Walked across it a couple of years ago from the site of the old station to the station at Hawsker,a lovely walk & then a pint & fish & chips back at Whitby,the whole line went to Scarborough,through the Scarborough goods yard (where Sainsbury's is now) & continued through to Scarborough station via the now closed Falsgrave tunnel.As I remember the Larpool viaduct also featured in an episode of Heartbeat
If the original plan had been followed the Whithy and Scarborough Railway would have had a station on the eastern side of the harbour with a steep climb up to where the rest of the line would have been.
Engineering marvels like this are well worth preserving.

Amazing viaduct I’ve been under by rail, but never walked over it, from New Zealand
There are beautiful views from the top. I live 45 minutes from here.
