Daphne and Simon’s Dance in the Rain | Bridgerton
/ netflixuk
The eight close-knit siblings of the Bridgerton family look for love and happiness in London high society. Inspired by Julia Quinn's bestselling novels.
_Just because something is not perfect… does not make it any less worthy of love. Your father made you believe otherwise. He made you believe that you needed to be without fault in order to be loved, but he was wrong. Should you need any proof of the matter, then… Then look just here.I am tired of pretending. And I cannot continue acting as if I… As if I do not love you. Because I do. I love all of you. Even the parts that you believe are too dark and too shameful. Every scar. Every flaw. Every imperfection.I love you. You may think you are too damaged and too broken to ever allow yourself to be happy, but you can choose differently, Simon. You can choose to love me as much as I love you. That should not be up to anyone else. That cannot be up to anyone else. It can only be up to you._ 💕

This part got me crying..... especially the first line .. please how long should we wait for season 2 ? Hope it won’t get to December?😩😩😩
Violet’s role is underrated, may not be as flashy as others, but her role in shaping their marriage and if we want to praise Eloise about feminist, just look at her mum who raised 8 wonderful children and manages the entire household as a widow in that period, a feminist doesn’t have to walk with books, Violet is one role model society often don’t celebrate - motherhood and its impact on our society

Got married at 18, lost the love of her life at 36 while pregnant. She kept her family together and mirrored a life of love to her children. She is awesome.

Love is a choice, but so is fidelity.
From the sheer volume of stories I've heard in my own lifetime of stories of infidelity it's pretty obvious that whether love is involved or not people of both genders are being disloyal to their partners all the time.
In my opinion society itself is to blaime - society puts such a high value on marriage that it causes people to lean towards it merely as a point of conforming to societies expectations, then they end up feeling trapped with the person they pushed to marry and are too cowardly to break it off so they start seeing/sleeping with someone else while still married on in a long term relationship.
Just rewatched for the fourth time and came here bc of withdrawals yet again, turns out I’m ur 2,100th:)
I love that she walks away.
She said what she had to say and now hes gotta think about it. She didnt push for an answer or a swept up in the moment kiss, it was a take it or leave type thing and honestly I loved it.
Like The Dukes mother said, you may give him a nudge or a push when he needs it, but it must be his choice. He made the right one

Totally agree. Season is so iconic none can top it.
This season was so satisfying especially this scene

Right , s2 cast are great ,but bruh most half of the season , are downright boring, the only scene taht made sense for me , is that bee scene where anthony looses it,
they lacking so much tone in s2 that s1 have.
s1 will always be the BRIDGERTON FOR ME.
both couples bring me joy, happy to leave it at that. lets hope that the next 6 couples (two more seasons have been confirmed, the next four should be basically in the bag) bring us all the same amount of joy.
His father damaged him to the point that he felt he was unlovable. He believed he was not worthy. Daphne saved him. For the first time he felt loved.
Kudos to the writers and actors. This could have easily been cheesy. But instead it is captivating and provocative. Loved every moment of it.

I didn’t realize how powerful this scene was until now. During their waltz, notice how all the other couples are looking towards the side to see where they’re going, but Daphne and Simon are looking straight into each other’s eyes majority of the time, especially when the slow-motion part happens. Thats when you can really tell how much they love each other. Absolutely stunning and breathtaking scene.

True Matriarch
I absolutely love Violet Bridgerton!! I love how she handles the situations that arise. When Anthony arranged for Daphne to marry Berbrooke, Violet knew that getting the women together and the gossip going was the way out of that marriage! Throughout the whole series thus far, she has been classy yet handled the situations appropriately!!
Yes! If there's ever a competition for Bridgerton Mother of the year, Lady Violet Bridgerton would have my vote, no questions asked. 😊
Phoebe Dynevor's performance as Daphne Bridgerton is absolutely stunning and enthralling. She has so many subtle yet effective ways to emote, though none can penetrate the heart quite as quickly as her eyes. There's not one instance of insincerity in them which Phoebe fails to be true to Daphne. I believe Daphne's hardship in realizing her future with Simon, her missteps, her innocence and heartache. I believe Daphne's love for Simon; together through the ever-stellar work of Regé-Jean Page, the intensity of that love they share for one another.
This!!! I'm so sad that she did not get any major award nominations for her role as Daphne. She's amazing
True! Nobody can step on Phoebe when it comes to her acting. This young lady is way too great, hopefully she gets the recognition she deserves.
I agree with you kykis9, DEFINITELY

