I really hate the type of reasoning whereby somebody tries to convince you of a fact because "other" people who are well regarded believe the point that you are trying to convince your audience of. Let me give you some examples "99% of scientists agree on the cause of climate change", "all the best doctors agree that the vaccines are safe", "this is the most popular model that all our customers love", "the story of the resurrection is true because some of the most inspiring and intelligent people of our time believe it to be so". If you are going to present something as fact then provide evidence, if you have no evidence then say it's a matter of faith but if you only have circumstantial evidence then present the circumstantial evidence. However do not be ask your audience to believe something as fact because someone else believes it to be fact and therefore by your reasoning then must be true. Give your audience's intellect a little more credit than that. You do more harm to Christianity than good by doing this.

How is it an assumption? U can check historians who never believed JESUS. Don’t be lazy, read these historians account n u will know he birth, his walk on earth, his death and resurrection are all true.

Why is it that we think humans landed on the moon and came back to the Earth? Because we had all the knowledge to do it. Neil Armstrong was the best pilot of jets. Buzz Aldrin had a PhD from MIT in orbital Mechanics. The Scientists and Engineers had the knowledge and money to fly space ships and rockets.

Why do we think that the Stories of Star Trek are not true? Because we don't know anything about warp drive star ships, photon torpedoes', transporters, etc.. We don't have star charts of where there might be beings that are Vulcans and look like Mr Spock.

Anybody that can turn a 3 day old stinky body to new again would know about the human body and medical care for it. Did Jesus of Christianity say anything that we can use about skin, the heart, the lungs, muscles, cells, blood, etc.. Did Jesus tell us about CPR? Did Jesus tell us about how to do Science, so we can learn about the natural world and put that knowledge to good use?

All Jesus gives us is Story Magic. Humans living 2,000 years ago would not be able to create stories about health care in the natural world. Humans creating stories from their minds and imaginations could only create stories about the Gods that can do miracles. Just like Thomas Jefferson wrote, 'Laws of Nature and of Nature's God.' The human created Story Gods just are not true. Jesus of Christianity and the stories of Christianity are more like the stories of Star Trek and not like the stories of humans landing on the moon and coming back to the Earth. The Christian stories use Theme, Plot, Characters, Setting, Conflict, Point of View, Tone and Style.

@@WillPower46I see this presentation as an informative way of learning whereby in such study tactics the student is not forced the teachers narrative, but rather still has his or her choice to decide what they believe. The same can be said for the LGBTQ community. It's best to calmly and rational discuss the literature, or history of the group, where it's been and where it's headed. Convincing crowds through peaceful, friendly demonstrations of were here, were qu**r, don't mean any harm, just wanted out of the closet, not here to ruffle any feathers or indoctrinate your kids, just minding our own gay business type attitude about it all, because you're absolutely right, a person should never be force fed to believe a narrative or taboo laced agenda down their throats with the threat of being chastised and labeled as some kind of phobia if they don't get on board Sodom and Gomorrah's Love Boat.

@@WillPower46your argument falls flat as tire without air as your reasoning is flawed. The idea is “this person investigated and came to faith, why don’t you investigate?” It seems you think Christianity is selling a product on TV. How about this. Free offer! Jesus suffered and died for you to have restored communion with God and eternal life is yours.

Why ? There have been many in history with the same claim I'm sure you haven't researched . All part of very powerful religions at the time before christianity . All of the stories were written after he died so these were people just writing a story not who were actually there. And we can't even begin to verify who even wrote them . And there is much more. But still you never had doubt ? Then your no different from anyone related to all the different religions today with the same type of claims I'm sure you don't believe . Just thought id add a little knowledge and common sense to it

Bingo! You said the magic word.....you are a "believer." You can say that you believe the most preposterous things and still, your statement is always true. However, the first short sentence came unaccompanied by the magic phrase "I believe that" (he is risen), and so stands as a meaningless unsubstantiated claim.

@@MartyHarrison-cx4gu @MartyHarrison-cx4gu Sean McDowell is explaining in this conversation with Kirk Cameron why it's reasonable to believe that Jesus rose from the dead and his logic seems pretty good to me. If your objection is that that would be a miracle and miracles can't happen then I don't know how you can substantiate that. Isn't the existence of this universe just one of a number of "miracles" we have to accept have happened?
It seems to me that we live in a miraculous universe, and that our lives are themselves, the fact that we are "alive", our consciousness, that we think and feel, these also are miracles. Are you saying that you have natural explanations for how those can happen?

