      Heh, up until now I've been using little tree models from model train sets stuck into bits of styrofoam. The bases weren't heavy enough, so I used putty to attach quarters to the bottom of them. They worked well enough. This hobby is great in that you can play with no props, home built props, or fancy things like Dwarven Forge. Doesn't really change the fundamental enjoyment of the game. It's just a matter of what people want to spend their money on. -Theo

  • @commanderbbshockwave8698
    @commanderbbshockwave8698 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow this thing looks amazing. Costly too, but amazingly detailed and I love the flexiibility of differently sized modular trees. What did you say what material this was made of? Because certainly I'd imagine storing these and keeping them unbroken would be the biggest problem.
    I would sure as heck invest in this for a mini display forest if I had a bigger flat... as it is, not likely to do so anytime soon.

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They call it Dwarvenite. According to their wiki, "Dwarvenite is a non-toxic, PVC based material, specially compounded to hold precise detail, take paint well, and withstand a serious beating." "Original Dwarvenite Game Tiles were thrown off a 10-story tower, and then run over with a truck - and there was no damage." And yeah, I don't worry one bit about my dwarven forge pieces getting damaged. They also have castle, cavern, mountain, burrows, dungeon, and town pieces. It's the same company that makes the town set that we show in almost all our videos. -Theo

    OMG It's really gorgeous, but so expensive, it costs twice my monthly salary. It also looks a bit like a small set piece, with very limited potential, which is something I often tend to search for stuff that I can use often.
    That's why I like the Homestead set, the Jungle Shrine, the barracks... Because even though I will not use them completley that often, many bits and pieces can make an appearance in different scenarios.
    Once again, great review! :D

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is quite expensive. Another option that I wish I had shown is that you can just get a few forest and tree pieces with some banks and use them like other scatter terrain on your regular battle map. You can get some transition banks pieces to help make them look natural. Then you'll have cool terrain with few pieces at a less expensive price point, plus you'll have lots of flat room on the battle map in order to display your other sets like the Jungle Shrine. So instead of using the Dwarven Forge as the entire battle map, use it as scatter terrain. -Theo

      @@TheGallantGoblin That sounds more interesting now, but still far too steep for me.
      I'll give this to the product: The sheer shock value and the ability to impress it's really there, if I were to play with something like these at say, a convention, I'm sure many people will have a hard to forget session

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's true. It makes a great impression. I find some players can completely immerse themselves using just their imaginations, but others can be helped by little imagination-aids. Things like terrain, mini, spell reference cards and spell effect minis. Sound effects and music too. It's just what works best for your group of players and yourself! Thanks for watching and commenting! -Theo

      Reading through the comments now, I should have shown a few more ways to use the terrain. I pretty much kept the same arrangement of pieces for the entire video, but it can be rearranged to make it work for a variety of situations. It's also possible to just use a few pieces as scatter terrain on a regular battle map. I may play with it a bit this week and upload some pictures onto our Instagram channel to show alternate ways of using it. -Theo

    • @Gamarishi
      @Gamarishi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGallantGoblin For me, the problem was that there was too many details to look at, even without the top part of the trees. Having too many things to look at can make the game slower and even kill its vibe depending on whom you are playing with.
