Get More Rebounds NO MATTER Your Height

  • Rebounding, especially for shorter players, may be the most underrated component of the game. Realistically, who ever really talks about ways to get more boards? And while I have a feeling this video may not be as exciting to most... the ones who watch and apply these techniques will make the game a lot easier for themselves.

Knowing where the ball will fall after a rebound is also important. It's basically what Rodman did: study the trajectory of the ball & how it caroms off the rim/backboard and at which angles. Unless you do video study & diligently practice to incorporate rebounding different shots into your muscle memory, you will never become a truly great rebounder.
If you haven't really studied ball carom angles, you can just use some simple rule of thumbs to guess where the ball is going & avoid overthinking during a rebound scrum:
    1. Shots from corners will mostly rebound to the other side of the rim towards the other corner.
    2. Shots from one elbow will mostly rebound towards the other elbow.
    3. Close shots will typically rebound closer to the rim
    4. Farther shots will rebound farther from the rim
    5. Shots that hit the rim short (front of the rim) will more likely rebound closer to the rim
    6. Shots that hit the rim long (back of the rim) will more likely rebound farther from the rim
But to really get into the weeds of rebounding study, you need to study how the ball caroms off the rim depending on where it hits the rim. For example:
    - a shot the hits the front rim will rebound in different ways.
    - a shot the hits the front rim very short (basically in front of the rim) will rebound directly back to the area 3-5 feet in front of the basket, and at roughly the same angle.
    - a shot the hits the front rim less short (but still the front of the front rim)will rebound further away, about 5-10+ feet away, also at roughly the same angle.
    - a shot that hits the front rim slightly further (basically, on the other side of the front rim) will bounce towards the backboard. The rebound will likely go to the other side of the court at whatever angle it hits the backboard at. The ball may also bounce higher off the front rim, and will hit the backboard softer, meaning the rebound may be closer tor the rim
Coach Ayers gives a great suggestion of how to practice rebounding (during shootarounds). Use this opportunity to study where rebounds fall after shots from different angles and distances. This is also a great way to work on passing to a shooter's shot pocket. You can practice chest passes, bounce passes, hook passes, etc.

In middle school i learned about Dennis Rodman and he became one of my favorite players n i became a great rebounder watching him which at the time i was taller than most even those my height or taller i could still put rebound him n ppl were calling me “rebound king” 😂but as i got older i stayed the same height at 5’11 now so i don’t get as many as i was but i still have the skills and mindset to rebound thus making me a guard that can rebound very well
