I have to keep lobbying for Analog Four as a drum machine, it's genuinely great and has an entirely different vibe from AR, instead of more simpler sounds you can really go wild with trigs and locks on one channel and run that into the next for some sick overdrive and filtering, works great, it's an absolutely killer box for drum sounds and some synths
The Nord Drum 3P most definitely has a drum stand mount mate, the 4 screws at the back in the middle...it actually comes with the mount (at least when you buy it new), you can use most drum stands with it (cymbal etc)
Awesome video! I find the Syntakt can do some very unique drum sounds and textures using the digital/analog engines, and separate FX track. I personally find it one of the most inspiring Elektron devices as an all in one machine.
The TR-8S is an excellent clock! I prefer it over my Digitakt 1 for this purpose. I do not create in DAW and I use a MioXL to coordinate my stand alone midi chain. @ yeah, it’s just that somehow they did NOT nail it with the presets for me, so you’re missing out if you value it by the presets (IMHO) as you mentioned ☺️
I actually find the menu diving on the TR-8/TR-8S harder than on the Digitakts since you have that tiny screen and have to scroll through the menu vs simply pressing a button a few times (and the Elektron screen shows you so much more and you have 8 knobs to tweak parameters vs 1).

Nord 3p is misunderstood. You get 6 individuelle synthesizers that you can play cromatic(ly?) and tons of sound design possibilities. Run it through som effects and you can write entire songs on this. Best value IMO - but you're right, the presets kinda suck :)
And at least the drum kit presets are not really ready for techno sequencing. I mean as for classic bread and butter sounds. They where chosen for live percussion drumming. Maybe more as an addition to your fundamental drums. Watch a video with a god drummer and you will see. When you want to sequence drums you just need to make your own kits. Chose from the presets (and there are definitely some really unique sounds to find, the few you here in this video are from the more boring side) and or create your own sounds. And besides drum sounds the machine is also good for melodic sounds or fx (the nord drum uses physical modelling synthesis). The 3P can be a great addition to your main drum machine, you can play live with stick and it's build like a tank (super thick metal).
@okinawa1312 totally agree with everything your saying! I use it addition and mostly for melodic stuff. I never owned a vermona performer, but the FM stuff can get close.
Thank you for this video and all the previous ones! Loving your style and approach. However, if you’re basing your review on presets alone, you’re missing out on a lot (as are we all). I own a Nord Drum and completely wiped the presets to craft some of the most bouncy 808 electro sounds, very much in the style of Marc Romboy. It’s definitely worth exploring further. The pads are also incredibly responsive, making them a joy to play with your fingertips. My 2 cents :)
That's awesome ! Yeah I dug in a little bit further than the presets but it just wasn't sitting well for me, for my taste - but clearly some people in the comments disagree ! Thank you for watching :-)
Can I trigger the output signal of the nord drum with the retro encabulator of the rytm's analog unilateral phase detractors, modulating the frequency response at the intersection of the ramistan, or can this not be done? I am tired of companies not listening to their users needs.

I feel like machines sometimes kneecap themselves with too many features. I have some of the bigger elektron boxes but always come back to the cycles because of how little fuss it is to use , also the os doesn’t have near the amount of bugs their younger products have.
Also I kind of feel like overbridge is overrated. Using the instrument as a vst is like reaching around your elbow to get to your asshole , much faster just to get going on any other vst if that’s how you mainly want to use it. The RYTM has more performance control. Not something I use a lot personally so not an expert by any means. But things like assigning pad pressure to various parameters.
I have all three. The Rytm has the ability to sum samples with synthesis and then route that through an analog ladder filter in a single drum voice. all of those voices goes though an analog compressor. It gives the machine a very “glued/ put together sound” almost organic sounding. Syntakt has analog voices but no samples or stacking noise sources. Digitakt 2 is an amazing sampler and gets you closer (you can always have great quality samples) but you lose that organic quality of the VCOs and filters. The VCO on the Rytm isn’t as precise as the VCOs on the Syntakt and I think for percussion it lends itself to its charm.
There are ways to really beef it up. Turn up kit gain to +10 so it’s hitting the built in soft clipper. Also, you can use saturator or drive for each channel FX to taste. And then of course using compressor or Vinyl Sim compressor for the master effect. Takes a little pre-work but makes the kits beefier
The 8s FM drum engines are really deep. It's a really powerful machine with way to much menu diving. I have a DRM1 which has the most options out of all analog drum machines for sound design. It unfortunately had no sequencer or automation.
@@LiamKillen If you use the software with the Tr-8s the sequencer is really deep.
