Excellent reaction - and I think I could actually see the hairs on your arms standing up when Su hit her first "Hashire" at the end of the song. She sounds even better live.
Babymetal are truly unique and do things no other band can do. They also incorporate all different finds of metal in their songs from power to speed, black to death, Viking to prog and more and within some songs they will also mix other musical genres when you least expect it.
They are primarily a live performance act, their live shows range from small, intimate venues to spectacular arena shows with fire and flame and every time they are full of energy getting the audience fully involved so they are almost as much a part of the show as the band.
I will just add a bit more info on the name Babymetal as it confuses a lot of us in the west when we first hear it and we think all the wrong things. They adopted this name for a couple of reasons (and not because they were so young when they started):
    1) It signifies the birth of a new genre, kawaii-metal (or 'cute' as in adorable metal).
    2) It is a play on words. Babymetal and heavy metal are pronounced virtually the same in Japan - something like Bebimetaru and Hebimetaru - also when written in Japanese characters the difference is one tiny mark above the first character. If both are written in Katakana:
    ベビーメタル is Babymetal
    ヘビーメタル is Heavymetal

They are around since 2010. Originally established as a trio with Suzuka Nakamoto (aka. SU-METAL, lead vocals) and Yui Mizuno / Moa Kikuchi (YUIMETAL / MOAMETAL, backing vocals and dance) they were complemented by the end of 2013 by a backing band called Kami-Band (Band of Gods).
They already have four albums out. Two studio albums ("BABYMETAL" rel. 2014 and "Metal Resistance" rel. 2016) and two live albums ("Live at Budokan - Red Night Apocalypse" rel. 2014? and "Live at Wembley" rel. 2016). October this year they will release their third studio album. A double-album named "Metal Galaxy" (with many of featured artists by the way).

Very nice what you said about Su's voice! She's awesome, we all love her! I have been listening to them every single day for about two years now, and some songs still make me cry. Her voice is so beautiful, and she knows how to deliver the emotions as well.
Many people go through three stages when listening to their first three BABYMETAL songs: 1. WTF? 2. That's quite interesting, how do they make that work?. 3. Oh my god, I love it! I have the feeling you won't be an exception. :-)
The hand sign they are doing is actually a fox sign. They have some fun lore about the fox god sending them to earth to unite the world in Kawaii Metal. Sounds a bit strange, but in the end it's all about fun. And that's what they represent first and foremost, in my opinion. Few (Metal-) bands will make you smile like they do.
This is actually one of their less experimental songs, others combine Metal not just with J-Pop, but also EDM, Reggae, Ska, Hip Hop, Dubstep... They are never boring, no two songs sound the same.
But the best is yet to come: They are a phantastic live band! There's really nothing to criticize, every aspect of their live performances is awesome. I'm sure you'll agree once you have seen them. "Road of Resistance" is a good example to check out: th-cam.com/video/zTEYUFgLveY/w-d-xo.html. Looking forward to accompanying you on your journey!

BABYMETAL are the biggest metal group from Japan. Since 2014, they have become a worldwide phenomenon (they've been together since 2010). They are going on there 4th US tour this September with AVATAR as support. They've also previously supported The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Stone Sour, and Korn on their respected tours. Also collaborated with Rob Halford of Judas Priest by performing "Painkiller" & "Breaking the Law" together on stage in Ohio.
The three girls names are Suzuka Nakamoto 21 (Su-Metal, lead singer), Yui Mizuno 20(Yuimetal, scream & dance on the left, no longer with the band), and Moa Kikuchi 20 (Moametal, scream & dance on the right). The other band members are Takayoshi Ohmura (Guitar), Leda (Guitar), ISAO (Guitar), Mikio Fujioka (Guitar, RIP passed away in January 2018), BOH (Bass), Hideki Aoyama (Drums). Their genre of music, they pioneered, is called "Kawaii Metal" (Kawaii meaning cute in Japanese). It's a fusion of Japanese Pop and Heavy Metal.
They started performing at very young ages (Su was only 5yo). BABYMETAL formed as part of an idol group (Sakura Gakuin) originally in 2010 when the girls were 11, 11, and 12. In 2013, the main singer became too old for the idol group and had to "graduate" out of the group. BUT, their manager/creator of the group (Key Kobayashi aka Koba-Metal) saw its huge potential, and he decided to turn the group into a real band to keep the original members together forever. That's also the year they gained new members of the band called the Kami Band (God Band). Made up of some of the best musicians in the world (which takes there live shows into the realm of legend).
BABYMETAL became really popular, and by the end of 2014 were a worldwide phenomenon. Their popularity is still growing and shows no sign of stopping. Multiple world tours and have sold out arenas (even played live on US national television on the Colbert Late Show in 2016).
One of the core members, YUIMETAL (Yui Mizuno) left the group in Oct 2018 after a long 1 year absence from the band due to health reasons. The core members now consist of just Su and Moa as duo. They have 3 rotating dancers (avengers) that fill in the empty 3rd position during live shows. They are Riho Sayashi (former member of Morning Musume), Kano Fujihira (Member of Sakura Gakuin), and Momoko Okazaki (former member of Sakura Gakuin).
They've toured all over the world, have won countless music awards all over the world (Metal Hammer Magazine even named their debut self-titled album "Best Metal Album of the 21st Century"), and have opened for The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lady GaGa, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Korn, Stone Sour, and have shared the stage with Rob Halford of Judas Priest, and Dragonforce. All have signed off and credited BABYMETAL as being a legit/talented band.

