I am still paying child support for a 20 year old because he is doing an apprenticeship. His mother and step father own a house, drive a BMW and go on vacation twice a year, while I live paycheck to paycheck. Is that extremely fair? Marilyn Ryan needs a reality check.

Here is a guess - ALL women think it is fair and ALL men think it is NOT fair!!!!!! The problem that I have is very simple - and NOT FAIR: If SHE gets pissed and decides that I CANNOT see my daughters when I am scheduled to see them - SO WHAT - WHO CARES!!!!!!!! HOWEVER if I get laid off from work and cannot pay her for 1 month - I GO TO JAIL!!!!! Tell me what is fair about that?!?!?!?!?! (And I spent 9 months in jail - so now I am 10 months behind - and cannot find a job!!!!!)
I am also hiding - so they cannot find me and put me back in jail - I am SURE that not being able to find a job - does not matter to the FEMALE judge!!!!!!!! And I have not seen nor spoken to my 3 daughters in over 2 years - and that is OK by child support standards - which are 100% AGAINST the man!!!!! The funny part is that the ex-wife always gets remarried in a big hurry so she still has someone to support her. She then makes the new husband the child's father and cuts the real father out of the picture. All a man is good for is his money. It makes no difference if he is allowed to be in his childrens lives or not. And the judges couldn't care less. All a man is, is an ATM machine for vindictive women.

I did that - and the child support judge - threw it out of court!!!!!! This is state to state and all states are different - and my lawyer (and several others) have told me that if your ex-wife does NOT want you to see your children - then it is RARE that you will see them!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!
Jeff Schwartz Indeed! If she says her child is too sick to be handed over for "visitation", the police will make sure that said visitation does not happen. But if the father already has the child during a visitation and tells the mother that the child is too sick to be transferred to her, the father will be arrested.

That's because the courts are biased and it's been on youtube that judges favor mothers 99% of the time as you can't take a child away from it's mother, so they say. Sorry, but if I was supposed to put out all that money, I would want to see where it was going. It doesn't take 1400 dollars a month to take care of an infant baby, and what about the mother? Why isn't she paying anything? It's the courts that say oh the father has to pay for it all while the mom banks all the checks.
91% of all divorces with children end up in the female getting the children because the state knows that most women aren't going to work there for its reimbursement for welfare as determined in the Supreme Court case wehunt vs. Ledbetter. I'll also add that the Supreme Court of the United States same Supreme Court ruled in blessings versus Freestone the child support was never designed to be a benefit for the children. It was designed to be a benefit to the state as welfare reimbursement. And that is why women get the kids. The state knows that most women will not work.

Yea, problem is, often the dads then no longer have the money to see the kid or kids either. So they are broke and have no relationship with there kids. Child support often ruins lives.

if it wasn't for court ordered child support my ex would of NEVER paid....first 2 years of my twins life my ex did not pay because it took 2 years for the court system down here to get to our case. I asked the court, how about back child support for the last 2 years and they said, it wasn't ordered then so he doesn't have to pay...yeah kids aren't bills its more than just a bill...regardless if a dad pays or doesn't pay that child still has expenses that needs to be met.

My kids father can see his kids anytime he wants too, he chooses not to be a part of their lives. I can count on my hands how many times he has come down for a one day visit. Its been 12 and a half years. Btw I have a good job and I'm in college as well. One of my twins has epilepsy and developmental delays. So don't start hacking your mouth about something you have no clue about.
My kids mother told me "The ONLY thing you do for me is pay my rent" She later said that her rent was $1200/ month and my child support was $1600 a month. I am not only paying 100 percent of the housing cost for my kids. I am paying for their mom and their sister to with enough left over to pay for all of the food as well. How the fuck is this shit legal!?!?!

