Absolutely stunning photos. I loved every minute I was there. 1972-73. Amazing memories made, many made right where several of these were taken. Glorious to see. Long live the new excavation cliff jumpers! I was one. Now forever gone, part of the new Cocoli locks. Thanks for all.
All those pictures are a treasure trove. Thank you for loving my country. Whatever the politics or whoever the politician Panama will always have a special place for all of you who served there.
I loved your slide show! Born in the Canal Zone (Zonian), Balboa High school class of 1980. How I miss my beautiful Panama and all of my Canal Zone memories❤. Great job!
As a Panamanian, I can tell you one thing: There are thousands of Panamanians that'd like the Americans to come back to Panama and manage the Panama Canal again. Lots of Panamanians who have nothing to do with the politicians, used to make more money for their businesses thanks to the American military bases. Today, only the politicians are making big bucks with the Canal.
@@BudTristano I'm not speaking about rabiblancos, my friend. They are important for a free economy, I mean, the politicians in charge of every government are the ones making a killing, while there are children still starving in Panama, that is so gross!
I was stationed there at Ft. Clayton from 1978 to 1980 and I absolutely loved Panama. It was such a beautiful country and the canal zone rocked, I also loved going to downtown Panama as well. ❤
Did you retire in Panamá? I returned from there last week to U.S, touring Panama City on Dec. 8th. Because it was Mothers' Day and most businesses were closed, I could only view esclavas from outside the chain fences. I did see the military housing units where the U.S. servicemen stayed. The Panamanians seem very thankful to have the Canal as theirs.
Many Panamanians are Grateful to the US for transferring the canal. If it were not for Jimmy Carter it would not have happened, Unfortunately most Panamanian schools teach a biased and anti American history of US-Panama relations. Even the 1903 independence from Colombia is not taught objectively.
As a Panamanian with American citizenship I'm sorry to say that the millions produced by the Panama Canal are not reaching the poor people of Panama, only politicians are reaping the profits. La pura verdad.
The Americans should have stayed in the Panama Canal Zone and also maintain control of The Panama Canal. Corruption, political and economic interest reign in the current and past administrations of the Panama Canal by the Panamanian government. They just care about their own interests. How much money they (the politicians) can take from the Canal to benefit themselves. The Panamanian People do not perceived any gain (money) from The Panama Canal.

Was there 1976-1979 with HHC 193rd Inf Bde. work in Bldg 519, Fort Clayton. Best duty assignment in my whole army career.
Same here. Howard 1977-79. We would rent our tanks from the scuba shop at Clayton.

@@rogerzimet Thank you for the distinction. Sorry to hear about that situation. As they say, "follow the money".

No, I haven't retired there ... it's still a possibility.

PANAMÁ : " SMALL COUNTRY BUT IS A VEAUTIFUL GREAT COUNTRY "
BRIDGE OF THE WORLD , HEARTH OF THE UNIVERSE !
MY COUNTRY " PANAMÁ " IS MORE THAN A CANAL
Yes!

Nostalgia😢
Did people in the Canal Zone ever consider creating their own FIFA national team?
