    You know, I just remembered, we had to buy World of Warcraft… pay $40-60 for every expansion (there are many) and pay $15 a month… kids these days have no idea! 🤣

    Honestly the big issue is just how repetitive the grinds are, with Russian fishing 4 its 300-500 hours of just bream fishing to get a decent Carp fishing setup for the midgame, and while Fishing planet is better it still has major issues with alot of species paying you basically nothing. This is also where The Angler does well as you can get enough money for setups by catching most species in the game.

    As a FP and The Angler player imo FP is overall better (physics, fighting, amount of fish, gear etc) but I hate needing to pay to get a license and travel (I kinda understand the travel price but definately hate it, i mean you already grind a lot to unlock and still need to pay for it and it isn't cheap), and I love The Angler because of the graphics and the freedom to explore all the map (by boat, jeep or foot) and you dont need to pay anything to change from a map to another, also you can get money and xp by doing other activities other than just fishing. Both games are awesome but both have their pros and cons.

    Hello, I love your channel and how interested you are in gaming news, and I liked how you explained to some people that the game gives you two options: either Grind or DLC. I've already purchased 3 DLCs, Amazon, Blue Crab, and Congo, and enjoyed them, but I'm wondering why the ocean map took so long? Sorry, my English is a little bad😅

    • @BoAngles

      In the last ocean update video they explained that the ocean map has required so much work, it would have been easier to make an entirely new game than to create this 1 fishing location.

    I haven't fished in real life. I didn't even know how to set up a rod at first, but the developers must be doing something right when I'm addicted to the game. The objective and enjoyment is to move forward little by little. My least favorite aspect of the game is the cost of repairs. Does the equipment degrade that much in real life? I don't understand so much complaint for a game that you can play without paying money. If you are in a hurry you pay and if you are not you don't. It's a choice.

    Good video, Bo! The ads in Fishing Planet really do get on my nerves. I noticed recently they don't even have a "close" button on them anymore - just a "buy" and "more details" button. It's gotten pretty obnoxious. I would happily pay a subscription like I do in FFXIV if it meant no more ads and always having premium.

I love to fish but unfortunately I can not do it in real life anymore. I hope they give someone like me the chance to Beta test the ocean map. I think it’s important to point out that you can go from level 1 to level 80 without EVER paying a single penny. Granted it will probably take your unborn grandchild to get you there but it’s possible.
    One of my biggest complaints is from when I was a newbie and had no idea how to play the game. They should include some kind of rewatchable tutorial to give stupid people like me some hint as to what to do at the early stages.

      On tutorial, absolutely. I played FP once for a couple days, played some or all of the tutorial (don't remember), and then life happened. Probably more than a year went by, I remembered FP and thought "Hey,I wanna play that again!" NO TUTORIAL FOR YOU!! It's ridiculous... I'm a 47 year old man, still pretty sharp but I've lost the desire to struggle through HOWTOs, guides, TH-cam videos... I want to see the GAME TUTORIAL again. I can't think of one damn game in existence, other than FP, that only lets you play tutorial once, AND doesn't let you make new accounts (at least on Steam.) So once in awhile, I remember FP, reinstall it, and then remember why I never played it more than a few days: I forgot how to play. And no, I'm not doing "homework", I just don't have it in me anymore.

    Not sure switching to a subscription based model during the rise of subscription fatigue in consumers would be a particularly good move but I have also seen that model give the player base incredibly vetoing power over changes the company would make. We just passed the 1 year anniversary of the Dungeons and Dragons community vetoing Wizards of the Coast's move to change their gaming license from an open license to a license that would give the company power to strong arm any creator or company that used their product in their own by cancelling their subscription to D&D One in droves. The effect was immediate and beautiful. (It also gave my preferred TTRPG company it's best year of sales ever so that was a win for me)
    So, I guess I am pro subscription. Talked myself out of being against it by typing up this monstrous run on of a post.

    I really enjoy the grind of FP. The higher levels do get annoying but it’s still fun and I love to hop spots to lower level areas just to cure the boredom of grinding. My only real complaint is that you can’t link accounts. I used to mainly play on my phone and got to almost lvl 50. Recently started on my Xbox and don’t want to grind back to that. Other than that I love FP and the variety of fish and places to go.

