Could you use that fork on a folding bike?
Think it'll be perfect :)
I'm so stoked that the hooligan finally gets the attention it deserves. looking forward to the klunker build
Oh yo! Damn, thanks for checking out the video haha 🤙
Yeah me too, it’s been a while since I’ve had a proper cruiser style klunker so will be rad 😎
Cheers!
That fork is very beautiful. Great job man👍
looks sick mate!!! like the moto bar addition at the end, really makes it come together! nice one mate 🔥🔥🔥
Cheers mate! Definitely needed a sweet bar to go along with it, the other ones were way too plain for the wild Hooligan 😆 I need to go bomb a stair-set for ya, but it’s been a hot minute since I’ve taken a 20” down stairs 😅
Thanks Gary! 🫡🤙💖
While it's mid-season i tend to listen to your videos to fall asleep. Wellp, thank you for such a content :D
Such a cool bike! I've never seen one of these in the wild but they look awesome
They’re so cool! Wild looking frame and they handle really nicely too. Hope you get to ride one sometime 👍
I have never een such a bike like it before.
It looks like a Brompton but does not fold.
Thanks for posting from Birmingham UK
I love my hooligan! Great job.
Cannondale has brought back the Hooligan frameset as an e-bike now.
love this! wish i could find a frame only remotly as cool. great job mate!
Such an informative and relaxing channel. Cheers man 🥹🤘
Thank you! Glad you’re liking the vibe here 😎🤙 stay tuned for more old bike shenanigans 🥳
you made the right choice with the pink tires, the bike looks stunning.
Been a massive fan of Dales and Killer Vs and the Hooligan for years now and this is the best vid I’ve ever watched about it thanks man
Big fan of these Hooligans and some of the older Dales too! Thanks heaps, glad you liked the video 👍 have another couple Cannondale projects coming up too 😎
This build is absolutely magic ❤
Thank you! It makes me feel like a kid again, just goofy and brings me so much joy haha. Plus it’s colourful as, fun and does more than what I need it to.
Stoked as with it 🤙🥳
That’s mean as. Love it bro. Nailed it!
Amazing build, best channel ever! cheers from Brazil
Thank you! 🫡💖 really appreciate it 🥳 ooh greetings from New Zealand 🙌 have a great day 🤙
Amazing how much you cleaned up that frame without re-painting 👍
That’s a really cool bike. I’ve never seen one of those. I’ve always enjoyed 20 inch wheel bikes. You definitely lost me on those pink tires though 😂
been waiting for this vid!! can't wait to watch!
Thanks heaps for checking it out! 🤩🤙 such a wacky little bike haha
What a cool bike! Love to ride one!!luv the pink tires, who knew?!😉👌
They’re so cool! 😆 most fun commuter I’ve had 👌 gets all kinds of weird looks and comments, awesome to see non-bike people liking the quirkiness of it!
Too good of a match 😎👌
Nice build dude..love the riding scenes.
I have a couple hooli..they are awesome bikes..
Cheers! Good to hear the feedback 🤙 oh rad! What are the setups on the ones you have?? The black one in your profile pic yeah? Nice 👌
Cool vid, I love what you've done with it. I get my green Hooligan next week and am looking forward to riding it and no doubt modding it.
Thank you! Ooh rad, you’ll love it. They’re so fun to ride, surprisingly stable for a small wheel bike but still so nimble 👌 enjoy!
That was a cool build, got me inspired to try something similar. Different colour scheme though!
bike looks dope after your restorations
Cannondale had front baskets that you could attaché to the front head badge. I bought a neutrino frame to build but ended up finding a none lefty hooligan for way cheap with a surly 24 rack. Guy I bought it from was 6 foot from Australia. He rode it across the US. It’s a practical little bike for small spaces. Works out for me living in NYC. Thing the mini velo is slowly catching on more outside of Asia. Btw, I still have a small pistachio neutrino in box. They are dope but I saved so much $$ on the hooligan find. Nice video!
I’ve never seen one! Haha do you have any photos of them!? I can’t find any photos online of the basket, just Dahon ones 🤦♂️
Dang that’s cool, I’ve always wanted a Neutrino but had to jump on the Hooligan 🤩
So cool you found one and sounds like it’s a well loved example too, haha trust an Aussie to ride it all over 😂👌 wonder who it was, that’s a cool story by itself!
Cool to hear of other people enjoying their Hooligans 🤙
Sweet, you're making me miss my BMX bike!
