@Charlie Li i guess if you have around 7 class periods a year then if he took 3 freshman year, 5 sophomore year, 7 junior year (most academically heavy) and maybe 5 senior year too? idk man thats crazy. maybe summerschool?
Benjamin Li i took 2 my freshman year and 3 my sophomore year. i could’ve taken more but didn’t want to. i guess some schools just offer different opportunities
Just because this guy says that he did 20 ap classes and 20 different extra curriculars and was the best at whatever ... doesnt mean you have to do the same thing he did. They're looking for people that are unique not copiers. Just because you do everything and anything doesn't mean you're unique. Yes some things are mandatory like excellent grades, being involved in the community, and high SAT scores. But taking 20 AP classes and doing 30 different math clubs is not necessary at all. I know people who have gotten in with much less work. The key point to take away from this is not to do what others do. Do what you like/love. If you dont like doing math clubs, dont do them. If you prefer doing sports, do it. Dont try to be someone you're not to impress a college. At the end of the day theres a good amount of people who never went to Harvard, or college at all, and are doing better than Harvard grads. Harvard isnt the secret to success its merely a better chance of being successful faster.
I love this video soo much! What Andy accomplished to get into Harvard is incredibly impresive. And what makes me like him more is that he is so laid-back. 👏👏❤❤
My daughter will be starting high school next week and Harvard is on her list of Colleges along with Georgia Tech and Texas A&M. She was approved for an Engineering pathway and she also as 4 AP classes. She's so excited. She also runs track and plays violin...she's looking forward to high school to become more involved in the community.... I wish I had her focus and vision at her age lol!
I REALLY enjoyed the video. I am female and from Germany and studied at Heidelberg and Frankfurt Main Universities with 2 masters (main subjects: Art History, and Art Education with minor subjects Musicology and Economics) and a bachelor (Educational science). Here in Germany, being versatile is not really welcome for application- really a contrast to the States. My main focus has eber been art and music and I am also a very passionate singer, who did a large number of extra courses for this, I also play cello, piano and renaissance lute. I am also a visual artist. AND I invented my own form of make up (I am also a make up artist as a second job, which I NEVER studied- I taught myself- art studying has helped me A LOT). I am also a passionate athlete (weight lifter and dancer- I even do a further education as a dance teacher at the moment) and speak fluent 5 languages: german, english, italian, french, spanish, and a bit chinese and also a bit swahili. I work for an insurance at the moment, and am a freelancer for: teaching art, wedding singing, tour guiding and make up artist (all works well). Germans are definitely not as open for versatility as US does when applying for university or a job. Instead, it is fairly important to seem straight forward and specialized-focused. Instead, I like the idea of being versatile as the meaning of: creative, open minded and independent, and unique/ special in your own way- inventing your own business, which nobody did before you. Creativity is just intelligence- the more impressions the brain get, the more synapses it can develop- and that makes you more survivable und at least successful. Humanity only suvived because of creativity, curiosity and following: INVENTIONS!!! Being active starts in your mind and sport can help, also the idea of being an athelete AND the fitter your body is, the fitter, competitive and successful, your brain can also be in an integral way (includes meditation, sleep, nutrition, honest self relection, emotional intelligence etc) When doing art, I also love combining all of my own disciplines: singing, drawing, dancing, stage design etc - as a total work of art and MY new form of it. Totally a different world to my experiences, what your guest is talking about.
Well all his preparation in high school and at Harvard prepared him for an interview at Amazon. You know how complex those interviews are . Not just Amazon but Google and Apple even Spacex
Fun fact: In the Czech Republic (that's where I live) there are basically 3 degrees that are equal: Mgr = Eng = MUDr. The first one stands for humanities, the second one is for engineers and the last one is for doctors (medics) and all of them are equal to masters degree (For some reason, in the CR we distinguish them). And my point is that in the CR economists get the Eng one, so technically here, Andy would still be engineer. Therefore he isn't different from his parents.
Hafu!!!!!!! I loved this video!! I am impressed with Andy's determination! :) He rocks! Thanks for sharing such interview! You also look different! You look great! Great video!
Great interview. Same thing I told my son who attends NMMI, “ have fun and don’t things out of your comfort zone”. Well he jumped from his second floor dorm window, nearly broke his ankle. Then most recently he was driving way too fast and misjudged the turn and drive off a 4ft cliff. I told him,”WTF! Your not Vin Diesel!! My advice to him is “don’t F sht up, & study hard. Thank you again, definitely enjoyed watching the video. 😁
Guys, this man is an overachiever (20 ap classes really?!). I don't recommend doing as much as he did it will lead to stress and burnout. Just find a few extracurricular activities you're interested in, try to get good at those. Also, you really don't need to take that many AP classes, just a few should be fine. Really just have a solid GPA, high test scores, hobbies you're good at, and a way to stand out. Good luck everyone!
I’m not tryna hate or anything but it’s really odd that this dude literally got prefect grades and scores, got into a top college, graduated but ended up with a job that pays about 127K. To be honest if with everything he did and accomplished kinda expected more.
