39:57 this is a perfect illustration of the fundamental disconnect between the two debaters.
Mr Hannan here pointed out that wealthy capitalist countries take care of their nature better than poor capitalist countries, but that is not Zizek's point at all;his point is how can these poor countries become wealthy in the first place without resorting to the China/Singapore totalitarian model, which for all purpose is the most successful capitalist miracle of the 21st century.
And Mr.Hannan cannot answer this question honestly.Neither can any other liberal capitalists

Hannan is reading a text, a badly authored text, but still. how often did he perform his play?

Well yeah, you have to have something to focus on so you can keep a straight face when your argument is a string of fallacious cliches

Hannan: let's look at the facts!
Also Hannan: look at what Trotsky did in that parallel universe I just invented!

Its so painful listening to this debate.Zizek repeatedly acknowledged the death and brutality of classical communisn and said that he is a communist not in the sense of a revolutionary or USSR apologist but as someone who respected (part of ) Marxian analysis of society, especially in regards on the decay of liberal capitalism and the rise of a horrifying alternative in China
But mr.Hannan keep concentrating on the failed ideology that is communism instead of acknowledging its critiques of capitalism and how to solve them to prevent capitalism from descending into chaos or totalitarianism
Basically two men speaking on top of each other, not to each other

Zizek is a master of debate, starting with his strategy of agreeing first. Just to show something deeper and much more interesting.

Mr. Hannan is too emotional. He sounds pompous and dogmatic. I found it hard to listen to him.
Third world countries exist, Mr. Hannan. I live in a country where Pandemic hit and the rich got richer and the bourgeoisie married government and corporation have failed almost failed to feed the classes D and E (poorest of the poor which are the majority in my capitalist-run economy.)
I say ALMOST because mutual aid and solidarity became a thing amongst us, the citizens. We were branded by the government and corporations as "Communists" and/or Marxists "terrorists".
I guess they are, ironically, right. Communists "terrorists" have the better idea LOL.

hannan coming to slavoj with all of this prepared and leaving in all of his arse covering conditions was not a good look for him, not a good look at all.

It's kind of amazing how Hannan gets even the smallest facts wrong. "Marx never anyone, as far as we know; neither did Hitler." Hitler was in World War One! If he didn't kill someone it would be kind of shocking.