    Fishing planet has the best gameplay of all fishing games available right now and I love it and don’t mind that they have “premium” and DLC to buy. I agree with your sub idea. I feel the main thing new players face with fishing planet is how low the value of stuff you get for the $$ you spend. I like grinding but you can tell it is extremely slow even with premium time and the DLCs are pushed more as “limited time large xp boosts” when they should just be “level boosts” similar to other free games or mmos like wow.

    I agree and disagree with some of your thoughts. But overall, great video! It opens up ideas and opportunities for the future of Fishing Games. But at the current state of Fishing Games, I believe they have it right. DLCs, Premium, Subscriptions, micro transactions are the way the Game Developers make money. The fact the game is free and can be free to play is already a bargain for one of the best Fishing Simulators out there. If they get rid of Micro Transactions, Subscriptions, or DLCs, they wont make any money to support their game in the future or long run. Call of The Wild Angler is different, you have to pay $30 USD to play, and still have to buy DLCs, I believe they got it wrong, hence their low player base. Overall, great video, and great ideas! - J.O.E Gaming YT

      @@BoAngles You're basically saying you want Fishing Games to be an RPG with boss fights and etc. That doesn't even make sense imo. Its a Fishing Simulator, not RPG simulator. You're trying to combine WoW or Osrs in to Fishing Theme, which doesn't even sound right. I think i understood it right. Grouping up with other players to take down a Boss Fish? Eventually once every catches that "boss fish" that content will be dead, just like every other RPG. Once you get done with that dungeon or trial and get the Gear you're looking for, why go back? I understand what you're trying to say. But imo, doesn't sound right.

    im sorta new to the game. im lvl 33 atm but only been playing 3 weeks. but i like the idea of paying more but having a better way to understand the game. as someone that grew up fishing catfish etc that isnt a issue for me. but when going to all these other places it has take just about as much time in research to play the game. and i did even buy a few dlc or packs idk what to call them but the rods were so over powered etc it wasnt what i actually needed. i feel like a nerd with a word doc using "snipping tool" to imput yours and other youtubers set ups into the word doc with titles for each location. and even going to reddit and just the internet in general to understand what i need. all that being said it is a very fun game and look forward to playing it every day till well you know all games end or we move on to something else. but it has been a blast for the last 3 weeks playing and getting over the frustration to figure out what works for you.

    I like the game alot and Im fine with the level gating. If I had any kind of gripe it would be the missions. I wish they had more doable missions at lower levels but many of them are too expensive to jump around to 4 different fisheries and have to buy 4 different licenses just to try to catch a redear sunfish to complete a mission.

    The problem is money skips time, but getting lost in time is the best part of life. Once the MMO's start being "pay to win" (or progress for that matter), it just means that you can't win or keep up with your friends unless you have money and real life money is a problem so that's why we game in the first place, to get away from it. It ruins the experience.

      I have plenty of memories stored away playing hours on end with friends in WoW. A standard monthly subscription allows for that, to not 'waste time grinding,' which is time we cannot get back or make more of, but supply the developers with monthly income that keeps the game improving and growing, while enjoying the game and completing missions and challenges - dungeons, etc. to move forward in level instead of grinding.

      Whether its MMORPG or not, please care about your fan base that you built, dont lose it. Once there's another fishing game out who do have these features like beach fishing, ocean, realistic fish fighting, without having a couple of hundred of hours grinding just to have fun and then keep buying locations and fixing equipment, what will you do to keep that fan base? I love fishing planet and i know you guys get alot of hate with the buying, grinding, fixing equipment, but if i were to buy stuff and it not break and paying to fix it i would play the game more, and the grinding, if i got to level 80 fast and i had everything in the game, i would not just be like im done lets try a new game, id play it more than i would now. more people who play fishing planet would prefer it over the current state now. I'm not hating, but its just an idea. would you rather have happy players or upset players who have no other games to play that is on the level of fishing planet but having to grind day in and day out while having jobs and other stuff they have going on just to have fun. I'm no statistic analysis nor know how to market a game but if i did have a game out, id make it for the players, not the money. Comically, the biggest complaint about most RPGs is the repetitive grinding. I don't mind earning my way through a game, but Fishing Planet does get pretty slow after level 40. I went from playing daily to weekly because it feels so repetitive until you unlock a new lake or finally earn enough money to buy a new setup. Now I only play daily when there is an event going on.
    There are some things they could do to lessen the grind, like letting us catch monsters multiple times so we could try for records or having weekly goals to catch certain fish to gain additional money and XP. 🤔

As developers have to make money to keep developing the game further.
    Also hate the ads to buy packs congratulations you have gained a level and unlocked this, then a window to buy a pack for $35.

