I got married in 1966 and took my exes last name. We had 4 children.
After our divorce, he had the marriage annulled and offered to pay for me to give up the name. I said okay, but you have to pay to have all 4 kids' names changed to match mine since (in the eyes of the church) you just made them all bastard children.
He gave up. I don't especially like the name, but you don't disrespect the nearly 20 years I contributed to a marriage.

I do wish the protesters would approach them in a way that gets them to open up and see that we care about how they are treated. And let them know there is love, freedom and hope out of the cult.
I couldn't agree more. Some are so brash and loud, and it's got to be having the opposite effect on those people. Pearl Snappy is one who is a decent person but can be too brash.

a lot of them do. everyone has their own protest style. the more brash ones I believe are focused more on keeping people from JOINING Scientology which is a valid approach, but there certainly are those who focus on reaching out to those on the inside to offer a way out.
I do get that some of them will never leave no matter what. I also realize that some Scientologist are very nasty people, but I think some of the behavior of the protesters just seems to reinforce the cult members belief that everyone outside the cult is a horrible degraded being. I will admit there are some Scientologist I could not treat with any respect and I would have to just walk away.

If you want to get into Cult of Mormanism, I found these videos very compelling and so much like scientology. The Occult Rejects channel has last 2 shows titled Mormanism, CIA, Rotary, Yale (Skull & Bones) & More they even have their own OSA! This exmorman has gone down deep and interesting rabbit holes.
I ended up in the SPTV universe after a rabbit hole starting with "Mormon Stories Podcast"...
I kept my last name. Because this isn't the 1950s. My dad isn't selling me to my husband. My husband couldn't afford me in any case. 😂
I'm a teacher and changed my last name because as much as I fought it people called me Mrs. Dad's name. I'm not married to my dad, so I changed it. That was just my reaction. Ha

I learned EVERYTHING from The Aftermath AFTER it went to Netflix, when I was home from restaurant work during the Covid shutdown.
I have been married twice. The first time I kept my married name after the divorce because I didn't want the awkwardness of my kids going to school and me having a different last name. Although I guess now that's not a thing. The second time, I also took his name because I was so proud to be his wife. Maybe I'm a trad widow I don't know but even when he died I still am so proud to have his last name.

Catching up on lots of replays. Natalie, you look great! I know that Tony is proudly watching over you. By the way, I completely freaked out a Scientologist trying to hand me a flyer in downtown Denver. I looked her strait in the eyes and said, "Are you kidding me?! Do you know you are in a cult? Scientology is a cult!" A lot of people were around and then stared at her. She literally tripped over herself trying to get away. Her eyes looked terrified. Ultimately I feel bad for her. Hope she can get out.

I took my husband's last name when we got married because my maiden name was too common and Dr's offices could never find me right away. So now if they don't spell my married name right, they can't find me. So it was a trade off.

My wife took my name by her choice. I preferred it that way but I didn’t demand it or let her know my preference. She just changed her middle name to be her maiden name. It’s perfect. I love it.

I've had sensation/memories/experiences that I can only attribute to a past life. like one time I was listening to a concert of gregorian chant in a local church, and was hit with a full body sense memory of needing to conform in order to hide. it came completely out of nowhere, and was exactly that specific - no more and no less. where/when/why, I have no idea. I have a guess, based at least in part to other impressions I've had, but nothing more concrete. nothing that could tie it to any one time or place.
I intend to marry a man with a short last name so I don't have to keep spelling my last name and explaining Dad was adopted so I'm not actually that nationality

I didn't change my name for years but ultimately changed it because my children had my husband's last name, and I wanted us to be a family unit. In retrospect, I wish I would have gone with my gut and hyphenated my name. I'm not too torn up about the decision though, since my dad is one of only like 5 people I really like from his side lol.

So, I definitely believe in a higher power. I was raised Catholic but i try to just live life like this, the Bible is the oldest book in the world, fact. Jesus was here, fact. Now I can't recite one quote verbatim from the Bible but when I hear ppl quoting it I tend to feel like, ya, ok I can't really argue w that. And I try to live by the 10 commandments cuz like it's pretty much like listen to your mother and father don't kill anybody don't lie to people don't mess around with other people's wives and so when you got 10 things that you can't really argue about that make sense in a normal person's life I feel like you kind of have to live under some sort of umbrella like of things that I would or wouldn't do and that sort of simplifies it for me but then there's some gray areas like I don't believe any baby should be aborted I think adoption should be way easier but then I also feel like it should be the choice of the woman if she does not want to carry that baby because she was raped or whatever then that's on her let her make that choice
First on reincarnation no I do not believe in cremation. I am a Christian. And I believe that each soul is individual and special and created to be who they are. Why would God recycle Souls. To me it takes the special uniqueness of a person's inner core their soul who they are away. I love all sorts of brain science .I watch anything about the human brain. People so underestimate the power of the human mind the brain. It explains deja vu and other things. There's a phenomenon called pareidolia it's when someone hears their name and no one is around. Hearing words or phrases in random sounds like a dog barking or a fan humming. This phenomenon is often attributed to the brain's tendency to recognize patterns and make sense of ambiguous stimuli.. it ruined all the Paranormal stuff for me it really did. There's one study where scientists had a blind man walk up and down the hallway a few times . Then without him knowing they placed stacks of books in different patterns and how to walk the hallway. He did not hit one book.. now that's a whole another study about blind people in how the ocular is the thing that is damaged what connects the image to the brain. And then some people something happens for it will actually form another pathway from the eye to the brain. But it cannot actually send a picture but they have a heightened sense of knowing that's something is different. The brain gets the audio part but not the visual part. Yes we do use more than 10% of our brain that's a myth we just don't use more than 10% at one given moment. We use 100% of our brains just not all at once. And yes I am a Christian I'm just want to believe that science was a gift from God. It is fun

I thought the mythology behind Scientology was more interesting. I was listening to Christian offshoot cults content and they kept assuming we knew basic things about Christianity that I don't know. And the ec Scientologists explained their terms and myths. The ex Christian cults didn't. So it was more interesting
When it comes to taking your husband's name I would want to take my husband's name. The reason is because I love him and I'm joining him in marriage. Like the ring is round it's a symbol of eternal love that's always connected. Now if you have a brand or a business and my personal . Plus I would want my children to have the name of our family even if it was hyphenated I'm 59 and the more Traditions break down the more effect it has on society. Hyphenated names they don't bother me at all. But a lot of these Traditions don't they're really not a need for them but I do think they stabilize Society. This world I've been a part of it for 59 years I do have a friend her name is Sharon and she was the only one to carry on the family name. That's how we follow family trees and history is by names. Clans, tribes and so on.
