Phil and Jess, Great job! Thanks for wearing gloves Phil! A few things to answer some of questions raised in the video. While the odour may be “strong” it’s not necessarily dangerous. DIY Detail and C6 Ceramics coatings are designed for safety. The VOC’s are very low, and they are some of the only coatings that are not considered dangerous goods for air shipping. The other thing that added is you were actually putting it on too thick. As mentioned in the video you only need to get it on the surface, not flood the surface. After the initial 8-12 drops on the first panel, only 2-3 drops per panel is required. Also circular motions can make installation easier.
@diydetailofficial I have your 5 year and found the cross hatch pattern to work better as the coating flashes very fast. I found I was able to cover more area quicker without the pad starting to grab.... my overall experience was great very easy to use and flashes in under 1 minute and has self leveling properties.
I self installed the eight year ceramic coating on my car two years ago. It was my first coating ever and honestly, it was very user friendly!! Great video as I like this 4 Runner. The DIY coatings are super easy to install and I am glad to see you wore gloves. How are your hands after using gloves? The coatings are potent smelling and I always keep my garage door up when coating. When I first used the red applicator pad I went back and used the microfiber pad the next time. Just yesterday I was thinking I need to order more of the red applicator pads as they do grow on you. You guys always got great durability with the NSP polishes and Crystal Serum Light. I expect the same or better durability with DIY 8 year coating and look forward to the maintenance washes. The 4 Runner looks amazing and thank you for the video.
Thanks man. Well I washed my hands right away and they didn’t break out that bad, only a little and it went away after a week or so. Unfortunately they didn’t want the maintenance from us. So I have no idea when I’ll see this again.
That 4-Runner got the works. Looked great. I have a good friend who loves DIY coatings and the 8 year is the easiest to use they said. Can see it better.
I need to put the DIY coating on my purchase list it really looks user friendly. Have you ever used the Adam’s Advance Graphene coating, I am thinking about giving it a try….any comments or suggestions.
Do you like the blo hand dryer? How do you like it compared to other hand dryers or larger dryers? How is the sound? I mostly towel dry my cars, but consider buying a hand dryer to blow out debris from the interior. And to flush out water from nooks and crannies on the exterior.
Hi. Yes it will get swirls and possibly scratches from years of use. So the customer may want it redone within that 8 years. But that’s where proper maintenance is key. It can go 8 years with minimal swirls and scratches, it comes down how the owner cares for it.
@@MirandaDetailing thanks for the info. I think I’d probably try to polish out minor scratches every 2 - 3 years. So I’d probably be fine with maybe a 3 year.
Hey Phil, Ive been on the fence about trying this coating out but I was a little hesitant due to the price being a little higher than others and knowing full well no coating lasts 8 years in real life conditions thats just the lab testing rating. This video made me decide to go ahead and try it out, thanks.🤝
Hi. That’s cool. It’s a higher priced coating but it’s also a pro level coating. On par with Gtechniq CSU and Gyeons Infiniti coatings, they too are also expensive coatings but can only be purchased by authorized detailers through those companies. So now an 8 year coating can be purchased by the consumer. Pretty impressive.
@@MirandaDetailing you’re right, that’s a good point I didn’ think about. I’m definitely going to try it now. I guess now that they released C6 ceramics that would technically be their professional line of coatings that can only be applied by authorized installers.
Agree, that DIY coatings are easy to apply and work with, excellent slickness as well, I used this on a lexus cross over. I am little surprised that the product is not able to cover the entire car, i had to open second bottle, where you able to cover all the car?
Hi. That’s awesome! Oh yeah these coatings can be spread very very thin. You can get at least 2 vehicles out of one bottle. Even I apply it a little heavy, but that’s just my own method. Use only 10 drops or so on each panel and cover the entire panel. It will go a long ways.