    A monthly charge?
    I came across FP after my spinal surgery last year.
    I became disabled and until surgery was having issues walking.
    The game gave me an escape and took my mind off real life issues and was great.
    I buy premium (PSN)when I am able to as with the rising cost of things we had to drop some of our streaming services and now talk of charging a monthly fee to continue what i enjoy with this game?
    PSN has made it almost impossible for people such as myself that have been gaming for years and now I find out PSN is requiring a premium membership in order to play games online with friends?
    You spend $80-$100 per game now days and then they want more money to go online?
    The way FO is set up,,,yes it can get tedious and monotonous having to grind to level up l, however while doing so you are gaining knowledge of the game, lures,bite times,weather patterns etc
    If FO does go to a monthly membership in order to continue playing I am afraid I will have to step away as it would be an unnecessary bill which I wouldn't be able to afford.
    I enjoy the game and hope and pray I will be able to continue playing.
    Please consider people like myself before making such a requirement to play such a great game.

      Hello - an interesting point! I feel like the issue is - a lot of people have never played Runescape! So it's hard to picture a system set up this way. You would still be able to reach the highest level in the game playing free-to-play. You simply wouldn't have access to all of the features without paying the developers for the work they've put in.
      So, in a way, you're asking developers to consider working for free, to allow for people to continue playing without paying for anything.

    I use to play fishing planet year's ago hit about lvl 40 but got bored of repetitive grind catching the same fish over and over again, started recently playing russian fishing 4 and the grind is much worse, it literally took me around 17 hour's to make it almost to lvl 10 and don't have enough money to buy a decent low end set-up for a decent size fish over 2kg, it's the same repetitive fishing over and over again to sell to the cafe or fishery, and the fisheries give you next to nothing for the size fish you can catch when first starting off, it took boring and doesn't have that fun fight feel like fishing planet has, similar but not as rewarding, or run.

      exactly... i call it pay to lose, the winners are those of us who spend nothing, or very little, get all the goodies from the game and receive far more value from it. There's this "must get there first" attitude which simply means you miss out on a lot of entertainment, and quite often in-game knowledge. It's the journey that's the fun part of most of these games, not the destination.

    Sorry Bo - I disagree with you on this. 1 Stretching the definition of a MMORPG is a bit of stretching the reasoning to match the conclusion. Your argument is essentially that we are role playing in FP can be applied to just about all computer games. Thats plainly not the case MMORPGs are a distinct sector of the gaming world. Secondly FP has it just about right - or did. The principle behind FP is that you can achieve the top by playing it for free, but you can get their a bit easier with Premium. Like User-hx I am disabled and retired. FP has given me the opportunity to fish when I couldn't do so IRL. I have though bought premium and did so of my own will - choosing to give up other stuff for it. However, If the game had its better levels behind a paywall, I would look at it a different way and probably would not play it at all. What would be the point if you cant get to the top without paying.

    • @BoAngles
      @BoAngles  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey, RoznWheelz! I disagree that my description of an MMORPG in the video can somehow be a blanket description for all computer games. I gave 3 examples in the video where I had shown that many games follow a storyline, however Fishing Planet does not. The game is - a fishing game, where you start at level one, and the only real goal to the game (besides challenges)... is to reach the last level - by any means necessary; including paying your way to the end. You are the 'angler,' it is your role to play, and there are many other people in the world with you... it is an MMORPG, if not just a very simple one.
      And I by no means wish for the devs to put 'the better levels (locations/gear?)' behind a paywall. Many people have fantastic experiences playing Runescape completely free-to-play, including myself. However, to unlock all the skills and all the quests/areas to explore, you must pay for the monthly membership. Runescape has, for many years, been very successful with this pay structure. You would - in theory, be able to play the game for free, even reaching the level cap, completely on those free locations - some of which could be 'better' than the membership locations depending on the fish species in the locations. However, like Fishing Planet is now, you would need to put in quite the grind; while paying the membership (on a monthly $5 basis) would allow you to play new locations, have access to more missions/dungeons, as well as have a better scale of exp and money gain overall, allowing you to grow in level faster than if you stayed on the locations before the $5/month membership.