    • @MartyHarrison-cx4gu

@@anthonycook8703 It would be nice if just once I didn't get a typical believer response that lacked common sense and logic which religion just zaps out of people because using it shows how ridiculous the claims are .
I will help you out a bit though to show how ridiculous your reply was. First we know a universe exit we observe it , we can see it , measure it to a degree . All of these we cannot do with a claim like someone was raised from the dead. There have been many claims about this far before christianity was even a thought . Have you actually read the whole Bible ? There are multiple stories about where Jesus was even born , Mathew and Luke tell a complete different story but somehow you believed the incredible claim simple because it written lol. we have stories about figures in the Wild West that people believe were true but far from it . If your are okay with I don't know how something happened so Ill just claim of the 2500 goods proposed to be true just so happens my version did it all instead of saying , We just don't know yet , just like when people were worshiping Zeus and Apollo not understanding what made thunder of many other natural acts , then your the one in a delusion my friend. Biggest difference you don't understand between people like you and people like is people like me care if what they believe in is true . people like you just care about how it makes you feel ! So much else but ill stop there

We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in His grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed His life, shedding His blood.
This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when He held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for He was looking ahead and including them in what He would do in this present time.
God did this to demonstrate His righteousness, for He Himself is fair and just, and He makes sinners right in His sight when they believe in Jesus.
There is only one God, and He makes people right with Himself only by faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles.”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:22-26, 30‬ ‭…
BECAUSE JESUS CHRIST ROSE FROM THE DEAD, YOU CAN HAVE …
A LIVING SAVIOR - “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9
A DIVINE MEDIATOR - “Christ that died … is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” Romans 8:34
AN UNDYING PROMISE - “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” John 11:25

You seem unable to discern the difference between claims and statements of truth. What you have written are unsubstantiated claims which require evidence for corroboration. They are exactly like a witness at a trial who says, "Jehrica is guilty; this is true because I believe it." Not the testimony you want, is it?

Thank you for this message it gives me hope. I want to give up! But I will continue to trust God! Having faith even in my time of deep despair. I lost my job as a social worker because I refused the vaccine. I refused due to my already failing health. Heart disease and lupus. I’m on a ton of medications already. Including blood thinners. I was denied my medical/religious exemption from Forsyth hospital. Since losing my job I’ve been struggling to provide for myself and my two children. I’m so overwhelmed because both of my boys are autistic. So they require a lot out of me. My husband passed away three years ago so I’m all alone. I’m so down and depressed. I have been called horrible names and mocked because of my circumstances. It’s crazy ppl are denying that this is happening. This month me and my boys are facing homelessness. Every month is a struggle. But I have so much faith that God will provide for me and my children FAITH OVER FEAR.

This is what was amazing, they set up that "religious exemption" clause and yet they ignored it completely, never actually giving a religious exemption, always turned down. The coach of the Wash St cougars football team, they denied his religious exemption and fired him, ruing his life, many police and firemen were cut, same thing for simply not wanting to take an unproven vaccine. Can you get into some nurse training program? I would think you would qualify for free tuition. During the pandemic there was a sign I saw on the side of the road which said the same thing you said about faith instead of fear, yet we let fear rule us for those years.

God always does the unexpected. Just like when He sent Jesus as Savior, He wasn't a violent Savior but One full of love. The women discovering the empty tombs. God has the reasons He does what He does. If we think it is hard to be a follower now of Jesus Christ, it was so difficult to be in the Roman Empire and be a follower of the Lord. He is strategic and things happen for a reason. That is why after 2,000 years we still talk about Jesus and his ministry, death, and resurrection. There is still proof to back everything up 2,000 years later. I have never seen any other proof last so long. Praise God! Thank you Jesus for your saving power!