If a woman has a good job, but has to pay expensive fees for kindergarten, then those fees should be split 50/50. If she is a stay at home mum, because she feels she can give them the best start by giving them her time rather than working, that's ok too, and a man should pay for half of what it costs for childcare, plus keeping a roof over their heads until the mother is able to go back to work. The problem comes, when the woman becomes so vindictive, that she refuses to go back to work, even when the child has reached school age, and there are jobs out there that allow her to work during school hrs only. I believe a woman should work during school hrs and contribute her salary towards the child, therefore reducing the portion a man is asked to pay, as there are now 2 incomes, of which the courts should take into account.
At the end of day, both parents are responsible for the child/children and their are no happy children, when couples cannot sit down and agree a plan that works for both of them. Children pick up that tension and some grow up to be aggressive adults.
If a man earns more than the woman, he should pay a little more, likewise, if the woman has a job that makes more than the man, then she should contribute more. The Judges and Courts should not be allowed to make the final decision, because in most cases, they are biased.
I agree Zulkefli, and l do believe that Sweden has a much fairer system. The US however appears to be different in many ways, and is far worse than the UK. Don't forget the court system and Judges have a lot to gain because they don't give a damn about the father's, it's all about money, it's a dirty system.
I think a woman should do whatever she can to help support her children and look upon further monies from the father as a bonus. He does need to pay something in the same way he would have to if the couple were still together, but, to leave a man without enough money to put a roof over his bed, pay his bills, gas and work needs is a criminal. I have no time for women whose sole intention in life is to use the system to get as much as she can from him, and accept no financial responsibility.
Zulkefli, this is why the suicide rate is so high in the US, 25,000 a year l believe, and even though l am British, l don't really know the number in the UK, but here is a percentage. The politicians in the UK actually blame the men for not seeking mental help.

However, there are some women with good paying jobs having the same problem, and am aware that some women in this country have been driven into massive debt so their X partner can live the life he was accustomed too before they married. Don't even get me started on this one... I lost 2 properties because of the ex-wife. My wages are garnished for child support until my daughters each get their first degree. Forget about turning 18. I have a good job but I'm having to rent a room out of a house and work an extra business on the side to make ends meet. Imagine where this leaves a man in the dating market with other women. So many men who are married today have no idea they're going to become tomorrow's victim of the system. The laws on this matter NEED to change. Fast!

Many men can't get their child support payments reduced in many states because alot of courts don't care that these men are expected to pay out most of their wages and not be able to afford housing or food. It's a scam. Women aren't sent to prison when they don't pay their child support like a father is. The system is biased and corrupt. It shouldn't be based on income and some mothers don't actually spend child support on the children but themselves instead. The money should be given a different method to stop it being used on anything other than the child.

What's also annoying is the social consequences that are never accounted for; After the relationship ends, she's just a single mom who, as long as she doesn't let herself get fat, will find a line-up of beta males ready to ignore the fact that she made terrible life-decisions that resulted in her single raising of 2 children, ready to smash that pune and save the day. The father, however, is worthless now. A male's worth in the day and age is based solely on his ability to secure resources. No woman is going to find attractive some struggling father of two children living pay cheque to pay cheque, while also paying child support, unable to save money and therefor set goals. It's complete nonsense. It is all about money. I get along with my ex, but she makes 3 times what I do and I pay 45% of my check and only see them every other weekend, "depending on her schedule." Father's have no rights and you'll never see men marching on capitol hill to oppose these unfair, one sided, unbalanced, biased, unequal, bogus laws. Though maybe it needs to happen. She never stopped working. Didn't lose a day's income. Here's the kicker. The state I'm in is different than the state she's in. So the state I'm in doesn't recognize the $1200 payment. I get no credit for it. Yes, it catches it up in her state, but my state still shows I have to pay it through the state's agency. You say, "well know that's not correct?" Lol some of you have no idea how child support works. Especially an out of state case. See my state sees me as a client and her state as their client. I can't pay her state directly. It must go through my state or it still shows delinquent. Why? There's some money being made by states on Child support. It's a fuc... government racket. This is why men are forced to take the law in their own hands. I don't recommend harming anyone and wouldn't myself, but I can see how the government can drive a man to do something that extreme. My kids turns 18 in 2 months and I'll never have to pay cs. It doesn't take 20k dollars a year to raise a child that's already in a home that nets over 90k dollars a year. I'm scraping to buy noodles and they take vacations all over the world. Here's some advice. I love my children and wouldn't change them being born, but if you decide to have kids, do it when you're older and have had time to live your life. Save plenty of money and do not tell a soul. It sure is gender bias. When My father had custody of me when I was 11 they tried to arrest him for not paying child support.. Uh hello!! He had custody me!! The heck.
I can relate to that. My ex and the meth-street gang she ran around with once kidnapped my son and tried to get a ransom out of me. When I refused to pay they went straight to the courts (who took her side for reasons I'll never understand) and ordered me to give her monthly payments. After almost five years we managed to nail her on child neglect, sexual abuse, narcotic manufacturing, and a bunch of other stuff and FINALLY managed to recover my son and bring him home. The courts, on the other hand, STILL want me to keep paying that ransom in monthly installments or they're going to try to put me in jail.