Hi Leech! Great reaction! Thanks for checking out my favorite band BABYMETAL! Karate is the song that really got me into them. I'd known about them for about a year but dismissed them as a gimmick band, but after watching this video I was hooked. Karate is a song about fighting your inner demons and pressing on no matter what life throws at you: "Even if tears spill from our eyes, we stand up and fight! We will fight with all our heart, with our fists more, with our spirits more, with making all sharper. Never stopping we'll fight, even if our spirits are broken and we can no longer stand up."
BABYMETAL is legit, and even though this music video is one of their better ones, they are best experienced live. They're more performance artists than recording artists and their main focus is live shows. Their backing "Kami Band" is some of the best metal musicians from Japan. Here's my recommendations:
"Ijime, Dame, Zettai" live at Sonisphere 2014 UK - They booked a smaller side stage but were bumped up to the main stage because some other band pulled out. This was their first big performance in the west and the girls were terrified on how the UK metal heads would react to them.
"Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God Intro" Budokan Black Night - This is a Su-Metal (lead singer) solo, but it shows off the Kami Band.
"Road of Resistance" Live in Japan - This is how BABYMETAL ends an arena show.
They have two albums released (the self titled "BABYMETAL", and "METAL RESISTANCE") with a third coming out in October called "METAL GALAXY". They're also kicking off tours in the US in Sept and Europe in 2020. If you like what you see you should check them out live!

This may be my favorite react-to-Babymetal video because I figured it was in Germany, and then...I heard the church bells through the open window, which brings positive Germany memories back to me. Also the reaction was a fair amount like my own. I love "The One", but I haven't seen if you've reacted to that song yet. No spoilers either way and greetings from the west coast of the US!
EDIT: I see The One has been reacted to. I like how it reminds me of We Are The Champions, very anthemic, but I also agree with you that the best songs have a hook to them and are just freaking catchy. I *also* concur that more comes through if one doesn't understand the sung language. At the same time, my brain searches like crazy to find some familiar Japanese to latch onto. Sadly, my Japanese vocab is nowhere near my German. I remain absolutely convinced that the best way to work one's way into a learned language is through song lyrics. In pop music or even across genres, the most frequent words are pretty standard - I/me, you, love, forget, remember, heart, head, hello, goodbye, etc. In Japanese I noticed that the word for "protect" pops up a lot, but maybe my data sample is small. Because of restrictive copyright, I had to mostly let Japanese music go and switch to Korean, which I don't speak at all. Babymetal has bucked the trend and is actually available to purchase to US residents. I am so encouraged and I have missed Japanese lyrics. Yes, these are the ramblings of a professional language person, but since the Internet skews so heavily to English it's never not-relevant. :)

In answer to your question about what language they're singing in, it is Japanese that they're singing in
As for the music, it's described by their record label as "Kawaii Metal" which translates as "Cute Metal" and it's a blend of Jpop (Japanese Pop) and a number of other genres (EDM, Hip Hop,all the different types of Metal and so forth)
Other Babymetal songs that you should check out:
Doki Doki Morning (Which predates the song " Karate"that you had just you reviewed)
    Ijime Dame Zettai
    Chocolate
Headbanger (thranslated in Japanese as "Heddoban")
    The One