I used the diy 3 year grapheme coating, it worked well, saw the customer after 3 months, washed it and deconed it then boosted it with grapheme detail spray, it had some degradation of water beading on the lower parts of the doors. No coating lasts even 3 years, but with maintained , it will make it last longer. It is a good coating but in my personal experience years should not be put on coating, but possibly, a gloss or water-beading level. Their are so many variables, weather, how was it washed , was in taken threw a car wash once a week? That’s why their is no guarantee ,it makes maintenance easier for sure. Have you guys used any good polymer waxes? If so which ones? Love your videos, it’s funny I do a lot of the same procedures you do in your detailing routine, great job!
Hi. We have customers vehicles going past 3 years with Gtechniq’s CSL. It really depends on a lot of factors but washing regularly makes a huge difference.

Our ceramic coating service include a lot. Wash, Decon, paint enhancement polish, then we coat the paint, glass, face of the wheels, plastic trim. We will just switch up the coating from either a one year to 7-10 year and charge accordingly.
I put on DIY Detail "The Stack (8yr+3yr)", great experience for my first coating on my MDX! I love the red DIY applicators. Not a fan of the noise it makes at first, but love the strap, it's reversible too and the squeeze factor is a plus. Question about a topper for it. I put The Stack on the car about a month ago, should I put a topper on it like DIY Ceramic Gloss for the heck of it or should I wait until it is showing signs of degrading first? If so, should I use it as a drying aid each time I wash the car? I do enjoy using the leaf blower with the coating for drying! Thanks!
So you’re saying that If I use that Dr Beasley‘s 45 I won’t have to do a panel wipe. I’m getting ready to redo my truck.. gonna be difficult to redo my truck because I do not have a garage. And between the pollen and the bird droppings, it’s very difficult.thanks again!

Hi. I don't remember what soap I used, but usually i just choose what ever soap I have in my cabinets, doesn't have to be a decon soap exactly. Our Pre wash/APC rinse is what really cleans the paint before we contact wash it.
Thank you Phil for your quick response. So, I can use any soap with some super clean in? Also, when it comes to wet sanding. Which grid do you used first? I’m trying to fix some of the rock chips on my paint. Thank you again. And keep up with the good videos and information.
It's claims like 8 years and statements from Yvan I've seen on other channels where his opinion seems to be that we've all been detailing incorrectly that have left me avoiding this brand.
Hi. They are just trying to help new Detailers avoid a lot hype and silly mistakes. I don’t agree with everything they say, because my experience has shown otherwise. But then again many Detailers have their processes and methods that they swear by and teach others also, sometimes it’s just personal opinion or choice and other times it’s based on reality and facts. Doesn’t matter to me. I always tell people to do what works for them. I only avoid people if they are truly toxic and unreasonable. But Yvan and Nick are good people.
@@MirandaDetailing Thank you there are many ways to detail, but there is no best way to detail. What’s important is that it’s fun, safe, and has a satisfied customer at the end.
Hoe much did you charge for this job brother? Lotta work for sure. If you dont wanna tell me can you atleast ballpark it? Trying to figure out my service charges thanks so much! ❤great content
Hi. OUr 2 year coating service starts at $1200, 5 year at $1500 and 7-10 year coatings at $2000. This includes, washing, deconing, polishing, and coatings on the paint, plastic, wheels and glass. we usually include a basis interior cleaning also.
Do you think a ceramic coating is worth it for someone that washes his car on a weekly basis? The more I learned about ceramic coatings over the years, the more disappointed I got. All those old claims about resistance against light scratches and stone chips were debunked. Also saw some videos with one of those paint thickness gauge demonstrating that ceramic coatings don’t add even one micron to the paint’s thickness (they used gyeon pure in the demonstration), so the claim of a “sacrificial layer” when polishing the car seems false as well. So, honestly, I just can’t see the real difference from a “top mega pro max” ceramic coating and a ceramic spray sealant used on a regular basis, hence my question in the beginning. Keep up the good work, love your videos!
