1946 Austin 10 | Classic Car Ownership Review & Drive Experience

  • Namaskara!
This weekend I had the great opportunity to swap 2 wheels for 4 when the chance to drive around in a vintage Austin 10 car came by. And quite obviously I jumped at it.
This car purchased in 1946 has stayed in the same family and the owner is the 3rd generation to use this car.
The design and technology that had gone into this car 75 years ago is amazing and interesting. And like most British automobile brands, this company does not exist now because the Austin Car Company merged with Morris Motors Ltd. in 1952 though the name Austin was used till the late 1980s. Today all that remains of the Austin 10s are collectors item like this in India.
Hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making it, driving and traveling in this car.
    Cheers!

What a credit to this guy for maintaining this car in such immaculate condition . The very first car that I was in as a child . My father had one back in the 1960's . Loved it .

My first car was an identical 1946 Austin 10 and my father bought it for me in 1964 when I was 18 & paid £29 for it. I live in the East Midlands of England, and loved it and kept it many years. It was no trouble except the factory fitted, sunshine roof leaked a bit over the passenger!

I really enjoyed this video as there was a derelict Austin 10 in the driveway of my next door neighbour when I was a little boy. That car sparked my interest in old cars from the 30s + 40s. Lovely that it's a one family car.

Just came across this video, car is a testament to proper care and maintenance, absolutely beautiful.
In England the turn signals were often referred to as "trafficators" or "semaphores".
I hope the car makes it another 75 years. Good luck to the car and it's owner. Very interesting, thanks for posting.

Lovely car . Here in the UK they are quite rare. I didn't expect to see one in India . I can tell you care for it very much . I hope you enjoy it for many years to come . Best wishes from the UK ....

I came across this video by chance. What a refreshingly original car. Just hearing the nearly silent engine was utterly joyful. I am in a similar situation as the owner of this Austin. I am the custodian of my grandfather's 1947 car who bought it new and then my father used it daily for office and now it is with me. Our ownership story is almost identical.

Lovely old, no frills car with mechanical brakes. My parents had a 1947 car here in England in 1963 and we went everywhere in it, but it was prone to head gasket failure.
Climbing steep hills in The Forest of Dean was a challenge because if we couldn't get a fast run we'd start rolling backwards with cars swerving to avoid us, but as a 8yo boy I loved it and still remember the registration number. A check with DVLA shows the car no longer exists which is a tragedy because now I'm in a position to buy it back!

Yes! Looks like lubrication was a top focus area those days. There are multiple places in the car and in the owners manual where the importance of periodic lubrications is stressed upon. Cheers!

A very common site when I was a kid, early post War. Living quite lose to the Austin Works in Birmingham. Such a 'moderrn' yet Conservative design by comparison with my dads pre -war model.

Austin become part of Layland and then when Layland went bankrupt in the 80s it was absorbed into Rover, but Rover ceased production in the early 2000's...
Perhaps Austin went away from India after independence?
