    I never realized how complex these oil rigs are! There’s so much going on behind the scenes.

      Increase production increases because accidents like Piper Alpha that ended up killing. I forget how many but it was a lot and they want to make sure that kind of stuff never happens again.

    Work on the rigs in the gulf since I was 18 but retired at 28 I was in a helicopter crash on the way out to the platform. It broke my back and crushed part of the spinal cord. It’s a great job where someone with just a high school degree can make over 100 grand a year only working 6 months out the year. 14 days on and 14 days off. Cooks with the best groceries any candy bar or ice cream you want. Pool tables ping pong tables card tables. It’s a great job. I miss it.

      The helicopter accident is just that an accident that can happen anywhere! Before that the helicopter company had a Million flight hours with no loss time accidents. Shit happens and I break my back for my family.

      @@frostystoneman3273 it was a great job. And the oil and helicopter companies took very good care of me and my family I can’t say a bad word about them.

    The technologies which where developed for offshore oil rigs could also be used repurposed for offshore Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) power plants.

    Hold your horses, dude! "WEIGHING MILLIONS OF TONS..!" is either overkill in bad research or confusion with pounds, eventually?!

    • @Sajuuk
      @Sajuuk หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The information is correct: Gulfaks C weighs 1.5 million tons and is the heaviest object that has been moved.
      Google is your friend.

    • @roccofalconi
      @roccofalconi หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Sajuuk It's 870.000 tons. Still massively exaggerated, dude! Average oil-rig is around 30.000 tons. And Google was my friend before content-creators became sassy!

    • @Sajuuk
      @Sajuuk หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@roccofalconi
      The video refers to it's displacement "weight", not dry weight, while being towed. It's displacement during its tow to the Gullfaks field in the Norwegian North Sea, was between 1.4 and 1.5 million tonnes at 210 m tow draft.
      The Troll A platform likewise displaces 1.2 million tonnes.
      Gulfaks C and Troll A are GBS, not traditional oil rigs that's why they displace/weigh so much.
      The Pioneering Spirit is a crane ship that reaches 1 million tonnes at full load.
      The Knock Nevis supertanker had a displacement of around 565,000 tons when fully loaded.
      If 1.5 million tons isn't enough for you, go build your own 😉

      Ships get effected by the waves which make drilling more difficult.
      The oil rig platforms don’t get effected by the wave and can continue drilling throughout bad weather. 😉