@fredrbcc I still think coatings are worth it. I'm also a weekly washer and my coating is amazing. It makes maintenance so much easier not mention the prep and application were very fun. Some newer companies advertise high thickness like Armour Detail Supply says their quartz coating is 2-3 microns and I believe especially if you layer it. You're also getting more hardness from a coating but of course they can't protect against rock chips. The sacrificial layer just means that it will protect your paint from scratches so when your coating does get a light scratch that can be buffed off and you don't have to cut into your clear coat. I've got coatings going strong after years and I don't have to reapply sprays or toppers I just keep it clean and decon every once in a while. Paying a pro thousands to do it when you can do it yourself that's up to you. A lot of user friendly coatings on the market these days.
Hi. Unfortunately, marketing for coatings has really messed up peoples understanding of what the benefits are.Its not about scratch or swirl resistance, or thickness. The main benefit of a coating is the ease of maintenance. I have been maintaining vehicles with coatings and they are extremely easy to wash and keep clean longer. But if you are really keeping up on washing and sealing your vehicle regularly than you may not want a coating. But Coatings definitely are amazing for those who want intense beading and easy washing for years to come.
Unfortunately unscrupulous companies have claimed all sorts of things about coatings, and detailers have simply repeated what they were told. Coatings do not prevent scratches, stone chips, marring , or lack of maintenance. Coatings do make the vehicle much easier to clean, are very chemically resistant, and of course look better. Here’s a video you may find interesting th-cam.com/video/5St7YxOJANY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OThN377G-1sIKfr1
Hi man, i like your videos But you use too much product I get at least 4 cars out of one bottle Ten drops on the pad to prime it, after that, one or to drops Circular motions You should watch how Yvian does it Do bigger sections, and fast Just a tip You have think differently I have the Nsp as well But i use Tac system water based polish And the "APP" developed to C6 ceramic The pro line to Yvan You will do a car much faster with less products 30 minutes to coat a car 10:42
That’s fine. You do you man. It’s so funny, many people have said I go too fast and know too slow. 🤣🤣🤣 in truth it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks. We get these coating jobs done in a morning and then chill or go biking in the afternoon. So as far as timing goes I’m not concerned, we only do one vehicle per day anyway. I have worked with Yvan in person and I know his methods very well. It’s ok, I have my own methods that work very well for us. You can continue to do it your way since it works for you, but each Detailer will have their own methods that work for them for their own reasons.
It would be lucky to last 8 months in Florida without a garage/carport sitting in the elements 24/7 Consumers are tiring of these outrageous bogus durability claims.
@@MirandaDetailing you know I'm right but you can't be honest because Yvan could be lurking in the comments and you don't want to offend him because he probably sent it to you for a glowing review ?
You did hear me say twice in the video that even I was skeptical right? I also don’t agree with everything Yvan says or does… I’m not paid by him or anything. 🤣 why would you say something like that?
How do they know it’s 8 years? Have they tested it with a Time Machine? Lol love their DIY content, but they are marketing geniuses. I won’t fall for it. But good luck to the viewers and their company. ☝️
Well Yvan has been in the detailing industry for over 40 years, he has helped develop tons of tools, products, and methods over the those years. He knows what formulas work, how they work, why they work, etc. Pretty awesome!
I'm sure Yvan will chime in about that. its not always about testing, its about chemical formulation knowledge and application. It's mostly math and chemistry. but I'm sure their is much more that goes into it. Honestly it doesn't make a difference to me, I trust the people who have been educating the detailing industry for decades.
I think they have a video on their TH-cam page and they tested this ceramic in a tunel wash, which is the worst for a coating, and after 100 washes still it was there. And is not that expensive and it’s easy to apply. I bought the 5 years one because I didn’t find this on stock. Time will tell us👍
I share your thoughts on life of a coating, but did have a chance to talk to a someone that does work for a testing company. The can create samples that they run a series of tests to mimic conditions that it will endure. From these tests they project possible life assuming those tests. Pure science but again your mileage will vary.
Phil and Jess, Great job! Thanks for wearing gloves Phil!

