    Brilliant stuff . Really like the pictures if Stanley station as you say what a shame nearly everything demolished or filled in . I remember my dad telling me about the pit that was at the junction of Aberford road and Bottomboat and about how it was capped off with concrete by a team working for the N C B . Look forward to the next installment.

    I have seen a few of your video's. They are quite good. I know an old farmer from Wakefield who in his youth, used to take Rhubarb from his fields to Stanley station, early in the mornings so it could get to London in time for the markets to open.

    I lived in the Victorian house (6.02) from 1988 to 1995. My dad recommissioned all the original features of the house including the cast fireplace in the dinning room that had been painted white gloss, the magnificent cast range oven in the basement (boarded up!) that heated up all the rooms in the houses via the two connecting chimneys and the coal shoot from the front entrance path into the basement. Loved that house ☹️

    When I've been out exploring I've hit dead ends too and had to double back. It's annoying but you keep going. I followed an old line from my home town of East Kilbride but most of it's built on. They could never reopen it. It went to a station that's now a large housing estate. While you can follow the track the station is completely gone.

    Love your series exploring close to the Lofthouse area where I live. When we moved here some 30+ years ago we put down hardstanding for the cars using old bricks. I recently took a closer look at them and found a lot, unsurprisingly, are stamped 'Armitage' but also some 'Lofthouse Brick Works' , 'Middleton Leeds' and 'St Johns Colliery'

    • @AdventureMe
      @AdventureMe  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. There's a lot in the area. I keep seeing Armitage bricks in the woodland. My house is built out of them and the wood lane estate in rothwell.

      I used to go past the remains of what I knew as Thorpe Brickworks between Outwood and Middleton. Was it actually called Lofthouse Brickworks then?

    A crying shame that cuttings were filled in and bridges demolished. I was wondering if you had managed to find a picture of the bridge over Bottom Boat Road, I had presumed it would be the same design as the Baker Lane bridge. I would like to see pictures of the Mount Road and Long Causeway bridges but possibly you don't have them as they did not feature on the video. Looking forward to the next part of the journey.

    • @AdventureMe
      @AdventureMe  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I don't have any pictures. Although I'm sure some will appear eventually. They did for my other ones. Keep Watching the rest of the series, you will be surprised how it changes after this section, most still intact.

    Wakefield to Leeds on the Aberford road in the fifties before the M62 was built there was a long downhill stretch and rise . The tracks crossed the road and were there after the line was closed.

    Hi, a small point that doesn't affect the history but at 10:32 into the video you say that the houses on the left of the path (St Peters Crescent) wouldn't have been there but they were and it's the houses on the right of the path (Holmfield Chase) that are new. You can still see the stone of the bridge abutment, at pavement level, in line with Holmfield Chase.