The bar is so damn high. Crossing my fingers for season 2, I can't even lie.
If you've read the books, The Viscount who loved me(for second season), has the best story out of all the books in my opinion. So you can expect the best for the second season(if they wont change the story).
@@knightjae2766 honestly I haven't read the book. Now I must say that I've been far from impressed with Anthony... first of all he's very overbearing, has that holier than thou attitude + that Regency fuckboy behavior. Remember that scene when he fought with the duke at the gentleman's club or something? I wanted to punch his GOT-DAMN face lololol! He attacked the Duke through his dad, knowing good and well that's the biggest trauma of his life, I thought that was so unecessary petty and mean. That scene illustrates Anthony imo. Basically I had a very hard time connecting with this character. So yeah I'm nervous about season 2 😂
PS: don't get me wrong the duke was TOTALLY a damaged fuckboy but never pretended to be someone he's not unlike Anthony who acted like he was "the superior one". Nah...ion like that lol!
I don't necessarily care what's in the books, it's the TV show from Shondaland that makes Daphne/Simon's love story totally exquisite for me, along with Rege and Phoebe. You're so right that this combo (Shondaland/Rege/Phoebe) has set a pretty damn high bar. I've seen Anthony on the tv show and I remain unimpressed. Nevertheless, the mere thought that Season2 (without substantial focus on Simon/Daphne- the sole reason the show is so wildly popular worldwide) can be as successful as Season1 seems totally implausible to me. You don't kick the very thing that made the show to the back of the line and expect to get the same results, that is totally illogical and I'd bet MsRhimes didn't become as successful as she is, believing otherwise!
@@jackieperry786 oh but I think they said the Hastings will still be part of the second season. I don't know in what capacity but they will, so there's that too. They can certainly NOT get rid of these 2. Daphne and Simon left such a huge mark on everyone, getting rid of them would be suicidal. And to be honest we got a lot of Anthony's shenanigans this season they need to return the favor to the Hastings in the second season.
Talita M. True, Anthony had substantial focus in S1. As did Marina (who I've read is a more minor character in the book). They also inserted the Queen, Mr. Featherington, and Will and Alice (who I also really like with Simon). So yes, these showrunners have already set a precedent for telling the story their way and I'm glad. Anthony can get his love story in S2 with plenty more story for the others, just as in S1.
The fact that even the Queen listened to her friend, smiling and leaving.
After Queen Charlotte, you learn that she and George had lived separate lives for a bit before coming together. Daphne and Simon, even though they were separated for a short amount of time, realized how much they loved each other.
@@rubyanne4909hey,do u knowy are comments seen incomplete?if I click on them,I am just getting the reply option.
After the storm, after the fights, after the misunderstandings and general fucked-upery - Daphne and Simon are faced with the unavoidable, inalienable truth - they are truly, madly and deeply in love with each other; and here we see them make a very conscious choice to *continue* loving each other. I love this scene. It gives me Beyonce - All Night vibes. Nothing like it when you need a good sob into a tub of ice cream
I love how you mentioned a good sob into a tub of ice cream because I was having a rough day with my self perception when I watched this and I just cried. I felt like she had been talking to me in a way and for all that happened during this show, this speech was my favorite part by far.

to think that she was given only 2 takes to deliver that.. She is super talented that girl..
same she really needs more recognition, he acting is absolutely amazing
When the rain falls....the drops falling on the candles, plopping into the glass, trickling down the portrait, the lifting notes of the orchestral piece as Daphne lifts her face to the sky and laughs...that shot was MAGIC😍😍😍😍😍💖💖💖
YES IKRR, I KEEP REWINDING THAT PART❤️
Magic, beautiful shot
I think she's also remembering the rain during her honeymoon which didn't spoil or deter their plans.
Indeed!
My exact thoughts, so beautiful
The rain, symbolizing the chaos of life, and Daphne embracing that chaos with a smile--a "perfect" day becoming "imperfect" and then the monologue, loving her husband for who he is, despite his "imperfections" and embracing the chaos of life together--such a touching scene on what it means to love
you def have a great eye for symbolism, well done!
Daphne is so brave here. She chose to be vulnerable in front of him and confess her love with her whole being. That's true love right there..
I love how you can see Simon's face soften as she says that she loves him. One of my favourite parts. Its very good acting, it seems almost real.