You also have people that didn't finish highschool making millions, overachieve or underachieve it doesn't matter, follow your passion and be in tune with yourself and good things will come your way 🤞🏾
He should have asked his friend whether the Harvard acceptance letter came before or after the other offers because I imagine getting accepted to like Stanford or Princeton first would have put the Harvard offer as just more gravy on top...hence, may have contributed to his friend's low keyed reaction.
Did Harvard ever have a practice of limiting the number of Asians that were accepted because there was some kind of racial balance/representation they were trying to achieve? I won't be more specific than that.
My mom can never ever see this...sorry Hafu, can't be a disgrace like this hahaha. I want to mention that every high school is different, in some schools, they don't let you take more than 2 AP tests. In my school, I can take as many as I want to but each year has a different number of AP classes offered. Thank's for the insight, a girl from my school got into Harvard and is going there!
Hey ik its been while since you posted your "How I Got Into Harvard" video but, I going into sophomore year in Highschool and have always wanted to go to Harvard, but I gave up on that dream until recently. I am the president of a club and a treasurer of another. I have a 3.5 GPA (which I know is not good) but I am going to change that in the following years. I do track and XC and play a religious instrument that is pretty rare to play in America. I also feel like my religion would make pop out more than other students since its kinda unique. Since you are a Harvard students and and have interacted with other students what do you think of me getting in. Thanks =)
Hi, I have 2 questions that: 1.Is it possible to apply for Harvard University with ielts score for oversea students? 2.Can you inform about other requirements for getting into Harvard University? Thanks in advance!
I am 15 years old, I am now in the 9th grade (only 11), my dream is to enter Harvard after the 11th grade. Someone, please tell me, I know Chinese, English, Spanish, Russian (this is my native language), but every year I will study another new language; I write books (so far 16 pieces, but one more is added every month), I used to do rock climbing. But I don't have diplomas, certificates and all that. All these classes will be counted as extracurricular activities or what should I do? And another thing: I plan to enter the finance faculty there, but I don't have any hobbies with finance at all, I just like this job. So, in an essay, I can write about the languages that I know and about writing, and it won't be strange that my chosen profession is not connected with this at all? Just do not write so that I don't study in this university, I will achieve my goal
20 practice tests in a week and reviewing your answers and studying each incorrect answer is impossible, unless he didn’t sleep. 4 hour tests + at least 2-4 hours of thorough review and study and re testing per test = 120-160 hours (168 hours in a week)
you're assuming 2-4 hours of thorough review and study and re testing per test. if his initial SAT scores were so bad that he needed 2-4 hours of that per test, then i doubt he would've gotten a perfect score. 4 hr tests + 1hr review = 5hr/test. 20 tests = 100 hours. 1 week = 168 hours. 68 hours leftover (5-7 hours of sleep per day + 2-4 hours of breaks, leisure, food, etc. per day)
He could only take the reading and writing section also, for example. That’s what I did once I knew I got 800s on math every time. So he could spend maybe 2 hours per test and 1 hour for review = 3*20 = 60 hours so 108 hours left over plenty of time to sleep 8-10 hours and have feee time left over
My problem is the fact that I wasn’t allowed to take honors and AP classes freshmen year and Im planning on graduating early, plus I have no extra curriculars so I don’t think I qualify
I liked all of your video 👍 I’m a high school student in Cambodia, and I’m going to finish high school in the next few months. 100000000000
100000000000
Jadess Lowrey normal for people that go to Harvard
@mr_godman don't say "even"
He's so chill about everything he has achieved 😂
Staying humble is how you keep growing 💪
I mean he graduated and started his actual career long ago. So he wouldn't be too excited to talk about things he did in high school lol.
Doesn't really help us
He worked hard and achieved... The process makes you quite calm about life
The fact that you took 20 AP courses and started in your freshman year is genuinely impressive.
@Charlie Li i guess if you have around 7 class periods a year then if he took 3 freshman year, 5 sophomore year, 7 junior year (most academically heavy) and maybe 5 senior year too? idk man thats crazy. maybe summerschool?

Impressive but not impossible

The only way I can get into Harvard is by jumping over the wall
hahah that's pretty funny
that wall just got 10 feet higher

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I got into Harvard too...
Then cops joined me
Anyone else think Hafu's voice is nice? It has a certain pleasing tone.
I do 🤷♂️
And I thought I was the only one thinking about how to have that accent since the start
hahahaha lol
He took 20 AP classes in high school. So he had literally finished his college courses before he entered it. lol
Right. So he graduated college at 18. And got a like master/PHD after 4 years of college with BA
LOL love how he said "I got a perfect score" so calmly XD
Haha no biggie ;)

You do need to work very hard to become successful whatsoever.
It’s common knowledge that Hardvard has higher expectations for the Asian demographic...you can find articles or videos about it.
@@yj6118 Has absolutely nothing to do with being Asian. Please don't bring race/ethnicity into this lol.

Him getting a perfect score on SAT really impressed me than any others because it's that FUCKING HARD!!!!!!!!!
Did Harvard ever have a practice of limiting the number of Asians that were accepted because there was some kind of racial balance/representation they were trying to achieve? I won't be more specific than that.