In Michigan, they use a computer program to determine child support. One of the questions asked during the data entry is; Is it a man paying woman or woman paying man??? Now, why do you think that is??? Because it is not a fair system. And this is from a guy who got custody of two little girls. I did however receive child support. A whopping $50 a week of for 2 kids. And woman say they want to be treated as equals...what a load.

Everyman should pay support. But it should be based on income & time each parent spends with the child. Their should be a cap on the amount of child support can be paid. Plus the one whom receives support it should be counted as earned income.

I'm a Father that raised my son alone from the age of 10 his mother took off without a word had no contact. When My son turned 22 his mother filed for arrears and is now getting $500 per Month.. When I took it to court 3 times the Judge didn't even look at me. after presenting my case he said it doesn't change the facts of the case and ruled against me. Now can anyone on any planet explain to me how : as this Judge said" It is extremely fair?

One guy who was in jail when his baby mama filed child support ended up back in chail for non payment. turned out it wasnt his kid.. fine they let him off the hook for 90,000 in child support.. Guess what, he still owes the courts 30,000 dollars in processing fees and is not getting out of it.

The more money a state collects in child support the more federal funding they receive so it's more beneficial for the state to collect as much as possible. Is absolutely biased. I have custody of my oldest daughter and receive $50/mo after the state takes their cut I get about $38 I pay support for my youngest and the first year was charged $850/mo. It's ridiculous
Do average cost per month per sq foot required per child, assuming 20 sqft a month for the first two years, so approximately $50 a month for rent. Food, $100 a month for the kid. $50 a month for clothing, as NORMAL people buy clothes irregularly, I buy new clothes once a year, and spend less than $200 doing so, a year. $200 a month for child support as an infant to toddler state is fair. If they want to take the child, this is a fair percentage of the cost. The parent paying support should have fair rights, my sister took her kids out shopping for everything they needed, every two weeks when she got to see them, but still paid $3600 a month in support? For two kids that didn't have new clothes except when their mom bought them, didn't get school supplies except when she bought them??? Wtf is this?
Let's go back to the 1940s-1950s+ when females didn't have a voice
The rules are out of wack but they have to protect the children too. My father walked out on my mother, he hasn't payed child support my entire life. Never met him. And he keeps running from the payments. I'm in college now and that money could help so much, but i never see a thing.
An example: Let's go with Florida, since I'm not familiar with CS practices in other states. Assume that both parents bring in 24k/year... 50% of the father's earned income is seized by the state and given to the mother. Now, the dad must find a way to live on 12k/year while mom brings in 36. Living on a thousand bucks/month doesn't leave room for much... It can be argued that the father could earn more, but the state will just seize more money. Fail to pay, they'll take EVERYTHING. It's not about the parents or child(ren), it's a government scam.
Mom isn't required to work, man is. If the man's employer doesn't submit the ordered support. They go after dad. Economy goes to hell and can't hold a job, no food stamps for dad, but mom gets it and isn't working.
Too bad women don't force custody of children on men like they force child support on them. Not all of us would choose to raise our kids by the "rent" system. I got custody of mine after a hard battle and did not lower myself to a child support recipient. Much less hatred and trouble that way.