The earliest Christians didn't believe jesus was crucified

  • @resurrectionnerd
    @resurrectionnerd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Let's compare the ways the Resurrected Jesus is said to have been experienced according to the documents arranged in chronological order. As you're reading, ask yourself is this data more expected under the hypothesis of reliable eyewitness testimony vs the hypothesis of an evolving legend. The scholarly consensus dates the documents as follows:
    - Paul c. 50 CE - is the only firsthand report. He says the Risen Jesus "appeared" ὤφθη (1 Cor 15:5-8) and was experienced through "visions" and "revelations" - 2 Cor 12:1. The appearance to Paul was a vision/revelation *from heaven* - Gal. 1:12-16, Acts 26:19 (not a physical encounter with a revived corpse) and he makes no distinction between what he "saw" and what the others "saw" in 1 Cor 15:5-8 nor does he mention an intervening ascension between the appearances. This shows that early Christians accepted claims of "visions" (experiences that don't necessarily have anything to do with reality) as "Resurrection appearances." Paul nowhere gives any evidence of the Risen Christ being experienced in a more "physical" way which means you have to necessarily read in the *assumption* that the appearances were physical, from a later source that Paul nowhere corroborates. What Paul says in Phillipians 2:8-9, Rom. 8:34, and the sequential tradition preserved in Eph. 1:20 is consistent with the belief that Jesus went straight to heaven after the resurrection leaving no room for any physical earthly appearances. If this was the earliest belief then it follows that *all* of the "appearances" were believed to have been of the Exalted Christ in heaven and not physical earthly interactions with a revived corpse. He had a chance to mention the empty tomb in 1 Cor 15 when it would have greatly helped his argument but doesn't. Paul's order of appearances: Peter, the twelve, the 500, James, all the apostles, Paul. No location is mentioned.
    - Mark c. 70 CE - introduces the empty tomb but has no appearance report. Predicts Jesus will be "seen" in Galilee. The original ends at 16:8 where the women leave and tell no one. Mark's order of appearances: Not applicable.
    - Matthew c. 80 CE - has the women tell the disciples, contradicting Mark's ending, has some women grab Jesus' feet, then has an appearance in Galilee which "some doubt" - Mt. 28:17. Matthew also adds a descending angel, great earthquake, and a zombie apocalypse to spice things up. If these things actually happened then it's hard to believe the other gospel authors left them out, let alone any other contemporary source from the time period. Matthew's order of appearances: Two women, eleven disciples. The appearance to the women takes place near the tomb in Jerusalem while the appearance to the disciples happens on a mountain in Galilee.
    - Luke 85-95 CE - has the women immediately tell the disciples, contradicting Mark. Jesus appears in Jerusalem, not Galilee, contradicting Matthew's depiction and Mark's prediction. He appears to two people on the Emmaus Road who don't recognize him at first. Jesus then vanishes and suddenly appears to the disciples. This time Jesus is "not a spirit" but a "flesh and bone" body that gets inspected, eats fish, then floats to heaven while all the disciples watch - conspicuously missing from all the earlier reports. Luke omits any appearance to the women. Acts 1:3 adds the otherwise unattested claim that Jesus appeared over a period of 40 days and says Jesus provided "many convincing proofs he was alive" which shows the stories were apologetically motivated. Luke's order of appearances: Two on the Emmaus Road, Peter, rest of the eleven disciples. All appearances happen in Jerusalem.
    - John 90-110 CE - Jesus can now teleport through locked doors and we get the Doubting Thomas story where Jesus invites Thomas to poke him. This story has the apologetic purpose that if you just "believe without seeing" then you will be blessed. Jesus is also basically God in this gospel which represents another astonishing development. John's order of appearances: Mary Magdalene, eleven disciples, the disciples again plus Thomas, then to seven disciples. In John 20 the appearances happen in Jerusalem and in John 21 they happen near the Sea of Galilee on a fishing trip.
As you can see, these reports are inconsistent with one another and represent growth that's better explained as legendary accretion rather than actual history. If these were actual historical reports that were based on eyewitness testimony then we would expect more consistency than we actually get. None of the resurrection reports in the gospels even match Paul's appearance chronology in 1 Cor 15:5-8 and the later sources have amazing stories that are drastically different from and nowhere even mentioned in the earliest reports. The story evolves from Paul's spiritual/mystical Christ all the way up to literally touching a resurrected corpse that flies to heaven! Moreover, in Luke and John the stories have obvious apologetic motivations. So upon critically examining the evidence we can see the clear linear development that Christianity started with spiritual visionary experiences and evolved to the ever-changing physical encounters in the gospels (which are not firsthand reports).
If apologists want to claim this data is consistent with reliable eyewitness testimony then they need to provide other examples about the same event from history that grow in fantastic detail like the gospels do, yet are still regarded to be reliable historical documents. I maintain that this cannot be done. If attempted, they will immediately realize any other historical documents that grow like the gospels do will be legends.

