No the second generation began with the first supersonic fighters. That was the F-100 and the MiG-19... Third generation was the Mach 2 fighters like the F-104, F-4, and MiG-21, MiG-23, MiG-25, 4th generation was the F-14, F-15, F-16, F-18, MiG-29, MiG-33, and the Su-27...

@@CH-pv2rzgeneration its not acording to the speed of the jet. The first migs til 1956( mig 21f13) didnt even have a radar for night flights. They were too absolete even in the 60's.

Not according to the Russians who tested captured F-5As and F-5Es against both the MiG-19 and the MiG-21 and found the F-5 to be superior to both in close air combat...