It's so sad that women do this to fathers :( my mom and dad got divorced when I was only 3 years old , I'm about to be 21 years old in two weeks . So my mother will no longer be getting money from my dad , my dad has been paying child support my ENTIRE life . To be honest I think my mom and dad made an agreement between the two of them that my dad would just pay $100 a month the past few years . However growing up I never really saw any money and I kind of always wondered where this money was going.... Another thing too is that I was kicked out of my house right when I turned 18 by my step father and I was actually homeless for a few months , began to take care of myself with NO help from my mom or step dad or anyone at all and guess what my dad HAS STILL BEEN PAYING MY MOTHER these past 3 years that I've been taking care of myself ! Child support guidelines should be deviated based on the non custodial parent's state of residence as well. We pay child support based on NYC pay but MA living expenses. Pay in NYC is high because living expenses are astronomical but state of MA doesn't take that into account. Instead they assume that the person with that check pays the same low rate of living expenses as the MA resident.
Well let's see. 80 % of women file for divorce, women get custody 90 % or more 9f the time, and most fathers only get to see their children four to six days a month. Yea child support is a RIP off of fathers.
When I paid for all of my childs and their mothers expenses I only speant about an extra $200 per month. Now that she left she demanded $1,550 per month. Half my income. When in court she asked how I knew what it took to provide for a child. I responded with "Because I did it for two years straight and now you are suddenly an expert?" Long story short I was only ordered to pay $214 per month. Based off her income and expenses and my income and expenses. The sad thing is I used to give her $500+ and go 50/50 on all extra expenses. Now I just pocket that extra money and wait for when my kid needs tuition for college.
If the women cant afford to take care of there children then they are not a fit parent. Period!
Child support should be abolished
People need to challenge child support after the age of majority as unconstitutional. There is no evidence to support forcing non married parents to pay for support and college versus not being “legally able” to force married parents to pay support and educational expenses for an adult.

Mom works part time at work and makes $200 from child support. No wounder she does not make enough she works part time. She should get a full time job then she won’t need that $800 a month or $1,000. that’s not her child support she’s using his money basically to live her life and for children so she does not have to work.

They careless from the beginning or when the relationship is over. The only have to pay child support if it's forced and most don't pay in full. All of my friends who are supposed to get child support are getting nothing. There are some fathers that fight for their children and the judge just gives the mom custody when the father can take better care of the children. But here is the thing with some women who have deadbeat baby fathers, some of them already saw he had one or several children he wasn't taking care of. What did they expect? For 7 years I got raped with child support and if I missed even one payment there is hell to pay!!! I have missed one payment in the seven years do to a major injury to the point that I had to take 6 weeks off work. They did not care that I was not working and was not making money. All they cared about was money. I'm happy to say that after 7 years I now have full custody of my son. It has only been a few months. However in this time. My ex-wife has not even made one child support payment and do you know what's being done to her??? NOTHING!!!!! So yes the system is fucked!!! My girlfriend hits me and kicks me, as well as destroys my property, I want to leave desperately, however we have a 6 month old child and In my state If you make 2500 a month you would need to pay 600 dollars for your child, with a little one bedroom apartment coming in at 1000 a month minimum plus utilities making it around 1200 a month, add a car payment, food costs, general expenses, you are maxed out with no buffer zone, effectively a slave living in a one bedroom apartment. so 1900 a month working a full time job and you dont even get to see your child everyday. Meanwhile women get federal subsidies and child support (which is FAR more than the actual cost) but men have no assistance once the relationship ends, and have to deal with the emotional torment of leaving your child, and watching as another man comes and plays daddy to your child. Do you really think an infant costs 600 a month? Child support destroys men financially, and given the feminist leanings of the court system you are held captive regardless of the circumstances. If custody is shared, women are not ordered to pay child support. Visitation is not enforced but you better believe payment is or you can go to PRISON, have your DL revoked, no passport, no nothing. I know a guy that has 2 kids and divorced. She got to keep the house ($300 grand) and everything in it. He is living in a tiny bachelor apartment, eating kraft dinner every day because between child support and alimony, he has barely anything left. The court said he is responsible for upkeeping his ex wifes quality of life. What about his quality of life? It's not even the child support necessarily in that case but the alimony.

I don't agree with the court's goal of keeping the ex-wife's "quality of life" at the level of the marriage. Both parties lose in divorces, after all. Alimony should be limited to a couple of years so an ex can get employment sufficient to establish an okay lifestyle. My ex made 10x my income at the time of our divorce. He paid no alimony and only had to pay 2 years of child support.

Not have Big Brother set an amount so they can take a cut and throw him in jail if he cant meet it. That is madness. And it shows how little America knows about there rights under the U.S. constitution. Most fathers will do for there children without being told to. And the ones that won't are few and far between. Either way, they are making procreation out to be a crime if you think about it. And murderers are rapists are treated more fairly in court then fathers. At least they get due process and are protected against double jeopardy. When a father cant pay, he goes to jail for six months to a year (same as robbery) and after he is released he will be picked right back up and jailed if he cant find work.
