the party have that spell its that Matt doesn't fudged his dice for the purposes of an epic encounter Because that led to the whole table laughing their ass off And I think at the end of the day, that's the important of a dnd session
*MINOR SPOILER FOR EPISODE 120* So I'm guessing because of stuff like this is why Ep 120's encounter and assuming that future major enemies will have True Shape/can't be polymorphed.
For weather below 0 degrees Fahrenheit, at the end of every hour a creature who is exposed to the cold must make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or gain 1 level of exhaustion. Creatures with immunity or resistance to cold damage automatically succeed along with any creatures wearing cold weather gear. So aside from Matt’s insane hail storms, the tortoise doesn’t have to worry about damage. It does however have to worry about levels of exhaustion if it were to be stuck as a tortoise for longer than an hour. If you get 6 levels of exhaustion, you die and thus a True Polymorph that kept it as a tortoise would most definitely be a death sentence.
Why has snow and ice not killed a polymorphed but still seriously heavy and shrunken Galapagos Giant Tortoise being used as a curling stone? Did I Miss Anything?
Campaign ends and like 30 years later Beau is sitting at home when in the distance she sees an angry turtle charging towards her trying to attack.
Campaign end boss is just a revenge team of giant monsters they've polymorphed into little animals.