I agree.
"You are a Bridgerton... there is NOTHING you CANNOT do..." simply Amazing
This three-part sequence is one of my favorite moments in the series so far and carries one of the most beautiful and powerful lessons I ever heard in any romance dramas. Usually, I'm not a big fan of the genre because a lot of movies and TV series tend to sugarcoat love stories, carry dubious (even dangerous) messages about couple relationships and unrealistic expectations about our soulmate. However, the Bridgerton series was an unexpected surprise in those matters and it couldn't be better shown than by the love story between Simon and Daphne (again, the chemistry between Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page is absolutely breathtaking!). ❤️
First, I really love the exchange with the mom talking to Daphne about how she missed her husband every single day and nevertheless be in peace knowing that they made the choice to love and forgive each other despite all the difficulties they had to endure. Not only it is a great bonding moment between mother and daughter but it's a great character growth for Daphne who has been raised with a very idealistic vision of romance (remember the « flawless my dear » scene in the very first episode). No marriage is perfect and could never be. A lot of us (including myself) have grown up with movies and TV shows ending with a happy marriage and have thus developed unrealistic and unhealthy expectations about what happened next in a young couple's life. But for a married life to be really happy and successful, we have to make an effort to accept each obstacle and difficulty not as a barrier but as an opportunity to work together and become an even stronger person.
The waltz scene is so magical and beautifully shot. The slow-motion when Simon and Daphne look at each other's eyes while others watched them with awe is a perfect parallel with the first ever dance they had together when they devised their scheme. While in their first scene, Simon and Daphne had to pretend to love each other in order to be well-seen by society, in their last dance, they're not paying attention to the crowd anymore because they fell in love again. When it started to rain, notice how everyone got afraid and run for a shelter, except for Daphne and then Simon. I like to think that it echoes Daphne's final acceptation to embrace hardship and imperfection in her relationship rather than running from it. And Simon first asking her for shelter but deciding to stay with her in the rain echoes him being torn-apart between his insecure self (induced by his father's traumatic upbringing) and his undeniable love for Daphne (the final choice he made).
But more than anything, it's Daphne's love speech to Simon that make this TV couple stands out compared to others. I find it so refreshing that this time, it's a woman (rather than a man) who has to declare all her love to her partner and giving him emotional support, something a lot of men in this world seem to need and we often forget about it. Daphne gave what Simon longed for during all his life and that his cold and perfectionist father never even dared to give : unconditional love. During all the season, Simon thought he would never be worthy of Daphne's affection. All because he was taught all his life that no matter how hard he tried to make his father proud by overcoming his stammer, he would never receive any kind of recognition or affection. But Daphne showed him that this idea was completely false because she had always loved him for the man he was, despite all his flaws and all things he thought were shameful in his eyes (but never in Daphne's eyes). Even more, Daphne told him that it is up to him and only him to make the choice to love her, which is a huge contrast to the mistake she made in episode 6 by forcing him to do something for her. And in return, Simon made the decision to definitely break the vow made to his father and chose to live his happiness in its fullest with Daphne. In short, this scene alone successfully completed the character arcs for both Simon and Daphne.
For all the reasons cited above, I think this scene should be shown to everyone undergoing couple therapy sessions, so they can figure out where they got all wrong in their relationship. In fact, this scene should be watched by everyone, young or old, who are considering a possible love relationship and a happy marriage like they had dreamed of about all their life.
This was an amazing deep dive into the messages and metaphors behind their relationship. I also thought the same about the conversation she had with her mom and her deciding to stay in the rain because in that moment she’s accepting the fact that nothing in life is perfect, which is why she chuckled a little bit. And she’s ok with that! But I’ve been saying to my friends for the past month and half that her declaration to Simon isn’t forced or an ultimatum, it’s just pure (which made up for Meredith’s speech to Derek🤪) But it is a choice and her saying that to him at the end and giving him that discrete smile at the end was so heartfelt because I think at that moment she’s letting him go if he decides that’s what he wants.