Here is the difficulty we face as Christians -
this video, as often happens, is using the Bible to try and prove the resurrection of Christ.
But many of those we are trying to prove it to do not accept the Bible as a reliable source of information. So they immediately reject any proofs you present based on the Bible because they do not believe the Bible is true about anything.
So how do we provide "proof" to those who don't accept what the Bible says?
Here are a few ideas -
    - since many don't even believe that Jesus even existed we can use references from outside the Bible that confirm the existence of Jesus - such as the writings of Josephus who was not a Christian.
    - we can use the examples of the Apostles who were martyred for their trust in Christ
    - as Ray Comfort likes to do, we can use the law to show people they are sinners in need of a Savior and let God's Spirit work on their hearts to convince they of the truth
    - we can show them compassion in their time of need and God may use that to reach them
    - we can try to live a life of example that they notice and God uses that to help reach them
    - we can pray for them

I must say, I'm impressed that you've really taken an introspection here.
As for extrabiblical sources on the ressurrection, it's unfortunate that there isn't any. While there are some Roman sources indicating Jesus of Nazareth was perhaps a real person, no sources outside of the NT (which had been written 30 to 40 years after his death) claim Jesus of Nazareth rose from his grave.
Considering belief in the Son of God Rising from the Dead is perhaps the most important doctrine in Christianity, it's ironic that not even Roman records talk about a Jewish peasant that was executed and came back to life, walking about Jerusalem for 40 days along with others who allegedy rose from their tombs and were seen by many.
This is why skeptics have a hard time accepting the claim that he is Risen.

With Josephus its very ambiguous to which Christ he is referring to and to go from a few (possibly added later) sentences mentioning a local small cult following to a believing in a ressurection would take a leap of faith.
Matyrdom doesnt equal evidence if that is the case than the 9/11 terrorists or Japanese kamikaze pilots would be correct about their belief of America.
I am sorry Ray Comfort has a lot of sin in his life, but I dont believe sin is an actual concept as I dont believe in a god to sin against.

Also, atheism does not claim there are no gods, it is based on what is considered a lack of convincing evidence that there are gods while at the same time acknowleging there might be gods after all.
Josephus, like all the other numerous writers about jesus, was not a contemporary to jesus and like all the others only writes about jesus from the position of hearsay. In fact, there are no contemporaneous accounts of jesus in the bible or anywhere else, nothing from jesus himself, everything '' jesus said '' comes from people who never knew him, no artifacts, drawings, paintings, etc. -- seems to me jesus as man\god '' savior '' , considered the most important, influential person in history, should be supported by a lot better '' evidence '' than that.

-The Martyrdom also doesn’t help… because according to Sean himself there is only good evidence that 4 of the apostles actually died as martyrs… the accounts for the remaining apostles mostly consist of contradicting legends.
-Telling them that they are sinners is worthless because they don’t believe in the concept of sin.
So what is left is being a good example and helping them in time of need.

We all understand there are different debates surrounding the Testimonium Flavianim, but you have to understand the argument that is being made in the video, versus this “discredits his case” ridiculous comment you are making like you know more.

The argument is for the existence of a man named Jesus… the argument they are trying to make is that he rose from the dead.

People believe in Jesus for emotional reasons. The arguments are all terrible. We have known that at least since Hume. These apologists misrepresent data. Let’s just look at the first claim about women: 1. No one is saying that the disciples just made up a story. These tales grew up over time, probably a few years, with details being added to meet questions. The women form part of the story. No one ever said that women can’t be believed about anything 2. The Rabbinic writings on Judaism don’t function as a legal code. Rather they are a series of discussions and rulings more or less authoritative. It makes no sense to say ‘The Talmud says this’ for example, but rather something more like ‘In one of the Talmuds (there are two) Rabbi X said this in the name of Rabbi Y.’ Moreover, the rabbinic texts date from hundreds of years after the time of Jesus. 3. The women in the story do not give evidence in court, they merely say what they have seen, just as is reported frequently. This doesn’t mean they were right or wrong about what they saw, or that their words are accurately reported. 4. Even if one merely says that the women show that the claim wasn’t made up (as per N T Wright), that is not so. Women would be expected to be first attending a tomb, particularly if the body hadn’t been ‘purified’ yet. It’s part of the expected mourning ceremonies. Anyone making up a story at the time would have known that. The presence of the women adds to general versilimitude (I am not saying the story is made up in that fashion, merely that the fact they are women is irrelevant).
Similar mistakes are made by apologists on every topic. I could go through point by point.

The stupidity here is so thick that it hurts.
Women 'finding' the tomb empty would be exactly who I would depict in a STORY about someone rising from the dead. If the writers had men discovering the tomb then they would have to invent a reason as to why the men were even there. It you wrote a STORY that involved a body bring found in a park who would you invent to find the body, a man in a business suit or a woman in a jogging outfit? Sure the man might be more creditable but the woman is more likely to have a valid reason for finding the body. And during the time that the bible was written WOMEN and not men were the ones to doing the anointing. The WOMEN and not the men would have more reason to be there naturally.
The rest of his 'evidence' is even worst and none of it counts as evidence.