    • @RodznWheelz
      @RodznWheelz 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BoAngles Well at least we can agree to disagree! Reaching the top level for that free location while those who pay for it can go higher still is not being able to reach the top of the game.
      Yes it is quite the grind - Ive done it in part - I was level 58 or so before I went premium and bought an NPC . So i did the hard bit free... and due to my own incompetence managed around level 22 to run out of funds and had to grind from Texas up again! Obviously it is a lot easier with Premium - but as things are, those who cant afford to pay for what is essentially a luxury can still get to level 80 and beyond.

    • @BoAngles
      @BoAngles  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RodznWheelz You've confused me once again! Lol, if it's a game that allows you to go from level 1-80... you can do that whether you're playing free, or with a membership. But - look at the story you've created from going through the game your own way! That's a story only you have, which is pretty cool. That's the neat thing about RPG's.

    Your going off a whole different category of games fishing planet is a vary unique so I don’t think that would work at all like if there was no grind then there would be no incentive to keep going and I mean they have to make money like yea the grind is a pain in the bit but premium is not even that expensive and having one part of the game and paying for the rest that’s not free to play that is like a test game I forgot what there called but that’s just my opinion

    • @BoAngles
      @BoAngles  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd give it some more thought - I can guarantee I've thought about this more than most people at this point, lol. I've talked with multiple developers, I've looked at multiple similar games with similar game mechanics... it seems like the most logical way to move forward.

    • @BoAngles
      @BoAngles  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Additionally - it may not be as unique as you may think! It is at its core - an RPG. An MMORPG. About fishing... There are many games like it, just not about fishing! If anything, Fishing Planet is much more simple than other RPG's and MMORPG's on the market. And in reference to the grind, imagine the difference between me saying - "hey, here is a forest... you just go chop wood until I tell you to stop." vs. me saying, "hey, here is a forest, we need wood for a cabin, and to do that, we need 20 logs at 12" diameter." That is the difference between grinding and questing. One is endless, monotonous... a grind. Where as the other allows you to picture how much you need to move forward, therefore seeming like a manageable goal.

    Paying $5 for maps is just not smart at all. maybe for the company, but for the players thats just a big F you. Keep the premium and make the Maps a 1 time payment so we dont spend $60 every year just to fish on a map just to grind to fix our equipment.

      @@ReelRebelsLLC it’s understandable, but that’s the thing, it’s not just a highly realistic first person online multiplayer fishing simulator… it’s an MMO. No one is recognizing it- and there’s nothing wrong with it! Some of my favorite experiences in gaming involve doing challenges with other real people within a game- and that’s where fishing planet lacks a bit. Find a way for people to work together in real time- if some people don’t want to participate in it, that’s fine- but give the option. If there’s PVP, there can be PVE, and beyond the clans or groups.
      I’m tired of the ads - especially when I pay for premium, and I hate the grinding as well. If I’m paying $60 a year for premium, I don’t want ads and I don’t want grinding, and that’s what a consistent subscription provides for these developers- a steady income stream that allows them to invest more time into meaningful gameplay.

I don't necessarily mind the grind but I don't see why a sandbox type mode could not work. Some people have no interest in grinding their life away just to get to the high level areas and just want to fish. Plenty of games have a story mode or w/e where the DLCs make the money specifically the Jurassic World or Planet Zoo type games. Hell, if I had to pay for a standalone mode just for that I would.

      Yes, we're well aware of the carp hook fiasco - we've made jokes about it from day 1. But, it keeps the game simple. "Player friendly" as some people would call it, scaling up the hook for the size of the fish.

    • @600f4
      @600f4 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      so what is player friendly? Yes, as someone who was carping at Savay and other Colne valley lakes in the early 80's , yes we were using size 4's and 8lb line most of the time. That said, big liberties have to be taken with fishing games, even the so-called sims, otherwise nobody would play them. People think they want a sim, but they often find out they don't, just take a look at all those who "want" a flight sim, they download dcs and never play again after a week or 2.