Dang! Go grab another one 😎 haha, or try out a Hooligan!
Love it. All bar the pink tyres.
Thanks! 😄🤙
very interesting build loved it !!!
Glad you liked it! It’s so weird, definitely one of my favourite bikes though 👌💖
This is so good! I ran in to a Hooligan in the wild on Victoria St in Welly a couple years ago and it blew my mind. Still kind of want one.
Thank you! So stoked with it, it’s funny as to ride 😆 oh no way! Was it a light blue one?
Such weird looking bikes 👌
I know of a few others, there’s another green one down south, the light blue one in Wellington, and a black one up in Auckland. There’s probably others, though.
.. I vaguely remember another one 🤔
@@toastyrides I remember it being white but maybe it was light blue? Wish I’d taken a a sneaky photo
Damn good call on the pink tires! They look great on the black wheels against the green frame.
I’m a fan of compression less housing as well.
Mate so happy with the look of it haha, glad you like it too 😎👌 crazy how well the two bright colours still pop so well against each other!
Yeah I’ll definitely be changing it in the future, the rear brake is noticeably a bit spongier than the front (the front is a very cheap compression less cable, but still!). 😎🤙
Sweet looking bike!!!
Sure is! So wild 🤩🤙
Weird but funky. Cool bike.
Unique, interesting bike. I like it.
Haha exactly, quite weird but I love it! Handles so well too 👌
Regarding the cables: I watched a Paul Components video some time ago where Paul said that linear cables don't really like to be bent a lot. So his suggestion was if you're going to have relatively straight runs, use linear. If you have some tight turns use the wound ones.
Just trial it out and see 🤙
With some drop bars the curves are too aggressive for linear cables, it basically just creates a small amount of friction, but 98% of the time it’s not an issue. Even then I’d just run a section of coil wound outer under the bartape, then use an inline barrel adjuster then run compressionless cable outside of the bartape.
But just trial it out, see what ya feel 🤙
Fun fact: Pauls Klampers are very similar internally to Avid bb7’s
You always build on the best frames
I got so lucky with this! Previous owner was a really nice person and it was just the right timing for me 👌 really stoked with it!
@@toastyrides yea they are really fun and good looking
I have a commuter bicycle with 20 inch wheels, I think it's about the perfect wheel size for a city bicycle. My own bicycle can fold, though, for when I want to take a train or a bus. I have a 3-speed internal gear hub with coaster brakes, a frame that technically came from a children's bicycle (although shorter sub-180cm adults can ride this bicycle stock), a pair of mudguards because they're essential, and extra long seat post and handlebar stem (the seat post is 550mm, the handlebar stem will eventually be around 400mm). 44-teeth sprocket in the front, 18 in the rear, and it's pretty much perfect for this kind of bicycle. I honestly wouldn't even really need any additional speeds but they do help when I have an extra steep or long climb and when I want a bit of extra speed when descending or on flat ground.
By the way, don't the handlebars feel too low? For me, that would be too low, I feel.
Yes boss! What a bike colour combo!
I was going to say... measure up that headbadge bolt pattern and I'll try and model a rack adapter for it but it looks like you got it sorted eh. Still, let me know if you want me to give it a go.
Really cool looking bike. Love the green and pink tyre combo. I’d be tempted to put matching pink grips and maybe pink anodised chain ring and pedals too! 🤘🏻
Thank you! Yeah I didn’t know where I should draw the line haha. I’ll go for pink grips when these ones wear down I think. Pink cables would be cool too, but I couldn’t get them in time for the video 😆
I just put the Box Prime 9 three on my commuter bike, so far I'm really liking it.
Oo rad! I’m really liking the box four, the up shift is really crisp! Derailleur works well at holding the chain on, it’s a bit heavy but that’s not really an issue for me. Lovely looking kit too 👌
@@toastyrides Right, everything just feels really robust, which is more my concern for riding to and from work, errands, etc...
if you need one, i still have 1 been kept for sometime. its still brand new, with box and owners manual. 2014 model, grey/corals.. running on 9 speed acera
Very cool crazy bike🎉🎉🎉
So crazy! Haha 🎉🥳
Cool bike. I decided I need one, but the only one I could find was used and US$1200.
That rail path looked almost like something from a movie... take Toot something to eat next time 👍
Sweet ride. I like your build vids. Have you tried an ultrasonic cleaner? I think it might change your life.