Only wearing gloves for coatings, I don't wear them for anything else really. Even the respirator was a little much, actually hurt my lungs more to use it. oh well
Beautifully done 🤝
Thanks a lot 😊
You two did another great job on this 4Runner. I'm gonna have to make the trip up to guys one day (all the way from South Florida) because your knowledge, professionalism and enthusiasm are one of the many things that I enjoy watching and would love to support. Or maybe I'll just try to replicate y'alls technique as close as possible, lol
P.S. My May Glovebox from the giveaway already got delivered, and once the weather clears up, I'm excited to try out the Pure:Est products!
Thanks! That’s awesome about the glovebox! Enjoy!
Phil, what kind of Decon car shampoo do you use?

I’ve heard this is their easiest to apply coating from their line. I haven’t made up my mind what my first coating will be yet
Yeah All of their coatings are super easy to apply!
@@MirandaDetailing what coating would you recommend a first timer for a commuter car that’s outside 24/7? I do try to wash it once per week.
I would recommend Gtechniq’s EXOv5 it’s super easy to apply and it’s a 2 year coating.
Thanks I’ll look into that one
Nice
You coat the plastic as well
1/3 to max a 1/2 of that bottle should be more than a enough
Hoe much did you charge for this job brother? Lotta work for sure. If you dont wanna tell me can you atleast ballpark it? Trying to figure out my service charges thanks so much! ❤great content
Hi. OUr 2 year coating service starts at $1200, 5 year at $1500 and 7-10 year coatings at $2000. This includes, washing, deconing, polishing, and coatings on the paint, plastic, wheels and glass. we usually include a basis interior cleaning also.
@@MirandaDetailing I appreciate it very much! You guys deserve every bit of it
Aha I saw the NOCO
NOCO?
im sure its a nice coating but $160 is a lot when i can get Cquartz for $60
Hi. Sure that’s totally fine. Cquartz is an awesome coating also. It comes down to personal choice, budget, and the durability of the coating.
We have our 3 year coating at $60
Do you think a ceramic coating is worth it for someone that washes his car on a weekly basis?
Here they say up to seven minute flash time, at least 5 minute
When you wipe it, nothing should be left in the towel
8 years 🥱🥱😆😆 wise up plus it’s very expensive too
What do you mean?
Hi man, i like your videos
But you use too much product
I get at least 4 cars out of one bottle
Ten drops on the pad to prime it, after that, one or to drops
Circular motions
You should watch how Yvian does it
Do bigger sections, and fast
Just a tip
You have think differently
I have the Nsp as well
But i use Tac system water based polish
And the "APP" developed to C6 ceramic
The pro line to Yvan
You will do a car much faster with less products
30 minutes to coat a car 10:42
That’s fine. You do you man. It’s so funny, many people have said I go too fast and know too slow. 🤣🤣🤣 in truth it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks. We get these coating jobs done in a morning and then chill or go biking in the afternoon. So as far as timing goes I’m not concerned, we only do one vehicle per day anyway. I have worked with Yvan in person and I know his methods very well. It’s ok, I have my own methods that work very well for us. You can continue to do it your way since it works for you, but each Detailer will have their own methods that work for them for their own reasons.
4 cars from one bottle? You must be spreading vapour on the panels. That's stretching it way too far.
That respirator looks a pain in the backside 😁good old health and safety 😉
Yup
It would be lucky to last
8 months in Florida without a garage/carport sitting in the elements 24/7
Consumers are tiring of these outrageous bogus durability claims.
Would the vehicle at least be washed regularly or just sitting?
@@MirandaDetailingwashed weekly
I’m waiting to see how the testing is done for their C6 ‘lifetime’ coating. 🤔
What is going on Phil you have gloves on now? Thought you could not wear gloves?
Yeah, For coatings I will wear them and only for a short time.
@@MirandaDetailing interesting
@jeremya2871 yeah, not really happy about it, but oh well.
@@MirandaDetailing ok more interesting? Then why?
@@Jaysmobiledetailn probably because I’ve been telling him just how dangerous coatings are for him, and I’m sure I’m not alone.
Bring back the John Wyck beard👀
😁😎👍🏼
