I got one of the worst injuries of my life doing crossfit. The trainer would not let me stop until every rep was completed and the workout was done. My back was in excruciating pain but I figured it was just the intensity of the workout paired with not having been in the gym for a while. That was not the case, 3 days later I was told I had herniated my l4 and l5 spinal discs.

Not all weights have to be super heavy to cause an injury, if it's too heavy for you to lift and try to force it with poor form, that's enough, especially if the back is involved

@@abuck7909 Those are gloves not straps. You also don't need to ditch the weight on failure on an overhead press. This isn't a squat where you cant lift yourself up. This is a press where even if you fail you can safely lower it to your clavicle.
Emi needs to fire her trainer. Her technique was terrible, and the weight was obviously too much. She's going to get injured working with these idiots.
Always start with just the bar then get used to using techniques. The bar is like 25 to 45 pounds. So it's a good start weight. Then slowly lift using about 15 percent of your body Wright, then go up about 5 percent each month.
The wrists are one thing, but I'm way more concerned about her shoulders. I had 14 months of experience and still fucked up my shoulder doing unsafe overhead presses. I was out of commission for 5 weeks. Genuinely, there is no reason a complete beginner should be doing clean and jerks with weight. That exercise requires pristine form.

I just remember seeing a video of her a little while back not being able to do one rep of a few different body weight exercises (think it was dips and pull-ups), and if she’s still somewhere near that level it’s probably not a good idea to be attempting a clean.

Every CrossFit gym is different. Know your body and don't let someone force you to do anything. Currently in CrossFit for over 8 months and I feel amazing.

Form over weight. I get if you're just playing around, but as you increase weight, form becomes more and more important in order to prevent hurting yourself. And you just don't hit the targeted muscles like you're supposed to if you don't have good form.