The Microshift super short groupset might be worth a look down the track. 11-38 cassette, clutch short cage derailleur, made for 20” wheels 👌
Yeah some day maybe but not really worth the upgrade for an extra 20-30mm of ground clearance. If I snag this on something I’ll go that route next though👌 the box four is 11-42 with a clutched derailleur too so I have a bit extra low range, which is handy for towing the trailer 😎
Thanks for checking out the vid! 😄🤙
@@toastyrides If the Box 4 gets the job done then hell yeah, extra range is always nice. Totally get it, hard to justify shelling out for a new groupset vs a good used one
너무 멋져요
Beautiful build! Did you make your stem bag yourself?
I've haven't seen that style of bmx before. i love the pink tyres against that green frame. I've just bought an electric zooz urban ultralight bmx from America, and the tyres are 24" x 2.5 with maxxis hookworm tyres, but I'm trying to get some Camouflaged tyres but I've had no joy as yet 😢
Yeah it’s a really strange and hard to find (at least here) bike! Oh cool, that’ll be a ripper 👌 hmm yeah I think Cult are the only camo tyres that spring to mind, but I don’t know if they do 24’s, maybe just 20 and 26… good luck with the search!! Hookworms are really nice chunky tyres though, they last a while too. Pretty heavy, but I like them on my other Cannondale 🤙
@toastyrides yes the hookworm are nice and sticky. I do feel safe cornering with those on my bike. I wish I could find a rack for my bike they do them for the new version, but not mine.
New gloves!
Yes! They seem to last longer if I cut a fingertip off when they’re new 🤷♂️ haha, I really like them for $2 gloves so always have spares but try to get the most out of them 😂👌
Shift outers could burst if you use them for brakes and pull the brake lever hard. But i do it myself, depending on the bike, i also like the harder feel more.
You use shift outers instead of brake linear outers? Wild! They are a lot cheaper than brake specific compressionless housing, even though the construction is similar.
Most brake linear cables have added structure, compared to gear cables, so maybe that’s why they resist bursting. Stay safe! 🤙 definitely recommend Odyssey cables 👌
Since a fork is comprised of multiple prongs, the Lefty is not a fork, but rather just a "prong". "Skewer" has potential, "shank" for the less refined. I understand that the quotation marks aren't entirely needed, but they aren't entirely not needed, either, so that's what I went with.
But skewer is already a part of a bike, whereas fork is what holds the front wheel-besides, when talking about a bike fork there isn’t really a definitive “two or more blades”.
Maybe a single bladed X? Knife, squeegee? 🤔
That thing looks mental!! I can’t cope with it!! I’m off to do some acid 🙃
Hahaha I’m sure someone was on something when they came up with it 😆 no idea who thought it’d be cool, but they were spot on 👌
👌😍
PINK TIRES! Love these little hooligans. Run with the weird! Can't say i love the chainring choice, but you do you. How does it lock into the crankset anyway?
Haha they’re so rad and weird 😂 yeah had to, awesome bmx vibes for me 😍appreciate it! 🤙 just a chainring bolt, pretty common in the bmx world. These cranks have the thread for chainring bolts in each arm too, so could technically rock one on each side haha
@@toastyrides left side drive fixed gear using a 6 bolt cog? maybe an idea for a future project ;)
looks cool but it seems one would develop a hunch back from notre dame after riding it. with the seat so so so so so so high up. why is the seat so high up?
Could try a little pink spray paint splatter effect onto ur pedals, to match ur grips :)
That would look good, good idea! Think I’d get carried away with some splatter on the frame too though 😍😆 might see if there’s some pink plastidip paint..
Lovely bike. I use the same brake levers and calipers on my commuter (2013 Surly Karate Monkey) and have been using Nokon cables with those aluminium segments. Not only do they feel even more direct, the routing is also way easier with less tension in the curves. At least compared to linear cables.
Can anyone here give me tipps for other minibike framesets available? I'd also be interested in 24" bikes that can be used as commuter bikes.
Gary sticker suits the build
Perfect on the lefty fork 😍👌 haha
I heard someone say coil wound cable housing is nice for cable actuated disc brakes because it provides a little counter-spring against the cable pull?
