    I'd like to notice that those "awful roads" are not even close to what Niva was made to successfully wade through.

      Used to see a lot of Nivas out in the Brazilian countryside (swapped with Toyota Diesels often enough since they were easier to get parts for and stronger) ... one road that now takes about an hour to traverse took about 8 hours about 20 years back. I've seen ruts 3-4 feet deep where the rain has washed out dirt roads and pot holes big enough to fit a VW beetle in.

      Funnily enough England and sub zero Russia don't have much in common... Green lanes are for tractors so the terrain is never going to be awful

      I hope not, I was thinking of getting a niva but I dont want it jamming up from a little bit mud like an AK47.
      No I am not sarcastic, its an urban myth that AK's can fire through anything, a little bit of mud will jam them.
      Big tolerances mean alot of junk can get in there (no it doesn't all fly out when you shoot)

      RobinLikeABoss, definitely, for my 1st car when I move to the European Union w/in the next few years from the USA (The USA is incredibly corrupt, corporatist & is going to shit), the Lada Niva will be on the top of my shopping list. The Lada Niva has been in production since 1976/1977 w/little changes, except for in appearance. Just like you, I'd like a Lada Niva from the 1980s; I like the older Lada Nivas better than the newer 1's b/c I think they look better in terms of design of the back lights & interior.

The Netherlands is 1 of the best countries in terms of civil liberties, human rights, happiness, education, democracy, internet, healthcare, marketplace regulations, environmental protection, food, etc. Look up the statistics for these things & you'll find that the Netherlands is among the top 10 in these things while the USA is far behind in most of these categories.

    Greetings from the United States.
    I've been researching the Lada Niva for quite sometime and wish it would be imported here to the states! Unfortunately, due to the stern safety and emissions requirements, it won't be distributed here. But judging by its reviews and responses, the Niva is an excellent bare basic little 4X4.! Wish I could own one!

    indeed NIva is one of the best off road cars, maybe even the best, i have tested this car up in the mountains, in the roads you you cannot even call them roads. it's nos so much comfortable and luxury, but it drives everywhere

  • @ChrisM777
    @ChrisM777 10 ปีที่แล้ว +50

    Lada Niva takes all the shit you give it to him.
    You can jump it, drive it thro mudpool, crash it into trees, climp it everywere, you dont have to worrie about electronics, you can drive with old-ass oil in it, you can put crappy gas in it, you can hammer it, very cheap parts when someday something goes wrong. Its absolute tank.
    Do you get luxuries in tank? No!
    But you can get it very cheap and you dont have to service it.
    I know it all, because i have 2 of them.
    You can buy older Nivas with like 1000€ in my contry.

    • @ChrisM777
      @ChrisM777 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And its a hell of a Off-Roader. It can leave behind Land Rovers, Jeeps, Rams and all the other bullshit, because Lada Niva is very light and small.

      I use my 850 for towing and moving my kayak. I'm an outdoors person, since i like to paddle and ride my mountain bike or go fishing somewhere in the middle of the wilderness. I think that Niva at least as a second car would work for me, since the roads I drive sometimes are at the limit my car can barely handle.

    • @ChrisM777

      +106342533006378252445 That's your opinion. But Lada Niva is classic Off-road car with the best suspension.
      Of course, the motor is not too strong, 1.7, but it's too OK for this Lada.

    • @KretinoSantino
      @KretinoSantino 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      +Ismail Alili Jeep Wrangler can't be best offroad car. With each generation it gets heavier and heavier. Heavy short wheelbase offroad isn't really good idea, bit of mud and easily you'll end up with 0 wheels on solid gravel, no trackion and sinking.
      Also, you can no longer fix anything on Wrangler by yourself in the woods.
      What makes Niva still great is that it did remain dead simple vehicle.

    • @Konformation07
      @Konformation07 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +El Shuwix Only an idiot isn't able to track or fix a Jeep Wrangler out in the woods. I've owned 5 of them all being different generations. I've broken a few things (not a lot all because of my screw ups rock climbing them) and I have fixed them all.
      With that said it is getting more and more useless features but the 2 door at least with a manual still remains simple. I've owned a Niva as well and it's good. I have had no problems with it relatively but it doesn't seem any simpler than most of my Wranglers. It's definitely simple but so is the Jeep. They come in a wide range from simple to plush. I hate the plush ones to be honest.

    • @KretinoSantino
      @KretinoSantino 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Please sum up vital parts you can fix by yourself in the woods on new Wrangler.

      Ask mom to increase your pocket money so you can go out instead of writting retarded stories on YT.
      You didn't even seen engine bay of newer Wranglers.

    This probably was the best car that came out of the Soviets. Engineering principles were actually quite good for a capable non-luxurious off-road vehicle. Suspension had springs and shock absorbers and it had disc brakes. Later models had fuel injection. It was let down by a horrible build quality and very poor rust protection.

    • @turboseize
      @turboseize 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      That is not correct. Rust protection is not poor. It is non existant. :-D
      I am researching buying a Niva, actually. From all I can gather, build quality seems to be abysmally bad, and you read from a lot of people buying bran dnew ones and doing lots of trips to their mechanic to get the car fixed (once again).
      I think that sounds great: all the joys of classic car ownership - but with a brand new car. Oh, and I like the looks of it - and I like that it seems to be ridiculously capable offroad.
      No, I don't really need a Niva. But I desperately want it.

    Niva is an amazing car for its purpose. Many eastern European private hill houses were build with materials, that were hauled up the hill using a Lada Niva. Mud and snow did not stop this car. Another amazing car, that could ascend snowy roads without any problems was the Citroën CV4.

    Safety and comfort are main reasons why it's not. It is a 1976 car and it had a single update in 1993 which was about EFI instead of carb and restyled tail lights. No airbags and automatic transmission. Anyway it was an epic car for it's time and it was a beginning of absolute new class of car-based unibody SUVs ruling the market today. Nobody considered off-road vehicle as a daily ride before Niva. It showed a direction to other makers.

Nothing very unussual, but runs perfect in its 98370 km. This mileage costed a gearbox (500e), 2 sets of discs and one drums, a clutch and an ac compressor, this last was no bad because i mounted one out of a renault safrane which makes it a fridge...

    All independent suspension like an early Range Rover but half the weight made it a brilliant off road car. I always thought Lada should have partnered with a Western auto specialist to handle the superficial stuff (cabin refinements, emissions, marketing, etc, etc) because the car was a potential world beater. It's still a really nice niche vehicle.

I don't care how a car looks or how many gadgets it has. I want it to be a damn car. An off-roading 4x4 car that can handle pretty much anything I will encounter is a car I want. Throw a winch on it and get a snow plow for it and maybe a tow hitch for light towing and a bunch of off-roading lights and it will be set.