I just wanted to say you sum this love story up so beautifully!! IMO you are right we could ALL take a lesson in learning from this. I will be honest I was giving up on every meeting someone again.. but this love story gives me hope again!
@@sarahebirim7678 This is exactly what I thought too. Daphne was ready to definitely give up her biggest dream of having a family of her own and give this choice to Simon. In short, this is where they both decided to reciprocally give to the other what they always longed for : Daphne gave him unconditional love towards his imperfection and Simon gave her the family she always dreamed of.
Oh my. You wrote it so beautifully. I'm a fan of you.
Wow I could not have said it better but I do remember when watching that rain scene by for the first time that the kind of symbolises clarity for Daphne you that moment she just let go and to just be how she felt about Simon
I genuinely think this scene will never be topped in the Bridgerton series. It is a piece of art, honestly. Season 2 was good but the connection Simon and Daphne had was not even scratched by Kate and Anthony. It didn’t feel right the Duke not being there either
True!!!!!!
dont know what are these people from s2 is getting at, first half of s2 is downright boring.
Nah Kate and Anthony had way more chemistry than Daph and Simon. There was so much more passion there, and honestly a lot of the time when I watch s1 I find myself struggling to believe that S & D even like each other. K & A, their problem was that they liked each other too much. Says a lot about them as a couple in my opinion
I believe so too
@@Lamsus854 I can’t ever like Kate and Anthony knowing that poor Edwina was done damn dirty. Daphne and Simon did so much together and genuinely got close as people not just as crushes and got married, it felt deeper.
@@Lamsus854nah they married their best friends. Kate and Anthony hate each other but think they’re hot. Like bane of existence means CONSTANT misery and annoyance. The object of desire could easily be lust. Simon loved Daphne so much he got to know her and wanted her to love her dream of having a family. They were able to be friends and lovers not just lovers. After sex fades their relationship would stand a test, lust is finite
This part right here is certainly my favorite. I love how Phoebe Dynevor acted this from the start of the dance to the end in the rain. She gave the right expression while deliveing such beautiful confession of love. She is great. Such an amazing actress indeed. I am looking forward to what is in store for this woman. She is an absolute delight.
Spent the whole season wondering how they can go all this time in England without a spec of rain (even in the summer)! It was worth the wait!
When Bridgerton does a rain scene, it DOES A RAIN SCENE.
Too right!!
🤣 That’s England.
I was thinking the same thing, like they had perfect days for filming…😂😂😂
This season is my favorite of all. The chemistry is so intense. I still hope they include Simon in the the next seasons.
Hes not there cause he didn’t want to be. Sadly
One of the absolute best things about the storytelling here is that when the characters finally speak their truth, the words are believable on every level. The character building is exquisite. When Daphne says "Just because something is not perfect does not make it less worthy of love"...it is a fundamental truth for her that we believe, that Simon believes, because her family is imperfect and yet she loves them dearly. Simon can't then question that truth. It is only whether he wants to accept this future for himself--or continue living for cold perfection "forlorn and alone", as Daphne puts it. So beautifully done.
Lady Bridgerton's speech had my crying so hard. The strength of a mother cheering on her child. And the words so true. They made the choice to love each other every day. just...wow
Me too❤️
I felt Daphne's emotion here I even cried. I cannot imagine myself saying these words to a man that I love because I'm too weak and shy lol. But seriously, Phoebe's acting skills are on high level. Salute to her
The way Daphne said :"I wish there was something mama, I wish i could do this.." in such a trembeling and scared voice...is such...peak momment❤❤ I feel it every time..❤❤
I think this is the reason why I felt & touched more by season 1 because the 2 main characters learned that loving someone is a choice and it is never perfect but both must do the effort/ hard work for it to work and strive. And yes both of them are flawed characters but it made them human, and they did try to be better. (Daphne, naive innocent girl that has been dependent on her mama; while Simon, scorned broken and thinks he is undeserving of happiness and love).
100% agree I just finished season 2 and I liked it . BUT 1 is in my opinion so much better so much more emotionally captivating can’t stop thinking about Daphne and Simon! 😭

