Love seeing how these "wild" systems are coming back to life! Would be great to see a progress update on your caviar production experiments this spring/summer!

You bet! I have a big experiment planned for them!

Cement mortar blocks work well. You will get four males per block. One in each cell and one on each side wall. Four breeding males per block and they stay where you put them. I would also advise to be careful to put removed nests back exactly where they were since non breeding minnows will eat eggs if the male can’t relocate his nest to protect them.

What do you bait traps with? Or do they just randomly going?

Can they survive under the ice in the winter?

What is the black tray that you used as spawning material?

What did you use to bait your Minnow "traps"?

I made a large funnel trap out of 1/8 inch hardware cloth and put some dog food in for bait. Keeping it along the edge really helps to as the minnows swim in circles along the edge and just swim right in!

Hi Takota, have you ever tried eating the minnows directly? I've heard they can be pretty good.

💛Hopefully the plastic pipes and crate don't leach out toxins into your water. I love your videos and the wealth of knowledge you share. Thank you, Mr Coen.

I haven't had any problems yet, it is an HDPE plastic so it is about as safe as they come.

@@TakotaCoen Still, solar radiation always degrades plastic. It'd be nice to look for a replacement. A literal piece of wood may work.
