Dude you cracked me up! I’m at war with the little varmints too. The fact that you bought a plasma cutter, a really nice welder, cutoff saw, grinders, gloves, helmet, a fricking old wheel, and who knows what else in order to create the worlds (or at least Texas’s) best squirrel proof bird feeder puts you in a league all your own. Sir, I AM IMPRESSED! Seriously, I thank you for sharing your knowledge and the manner in which you approach life: You’re an inspiration and a damned talented fellow. I loved this video, great job! I am not capable of making something like that so I bought a Yankee Flipper and so far I have won the war because the squirrels deemed it was too tuff to beat it. I kind of miss seeing them, but they totally gave up after a couple of days trying.
Don't be surprised the squirrels outsmart ya. I made a similar contraption several years ago and found the squirrels managed to find a way up despite not being near a building or tree. Personally, I think they know how to fly or they took pole vaulting lessons; the little toots. Give 'em a while. They'll figure things out.
I too have had a squirrel problem and have triedso many ways to solve the pesky problem. The best way i managed to do it, is i got 4 metal hanging bakets, tipped 2 upside down to make a ball fasten them together and move them enough to make the holes as small as possible. If the boles are still a bit too big for the squirels to get through, tie some wire over the holes. Dont forget to put the feeding plate inside first! I hope this works ok. It has worked for me! Good luck
Nice job. Not sure why I wasn't notified about this release. Looks like a good build. Paint to avoid rust. Pesky squirrels should not be successful with that cone. Be sure to let us know. Thanks for sharing.
You really love playing with your toys. There are lots of much easier ways of making a squirrel proof feeder stand. A 12 foot pole with a cross bar on top with an 8 inch diameter tube attached 6 feet up that is closed on top. I use a pole with two nails in to to take the feeders down and put them back up. The squirrels climb up the pole, go into the tube and can’t figure how to get out.
I wanted a bird proof squirrel feeder. I hung a corncob on a wire from a tree branch. The squirrels hang by their hind legs and eat the corn. The birds don't even try. Then I put out a large tray of corn and bird seed and now I get to watch squirrels, cardinals, blue Jay's and doves all eat.
would love to see the squirrels trying to get to the feed. for fun you could Vaseline the pole and really have some fun I did this to a feeder and enjoyed it. it's really satisfying to watch ps video tape it in post. please
I battled squirrels for years until discovering this fix. A 6 foot shepherds crook liberly coated with Vaseline is the simplest easiest solution. But you have to re-coat after heavy rains.
Another tip: if squirrels are digging up your flowers put cayenne pepper all around them. Doesn't bother flowers, and once squirrels get a snootful they stay away.
Nice job!! Seems like a bunch of work and cost but it looks like it will work. Squirrels are very clever and are able to figure stuff out over time. The only bird feeder I have seen work is one I had years ago. It gave them a shock from a battery bank in the base. The birds were unaffected because they did not complete the circuit if they were on the perch. Please share how this is working for you. 🚫🐿
I had flying squirrels. They attacked at night. My yard had tall trees, so they could glide to wherever the feeder was. Some birds were fussy eaters and would empty out the feeder just to get at the seed they liked.

It seems that your speaking directly to the student & that it matters that they fully understand. Now ill get back to watching what i guess is a months worth of video. Marvelous. Keep going fella.
Nice design. Hope it works out for you in your battle of the squirrel invaders. 😎 Do you by chance put anything out at ground level, out by the trees, for the squirrels? If they have their own snack, that could deter them raiding the bird's feed as well. I don't know what a big bag of peanuts in the shell costs, or other large seed, but might be something to look into. Unless, that is, you just want them to leave.🤔
@@mikefannon6994 okay, just wondered. I don't have a squirrel problem. I've lived in my house for 11 years come the end of this month, and I've only ever seen one on my 0.6 acre lot, or even in my neighbor's yards, out in the country. I guess they all got hunted out before we bought the place.
None have reached seed via climbing it. A few have dive bombed from trees. I've moved it a little bit at a time until they just can't reach it but keep trying.
I noticed that when I put out no shell walnuts for the squirrel's that they joyfully eat the walnuts and leave the birdseed alone. And I put my birdseed on a 2 feet brick wall and the squirrel's run across the bird seed and leave it alone and make a beeline for the walnuts. All wildlife like humans, like food. They don't go for the birdseed at all, they could care less, but then I also don't have sunflower seeds mixed into my birdseed. Sunflower seeds have an aroma which attracts squirrel's.
As far as the notching of the pipe, plasma leaves a gnarly globby edge (no good for proper welding.... it's actually very easy to notch this pipe properly, you simply cut with a cutoff on angle grinder then put on a low grit flappy disk or grind stone on grinder and simply sand out that divot in the end of the pipe. Goes quicker than you think
Very interesting. My problem is not squirrels... I don't have any despite years and years of bird feeding.
