Peter Cook. Unsurpassed. Britains finest comedian by miles. A complete genius. There will never be another to match him. He should have won numerous awards for his performances here.
I remember this going out. His other character was the nerdy metal detector. What a show! I was at college with a guy like Peter, comic repartee and improv skills but this talent comes with an eventual price for them
He was a good monologuist but a poor actor bc he could not bear to share the spotlight. Even with Dud you could see Cook asserting his superiority, treading on the little bloke's line and trying to make him crack up. He was fine with a partner as inert as Anderson is here (all Anderson does is nod and say 'yes... yes') but with real actors Cook was at sea. That is why he failed in movies and sitcoms. Very funny in flashes, but no stamina and little capacity for self-criticism. Peter Sellers was like him as a cartoonish portrayer of characters, but Sellers could sustain a caricaturish impression longer, and could react as well as act. Cook always seemed to be in a bubble. And boy did he recycle his material; in his 40s he was still reusing stuff he had dreamed up as a schoolboy.
I disagree - his quick interjections hold the moment - otherwise Peter would die a death on stage. There's a hidden art to a great set up that still mystifies me. In my next book called "The Art of the Set Up" we try explore this but not very well.
Every line from Cook is comical, his genius is yet to be surpassed or even equalled .

i remember when i first saw it i was almost in tears the alan latchley character, my stomach was aching, comic genius
A superbly well observed character. A sort of mash-up of Brian Clough, Bob Paisley and Bobby Robson.
An absolute genius 👏
Hilarious..Peter was superb in everything he did!
Brilliant . Missed but not forgotten
Peter Cook is looking so well here. I miss his brilliant comedy
Part of his best work ever..thanks
The legendary Alan Latchley. So much wisdom. I mean, for a Scunny man. Obviously. A lot of wisdom and heart, considering he was from Scunny.
You sound like a Hartleypool man, yourself.
One word brilliant!!!
Wow this is from 1993 , 30 years ago. Where does the time go? This was repeated on Channel 4 as a tribute shortly after Cook's death in January 1995.
No words for the talent of Peter Cook!
The best manager we never had
Absolutely 💯 genius! 😅😅😂
Pure and unadulterated genius.
Never to bee forgotten. 😅😅😅😅😅😅

Great stuff
Also the Rock star that had been to the Henry Ford clinic
Peter Cook for England manager.
Paul Whitehouse has 'borrowed' a lot of stuff from Cook

7:32 catch that smile :)
he just knew that he'd really done a special sketch again
and people say cook was a bad actor

Peron or Braun?
Beautiful, it would be perfect/truthful if you didn't know.... : )
Rely on rebounds … 😁😁😁
Why have you misspelled Clive?
In all these years I have never noticed 😄.
I have just corrected them..
Thanks
Alan Latchley look's a lot like Donald Trump.
Clive Anderson was an awful host!!
