Away Luggage Killer! Muji Suitcase Review

  • Muji's suitcase has the build quality and practicality to compete against brands like Away that are getting very popular due to their simple designs and "smart" capabilities. The lack of the battery pack in the Muji suitcase is actually a good thing because TSA is cracking down on luggages with batteries. If you buy a Muji suitcase, you don't have to worry about this AT ALL.
At the time of this writing, you can get the suitcase at a discount as well! Check it out here: www.muji.us/sto...

Thank you for an honest review. I have been considering getting a Muji suitcase for a while now (the same color as yours but the smallest size). I agree that for me at least, not having a built in charger is not a deal breaker. If you could post another video after you have taken your bag on several more trips, especially long hauls, that would be great. Thanks.

Everyone please note that the lock on this luggage uses A SMALL KEY (not a combination lock). If you lose that key you’re out of luck.

      @Pangyao78 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Well you can also forget your combination numbers, just attach the keys to your zipper tags if you're not using it. Not much of a deal breaker

I think a built in battery pack is not a good idea - extra weight and airlines are cracking down on batteries being put in checked luggage these days due to the fire risk. If I want a battery, I will just carry a portable one in my bag! Not much good to me checked in anyway if I have a flat battery in the cabin!

Over time the rubber handles will rip and break. thats what happened to mine. but they have a spare replacement at minimal price.

Great review. I purchased the first generation similar sized as yours last November before I flew to Japan. Awesome piece of luggage, and better yet, it was $159.00. Muji offers great discounts on these pieces. I also have the carry on 33L carry on also purchased with deep discount. I’d rather have a better quality battery pack in my backpack anyway.

You are right about one thing that there are less reviews of other luggages on TH-cam. Thanks for reviewing the muji luggage, I was curious how it would be like.

There was nothing in this video that made Muji a "Killer" suitcase compared to Away.

Although this suitcase is cheaper than the away, the main difference is the wheel lock feature vs the portable charger.

If the price difference is only $55 and Away offers a lifetime guarantee and also the compression system (absolutely amazing), then, even if you don’t use the battery (which is an option) , the Away is probably a better value.

i just purchased mine a few weeks ago and used it for my trip to seoul. this was my second suit case i ever owned. before this i had a big gravis one and it was cool looking with the skateboard wheel and served me well for almost 10 years but it was falling apart so i switched to the muji one. it was nice to take it as a carry on flying in to seoul. i have the same size i think. i do like the four wheel feature and it really made it easy to lug it around. i was wondering what that lock button was in the bottom of the handle. now i know haha. but i agree with the things you said but i dont regret purchasing this either.

Thank you! I travel to Asia every few weeks for work and have been considering Away, but can't justify the the price. Muji seems to be the better alternative and (after tax) is nearly $100 cheaper!

Adding one more thing - the Away comes with a limited lifetime warranty and 100-day trial period. That also explains the difference in price.
P.S. I like your calm manner of speaking, plus your brows are really cute :)

This review did not touch upon the weight of the suitcase. I checked this suitcase being one of the solid options to consider and it was 50% heavier than its rivals. This comes at an expense as you will always have to pack less on your trips due to that factor. Just thought of sharing. I love Muji products otherwise.

Was thrilled to get this suitcase but over the course of 2 years I maybe used this suitcase a handful of times. On the 4th trip the shell cracked and the zipper locks are destroyed. Made with poor metal and cheap materials. Customer service was abysmal since the suitcase was out of warranty. My advice is to buy the AWAY suitcase for a few extra dollars and take advantage of the LIFETIME WARRANTY. That’s the route I’m going now and will never buy from Muji again

Funny how I got this exact same message from you on one of my videos with my smaller muji suitcase. Sorry to hear that all of your muji suitcases broke 🤷🏻‍♀️ Good thing that mines still perfectly fine after multiple trips! 👍🏼

Enchantelle i was pretty disappointed, hope you don’t have to deal with Muji Customer Service...ever. I wrote a review on Muji but low and behold they don’t post reviews for everyone to see, so thought I’d share my experience where people will actually see it.