Was so impressed/delighted/surprised/excited by BABYMETAL, I made a playlist.
Live versions of their first album, live versions of their second album, some extras, and a few official videos.
But the first video in the list is a trailer of their 2014 tour. Consider it a showcase of what's to follow.
    th-cam.com/video/j6cC01au1RY/w-d-xo.html
Was blown away by several things.
The musicians are world-class! Damn, those guys can play!
Great composition and arrangement of songs. Catchy as hell :p
The girls ooze enjoyment, energy and talent.
They always get the audiences on board. And check those crowds! Just makes you want to be there.
After hearing version upon version of things that had already been done a thousand times in metal, hearing BABYMETAL was incredibly refreshing.
And I'm really glad this band is around.
Be sure to check out 'Rondo of Nightmare (with Mischiefs of God intro)' ;)

The hand sign is symbolic of the Fox God, not the usual metal horns. The Fox God is benevolent and wants to save metal, he's not an evil demon.... Interesting reaction, you make me remember my 1st impacts with this band, this song was one of the 1st i listened and yes i got (still got) chills listening to SU -Metal (main vocalist) voice and the sound and the choerography, this group is unique and you will find metal in its various characteristics but always Kawai Metal (the term the girls gives to this new genre which means Cute Metal). you will find some prog metal like "Tales of Destiny" immediately you will recognize the referring band and going on recently they did an extraordinary song mixing Indian style with Metal i mean they experiments in various directions and this to me is also a beauty of this band, i love their production both studio and live but live is something different they reach the top in live. Go on on the journey you will discover a lot. Oh i forgot to say they are touring (World Tour) and they have 20 dates in USA, i will go in Austria the next to my country

    • @LeechTMReacts

Thanks for the Infos. Do they produce / write their Music by themselves, or is this some kind of "Project" and all the Girls / Bandmembers could be easily replaced?

    • @Grington300
      @Grington300 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@LeechTMReacts It is not a "project" in the way we might understand it and no the girls are not easily replaced. The whole thing was formed around the lead singer with her extraordinary voice and talents. The three of them started together in 2010 as a sub-unit of an Idol group but separated from that group to become a band in their own right in 2013 when Su-metal, the lead singer, was 15 and had to graduate from the original group - Babymetal went with her.
One of the girls (Yuimetal) was absent from the stage through ill health for 12 months after October 2017, missing the special shows for Su's 20th birthday in December 2017 and all of the US/World tour in 2018. She announced in October 2018 just before the tour finale in Japan that she would be leaving the band as she was still not fully recovered. She has still not been replaced. This year they have introduced 3 dancers who take her spot on stage in turn, but no permanent replacement. I think that answers one of your questions.
The Kami Band also has more than the 4 members you will see on stage at any one time. There are the regulars (until his untimely death in January 2018 Mikio Fujioka (RIP) on guitar, BOH on bass, Hideki Aoyama on drums, Takayoshi Ohmura, Leda Cygnus and ISAO on guitars) plus another small handful of musicians who can step in if necessary - they all play with Babymetal when their own projects and other bands they might play with don't clash.
Their producer gets the best song writers to write for them, so they don't write them themselves but they are their own songs written specifically for them. So far the girls (Yuimetal and Moametal as "Black Babymetal") have full writing credits for just one of their songs - '4 No Uta' or 'Song 4' - which they would perform as a duet without Su-metal.

    • @sergendrix
      @sergendrix 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@LeechTMReacts well i think its more a project but the main girls (Su-Metal and Moa-Metal) help to shape the design of the songs and probably the rest (choreography) and this girls cant be replaced or the band is another kind of thing, instead guitarrist have been replaced or swapped coz them are also involved in other projects but actually the band is almost stable

I absolutely love this reaction! This is what I watch reaction videos for. This reaction is almost the exact same thing that happened to me. My first song was Gimme Chocolate. Your brain has to stop for a moment to actually process wtf you just saw and heard. At the end of it you realize it gave you "the feels" and you re-watch the video so your brain can confirm it all. Then you need more. It usually takes a couple of songs before it hits you fully that this is some crazy good stuff. The girls are very kawaii (cute), the band slays, the video production is epic, the song structure is creative and professional, the vocals are superb, and the fans are deeply devoted. Most everyone is going to tell you to react to Road of Resistance Live in Japan next. Unbelievable live performance. I agree, but after that I would recommend Rondo of Nightmare with the Mischief of the God's intro. The Kami band behind the girls get some solos in before the lead singer Su-metal comes on with a solo. Eventually you will get to Headbanger the legend of 1997 or even Headbanger official, both are great. Thank you for a fantastic reaction video! I really enjoyed this a lot!
