- I'm in full-swing planting-out mode at the moment, and with days of blue sky and sunshine lined up, it’s time to get busy planting out and growing sweet corn on the allotment for bumper crops this summer.
In this video, I show you how I plant sweetcorn and tips to ensure good pollination and bigger yields. I also show you which type of French beans I prefer and how to make the most of the available space.

Lovely, thank you Chris👍
I think your plot is looking lovely Chris. LOVE that maroon artichoke! Jealous! Great update! Garlics looking good too! If you'd like some pongo dwarf beans for next year. Let me know! Danny 🌱
Hi Danny, thank you and yes, I'd love to try some Pongo Dwarf beans if you have any spare. I'll message you about the maroon artichoke 👍
I plant my corn 8 inches apart. It's what square foot gardening suggests and it has worked well for me with great pollination.
Sounds good to me Bob, do you grow much sweetcorn? It's such a great crop isn't it?
Stunning weather, Chris 😀
The red colour on the sweetcorn is beautiful, I hope it will do as well as the Swift (I grew that last year and had a good crop) 😊💚🌿
I'm a fair weather TH-cam gardener 😂... only film on blue sky days!
@veggieplot 😅 it always seems to be sunny there 😎 🥰 which means you're always gardening 🤣💚
😥just planted my tomatoes today . They look really healthy so I’m happy. 😃 I have planted my sweetcorn a bit closer than yours , didn’t do very well last year , needed more watering. Still have a lot of weeding to do : next door’s plot is not well looked after so the bindweed is reaching my plot and with all that rain , the weeds have grown really fast 😡so more to do tomorrow 😊
Hi Sandrine, I swear I moved house once because the bindweed was just too problematic 😂 damn stuff drives me crazy! Are you growing many tomatoes this year? Many of your seeds have made it through to this year's list, such great varieties 👍 Happy gardening 🌱
@@veggieplot well yes I am growing many of the usual tomatoes Amish Sherbert , White Queen, Cream Sausage , Pink Berkley Tie Dye, Lucid Gem, Black Prince , Lydie’s Rose and a few others but the plastic labels faded 😡so won’t be keeping seeds from those ones … in total 35 plants maybe … the season has a late start so I am hoping for a long summer to extend the productivity 🤤 must sow more French beans … I know where I am spending my Bank Holiday 😁😁
The Globe Artichokes look amazing and well ahead of mine, the views look nice from there though it looks like a windy spot.
Definitely a wind spot but the views make up for it. I'm surprised the artichokes do so well but the free draining soil and plenty of sunshine must be helping. Do you grow artichokes?
@@veggieplot I grew about 30 plants from seeds last year and still have about 7 plants left and gave the others away to family and friends, they look prehistoric and certainly add colour to the garden, I also have Sunchokes that offer great wind protection
And great for roasting.
Strangely I planted .my sweetcorn out this weekend, also incredible, but no red colour....
Hey James, I hope I haven't got mixed up seeds again, they'll probably be popcorn knowing my luck!
I'm like you so much at home in the ghouse that needs to go in all my beds. Not enough hrs in a day. 😂😂
It's so tricky balancing everything isn't it? I'm hoping I can get almost everything done this bank holiday weekend, but might have to start a 4 day week 😂
👌👌☑️☑️☑️🍁☘️💞🤗😍😊
Thank you