Never heard that but not the weirdest opinion I’ve heard, it either feels ok or feels too squishy so I just use compressionless on all my brakes. It’s never been a issue with rebound/return yet with rim brakes or disc 🤙
400th like 👍 right here
Haha thank you! 🙌 cheers for checking out the video
I want to make my bmx a mini velo. but i dont know how to make a super long stem so my posture will be upright
Nice piddles
Pedals? Thanks! Odyssey JC, rad and sturdy 👌 or puddles? 🤔
What was the intended use for this style bike. I can tell by looking it'd be a blast to ride, but what for? Haha, looks sorta like one of those downhill road racing bikes from early 90's.
Haha I don’t know really, have just seen it marketed as an urban bike. So just a quirky around town bike? 🤷♂️😆 it does! 😂
What about a Nexus setup for this bike?
Understand the Hooligan is no longer in production ?
Without the unreasonably tall seatpost they look amazing, and yes i am mad because i dont understand how you sit like this, you must be braking your back😫
Haha this feels quite upright to me. This is probably the closest bar-saddle height I have.
I think as you get older your bars get higher, but I’ve also seen older guys with a lot of saddle-bar drop.
Who knows the logic, but just ride what’s comfy for ya and don’t worry too much about other peoples backs 😂👍
When you’re 6’5 every bike feels like this
I clicked pretty quick as I’m upgrading a polygon Urbano 20”. BMX tyres 2.4” slipped on. Wider gear range was 12-32 went to 11-34 easy and next is a hollowtech crank. I’d like the Zee derailleur as it has a short cage and a clutch.
Oh rad!! Thanks for clicking quick 🫡🤙 we don’t have the Urbano here but we have the Polygon Zeta, which is another cool 20” bike. Looks a bit weird, but it grabs your eye!
Sounds like some decent upgrades for it, yeah I was going to get a Zee too 👌 nice little derailleurs, but then this box setup popped up so jumped on it. Happy with it, though! The Zee setup will be really nice on it 🤙
The Cosmo and Wanda bike
Hahaha yes! 😂good spotting 👌 didn’t even realise, but maybe that’s why I thought the colours would go well together 😅
If you don't mind me asking, please let me know. How tall are you? Im thinking about getting a Mercier Mini Vello ( 53 cm) and Im 6'5.
Очень красивый
Would love a Hooligan but the price!
Yeah they’re rad little bikes 😎🤙 got this one for a pretty good price here, but most I’ve seen a pretty pricey. What do they go for there?
Hope you find one! 🫡🤞
It is like a Formula 1 bike.
Haha yes! There’s an old bmx that has fairings that this reminds me of. Hooligan wouldn’t be as fast though 😂
want one so bad but might need to compromise and just modify a bmx lol
Haha I’ve seen some awesome bmx mods, so definitely worth it unless you can find a Hooligan.
😎🤙
What is the top speed? 🛴
Cool a$$ bike but still don't know how people ride a seat into the clouds and handlebars practically on the floor. I would have some wide BMX handlebars probably 10 inches or taller. P.S. run those cars over turning in front of you....lol.
Haha yeah I think that’s just personal preference, just rock whatever feels good for ya 🤙 bmx bars look rad, too, as an added bonus! 😎
Hahaha I wish I could, wheels are too small 😂👏
pink tires
Not just pink, but *PINK* 💖😂 hahaha
cool bike! but i just find that chainring to be so ugly and not so fitting for the bike lol
Thanks! I love it, but there’s always different opinions out there 🤙 knew which chainring would go on it as soon as I picked the bike up haha, so happy with it overall 😍👌
Old sprocket more beautiful in my opinion
🤙
Seat post should be taller, way taller, so much taller'er.
Could be Brompton seatpost length 🤌
Pink tires a little too _Zesty_
Too zesty ain’t a thing with the Hooligan, surely 😂🔥
Junk tires
meh...
10/10 would read again 👏
good looks aside, all of those seem downgrades
Wider range gearing ✅
More suitable bars ✅
Rack to carry stuff ✅
Comfier seat ✅
Larger chainring to suit me ✅
Things to suit other people ❌
@@toastyrides fair enough
Love the bike. Don't get me wrong but the tire color is a bit wild. But overall it's so cool. I own a foldie as well as a daily driver so i have a soft side for 20's
what id give for one of these bikes
i wish those trailer quick releases werent such a rip off
i just bought a second hand bob yak that didnt come with them
itd cost me more than i payed for the trailer just to buy those :(
Yeah I had to get one too, with shipping to NZ it was 3x what I paid for the trailer but really glad I got it though 🤌😆 love using it and it handles so well!
nice
i actually just discovered my trailer is actually a knockoff yak that uses a much cheaper quick release hitch lol
