    Thanks for the great video. I am a Pentax K70 user, and I feel I have all the benefits of at least the Sony A7III (Pixel shift, IBIS, no anti-aliasing filter, etc.). However, I do want to make a statement regarding your issue with cropping an image. Do you know you can "grow" an image? Sometimes I have to crop my images, which result in lower than desired resolution. By scaling my cropped image by 10% , sometimes successively (sometimes up to 5 times), I can obtain the desired higher resolution, without virtually any loss of quality.

    Unfortunately, the internet is full of anonymous smarta$$es that like to leave rude comments for no apparent reason. You clearly stated the reasons for your decision and hopefully nobody will feel the need to be a jerk and spout off about 'why you're wrong'. I get so sick of the rude morons on the internet and anytime one comes across my videos and feels the need to be an a**, I block them instantly and forget about it. I'm not inclined to leave their comments online.

    i know what you mean about the hiking weight, we did the half dome at yosemite in 2015 and found the weight factor meant allot and did a 5300 feet of elevation change and a return days end of 17 miles of hiking and 15/16 hrs later we returned home, the extra 2 lens i took i did not use and just tires you out more, especially in the 103 degree heat that day. plus we ran out of water and did take more than the recommended amount. Good video, i like my sony gear,like you i am a hobbyist and am continuing to learn.

    I was faced with the same decision. I have shot Canon for the past 10 years. I had a 5Dmkiii and switched to the Sony A7riii as well. It was a difficult decision but now that I have been shooting the Sony for 3 months I am happy with the decision. Great Vid...

      Totally there with you. I just need to find money to start switching to a Sony native lens, lol

      That is when you will realize you could have easily purchased the 1Dx2 while keeping your great Canon lens.

    • @jswright1975
      @jswright1975 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anthony Morales I considered that option...actually rented both cameras before deciding on the Sony A7riii. I mainly shoot landscapes and in my opinion the Sony outshines the 1DX2. That’s just m opinion though. If I was shooting sports then I would have chosen the 1DX2.

      Megapixels do make a difference...for what you want the camera you made the right choice. I don't know if you had a chance to try the 5D4 but it is definetely a big step up from the 5D3 in terms of megapixels, sharpness, dynamic range. I am just saying, not trying to push it on anyone, you should always spend your money where you feel is best. Enjoy your camera. BTW, the 7D2 is not so great for landscape, I have one and it is strictly for wildlife and sports.

    they are both awesome. i have both a73 and a7r3. if they were both at the same $2000 price point i would get two a7r3 because of the megapixel advantage if needed. i shoot half of it during weddings. 18mp which is fine for events. i have commercial gigs sometimes that ask for high MP count which i can deliver if needed. plus no AA filter is a plus hehe I also had a sony A9 which i switched from canon last year. sold my A9 for the a73 and a7r3 combo. cool video keep it up!

    Hello Jun, thanks for the helpful review. It seems that the smaller but still effective Sony Mirrorless camera was a good choice for you, especially for shooting motorcyles and your travel shots. I was wondering, if you were a video editor or post-producer ,and you needed to come up with client video spots, do you think the Sony a7ii would be a better choice for shooting video? and still get that 'cinematic look' that Canon DSLR shooters so like, and with all that Canon glass that lends itself so well to creating that kind of video?

      Paul Mansfield Thanks for watching. I really have no idea. I’m not a video person at all so never really use the cameras for videos

  • @boss133749
    @boss133749 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can set the video to record at 1 FPS, which effectively is a time lapse (although you can't control the intervals)

    • @sideroist8183
      @sideroist8183  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for brining that up; however for a proper long term time-lapse, a 1fps shot is nowhere enough and it would exhaust the battery so quickly. The fastest time lapse I shoot is 1 frame per every 20 mins, all the way to 1 an hour, so I wouldn't really consider that a practical time lapse function.

    If you are going Sony then the A7a3 would be my pick for landscape photography. Now, having that said, my 5D4 is an awesome camera in which Canon greatly improve the dynamic range tremendously making it a none issue. Sharpness is great considering it has an AA filter. You would be fine with either camera for the purpose you want it. I do prefer the Canon for portrait.

    Thank you for your review! May I ask why didn't you consider the A9? (Just considering specs and not price)

    • @sideroist8183
      @sideroist8183  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sony a9 is only 24mp and it's $1000 more expensive than the a7rIII. They are meant to be for completely different purposes.

    Hi good review on Sony A7lll and A7Rlll. I have been looking into switching to Sony merely for video purposes. I have Canon L series lenses that I would not like to part with. There is no convincing video on Sony with Canon glass where it still maintains its auto focus fully functional. Any suggestions please

    • @sideroist8183
      @sideroist8183  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The adapoter like the metabones do allow auto focusing and in general they do work well; however, they are slower and can be a bit glitchy t times. So there really isn't a perfect solution for that as of now.

      @sideroist8183  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      don't know what everyone else says, but I would still have bought the A73 over any Canon DSLRs for landscape. I think that's an amazing camera.

    • @inquisitvem6723
      @inquisitvem6723 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i meant many said to get the A7RIII instead of A73 due to the 42mp, but there is a vid that shows not much difference. i guess the benefit of a7R3 is that you can crop and not miss a beat.

      yea, it's not really about the quality of the image, but the ability to crop into the image without loosing resolution for the use of the image.

    Hi, this new bracket will solve the ergonomics issue and still give you tripod mounting features.

      Yes I saw that and it looks great. However, I think I'd prefer to keep the size small and sacrifice the comfort a little bit. Given I'll primarily use this on a tripod. THanks!

    Any regrets?

    • @sideroist8183
      @sideroist8183  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, other than lenses. Even with my metabones adaptor, my canon lenses don't work as well so I'll need to eventually get Sony lenses and it's not cheap. Other than that, I love it. Just from the size and weight, it's crazy how heavy my Canon 7D feels after using my Sony for a short time.
      I got used to the menu and dials sooner than I thought I would, so that wan't too big of a hurtle.

    Ok this could be shortened greatly. After 5mins into the video & the only advantage covered is the weight, I gave up. I'm positive you have gems of info in here but its just too long when trying to quickly get info from reviews.