I think we can all agree that there was a missed opportunity for a kiss in the rain BUT i love the fact that she walked away and left him pondering her words instead. Made the scene so much more intense for me.
I disagree. If they took that opportunity, it would have leaned into being cliche. I am glad they didn’t take the opportunity to do so.
This is such a powerful scene. First Daphne with her Mom, encouraging her to have strength and then with Da[phne with the Duke sharing and encoouraging him. I loved the dyamics, the music, the interaction, the portrait, Lady Danbury. It was MAGIC!!!!
I don’t care what anyone says I will always love this couple. They weren’t perfect, yes they had some shortcomings but is any human ever perfect? There’s just something so real and uncut about these 2 ❤
That was a brilliant speech. Kudos to the writers and Phoebe.
Brigerton 1 is so underrated.
I kinda want like a 9th season where It’s about Violet and Edmund’s love story tbh. I mean… we hear so much about their love. I kinda want to see how that began.
Nobody seems to be talking about that moment in 1:31 - Daphne's showing a moment of desperation, vulnerability, her trembling lips, and teary eyes. THIS was the moment where my heart just broke and felt for her. Violet's words of encouragement were just what I needed to be bawling. I keep coming back to this scene. It's just simply amazing! There is something about this scene that makes me keep coming back to it, somehow it soothes my anxiety, my unwanted emotions. My little cheat code to peace, whether it is just for some time :)))
Me also! It’s a calm and a reassurance of a parent love and the music!
Jesus can give you that forever. And He wants to. He’s waiting for you right where you left that piece of your heart which longs to be fully intimately loved ❤
I love Daphne's advice, declaration, here to Simon. Who amongst us has not felt unworthy, too damaged, broken...to deserve love? I think we all have. I surely have and still, at times do. I haven't let it stop me, though. It has left me in "pause" for reflection, but it has not stopped me. The music, too, so perfect...though, in truth, I don't think it is a waltz, but a polka, they are dancing to...but it doesn't matter. She realized during that dance (though I believe she knew it from when she spoke to Lady Danbury) that she was not going to allow him to leave without telling her how she felt and the psychology, so to speak, of why he felt as he did. Such a human moment. How wonderful it would be to know that we all had someone to speak to us, when we feel nearing an end, that could pick us up so. The ticket, here and for all of us, is "communication" and when we lack it, when our pride tells us not to say or do anything, or dignity, things go bad. She communicated. She took herself to a place many would not allow themselves to be brought...and she succeeded in her task. It is so simple...communication, but so difficult to do at times. We must push through the pride and self doubt and anger...and simply communicate.
This is the most beautiful scene on Netflix and Violin 🎻 makes it even better ❤
I am really sorry for Simon. With all that wealth and such low self esteem. Daphne and he were destined to be together so he could heal.
Even the Queen obeys Lady Danbury
This scene made me cry because it put into words what I felt about someone just as broken by their father. But I learned that all the love in the world cannot make a person love themselves which, in turn, makes them unable to love anyone else the way they should.
I wanna see Philipa Featherington and Albion Finch get married. Lord knows that family need some relief.
Me too! I hope we will see their marriage happening in season 2. Plus, they're just so cute! :)
They revealed that he’s not wealthy. He’s a good man but not wealthy.
@@kimberlyking9523 The circumstances of her father's death and the rumours surrounding it is likely to make a marriage to even a non-wealthy man a desirable prospect for the Featheringtons, so long as he's respectable and still has a place in society. He might not fit their mother's hopes but it'll still be one less daughter to worry about and to provide for. And as I said, if he's seen as a respectable man it'll save the family some face at least, and at least keep their position in society up to a point. Hopefully she'll still get her dowry or some of it at least.
one of my favorite scenes....
this season is the number one for me and the best season of Bridgerton
We CHOSE to LOVE each other EVERY SINGLE DAY!! THIS, THIS is what it's all about. LOVE is a CHOICE! EVERY DAY, it's a CHOICE - freely given, freely received. This is what makes it so powerful!!
Low key wanted them to keep dancing like nothing could phase them when they are together 😭
Same, I was hoping they would keep dancing in the rain looking deep into each others eyes
this is still my favorite season!
I LOVE Queen Charlotte throughout the series and also in this scene. As she fulfills her duties as the Queen during the season, she always recognizes love between two people. She’s always rooting for love to win.
My favourite scene throughout the whole show!
I've watched this series for over 5 times and I burn for S2🤒🤒
Same😭
Only 5? I am ashamed to say I have lost count on how many times I have watched it 😝. I don't want to come out of it ever.❤️
@Harrison Joe Good. Thanks!!!
@Harrison Joe Great! Hope you're doing good too...
@Harrison Joe No thanks..
Despite having read their book, you could tell at the beginning that they were on their way to falling for each other. There were little moments of touch and stares and most definitely powerful scenes like this one to know just how deep their love for one another was even if they didn't want to admit it!
I teared up a bit during her speech. Sometimes we all need a reminder that's okay. That's Just okay to love and be Loved. Beautiful.
This scene is so beautifully orchestrated, the music, rain, painting, champagne glasses, etc... the monologue of Daphne...wow...A man truly desires for a woman to love him with all his flaws, The very worst of him and still he is loved, so powerful!!
All that talk of separating and the first thing he does as it starts to pour is reach for her to pull her out of the rain🥲my heart😭😭😭😭
