I bought the 45 Colt adapter for my single barrel 12 gauge. Works great. Much more accurate than I expected.

Years ago a friend of mine purchased a used Sears brand, single barrel/single shot 12guage at a pawn store in our home town for about $35.00 if memory serves (it's been a while so I'm not 100% certain as it may have been $10.00 higher or lower than I recall). Dave carried that shotgun in his truck for a while on his farm loaded with 00 buck or "punkin' ball" slugs before deciding it needed a "little work". In relatively short order he produced the shotgun that would, in it's final form, serve him well while backpacking, canoeing, and even to take several nice deer and feral hogs/wild boar and at least four tom turkeys that I know of. Once Dave finished personalizing that old shotgun it closely resembled the MP-18 featured in this video with the major differences being that he used camo tape on the stock and forearm, attached a sling and swivels to the wooden stock and forearm and scrounged up some rifle (Winchester 94 type I think) sights for the barrel, and painted the barrel a sort of OD green using a spray can he purchased at a yard sale. Dave passed away a few years ago but his oldest son still has it and uses it just as his Dad did in it's "final form" to this day and with the same kind of confidence and success.

Thanks for sharing this. Sorry to hear that your friend Dave passed on but it's nice knowing his old shotgun is still in use by his son.

Great custom job Buffalo, this video reminds me of custom job I did years ago to a break action single shot J.C. Higgins 16 ga. . Like you, I cut the barrel down, mine from 30 inches to 20 inches, I then had a machinist friend tap the muzzle to accept the Rem. Choke System. I then silver soldered on a front ramp sight, and I was able to tap the receiver and mounted a Willams Foolproof receiver sight. Someday I plan to silver solder a rail on the receiver, so I'll have enough meat to drill and tap for a scope. Like you mentioned, it did nothing to add to the value, but it makes a quick loading fast swinging gun to keep in the camper for self-protection.... Thanks for the great videos, you are the real deal!

Beautiful work! A buddy of mine just bought one of those for $100 and I had never heard of them before. Is that button on the bottom so the shells don't eject out when you break it? Oh, thanks for the shout out. You didn't have to do that!

    • @buffalosoutdoors
      @buffalosoutdoors  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Yes, that little lever is a selector for "eject" or "extract". Your channel is the good stuff. If I can help just one person find it that maybe hadn't found it before then I have done a good deed for the day :)

      I have 3 Baikal mp18's. 2 in 12ga and 1 in .223. my .223 can hold 1/4 moa with varmint ammo.
I have a 12ga set up very similar to the one in the video except I added ghost ring sights. my other one is bone stock. the 18.5" I did up weighs less than 4 lbs.
the ease of use and lack of a hammer make these things perfect backpack guns. even a great survival gun to take on hunting trips.

Wonderful... I own same gun in 12 ga 28" barrel and love it... One thing to point out, you could break the gun and attach the fore and to the barrel for packing.. This way you will have only two pieces ( barrel+fore end and butt) to handle....

Used to have one of these that Papa gave Daddy. Wood stock model. It was an older model. Very stiff action, and kicked like a mule with any high-brass load. Wish I still had it. Edit: The one we had didn't have an ejector, just an extractor.

As usual, nice job with the Baikal videos - looks like you have a very useful gun & setup there. As the former owner of two Baikal MP-18s, I didn't know that you could de-cock the actions, that the barrels are chrome-lined, or that the pistol grip had a storage compartment - great job highlighting that. The Baikals seem to be solid guns (typical, since they ARE Russian), but as a left-handed long gun shooter, I prefer the tang safety or exposed hammer. That extractor/ejection switch is really neat though; it didn't seem to work on my .410, but did on my 20 gauge. I also found the trigger reach quite long for my short arms - that said, thanks to your videos, I'd certainly look closely at another in 12 gauge if I found one for a good price.
    Kind Regards.

Like you state on the video, you have customised it to your own liking and especially for back packing. However the gun is very easily disassembled to two main parts, the barrel and the stock if necessary cutting the space needed almost in half. Obviously the shortening saves the trouble of reassembling.

Something about that 22 adapter to think about. The adapter is only a few inches long compared to the 18-20 inch long barrel that it resides in. That barrel with its much larger diameter compared to the 22 lr actually acts a silencer. I would be interested in a video on those adapters without shooting at steel. Hell I may just pick up a couple.

I'll tell you something, I don't know if you're aware...with the key to open the scale, you can assemble and disassemble the hammer, with a cartridge in the chamber. You dismount by pressing this lever and then you press the trigger, you release without stopping pulling the trigger, (the key tells you). To mount the hammer you press the lever again. greetings from 💪🏾🇦🇷

Nice little backpacking gun there. I picked up one of these a couple years ago at a pawn shop pretty cheap, it's one of the ones imported by Remington and sold as the Spartan 100 but it's the same gun. I already shortened an NEF for a backpacker so I'll just leave the Spartan as it is. I have a circuit I like to make of all the places that sell used guns and I've ended up with quite a few single shots since they're so dang cheap.

Buffalo's Outdoors. Me again. I saw where you put the heat shrink on the break open lever. I had the same problem with it biting the finger. But where it was actually getting me was just above that in the vertical area. It looked like that part was sheared out of flat stock and then bent into shape but they didn't smooth the sharp edges. I used a Dremel and stone wheel to round it off and then polished it smooth. Much better now!!

Hi Buffalo, I have had the Baikal IJ - 18E single barreled 12 gauge shotgun since 1985, I used to carry it taken down in 3 pieces like you do, but it is 37 years old now, I got worried about the firing pin spring being compressed permanently. I am in a country where spare parts are not readily available, could I carry it taken down, or should I rather relax the spring to protect it.

I have that same gun in both the Remington in a wood stock and Bakail and I really liie the Bakail more because i can beat it up more. I also chopped the gun but haven't set up a bead.

OUTSTANDING I would have put a large Truglo bead for the front sight . and threaded the inside of the barrel for different size screw-in chokes .

I have a beat up single shot Stevens, I bought it for $53, with a natural wear out "patina" that gives it character, so I know what you mean.

I want to do something similar to a HR single shotgun but they have seemed to have dried up in my area.

What do you think of baikil shotguns as a whole please I want an honest opinion

I think they build robust shotguns. Not the lightest not the prettiest but they work.

Could someone explain why gun manufacturers make the barrel the size they do ? Is a longer barrel more accurate or is a shorter barrel more accurate? Is a longer or shorter barrel more damaging/ deadly? What are the benetfits or not of differrent barrels.

Couldn't even imagine someone in America likes our russian shotguns. Nice modifications! In Russia you cant have a ready-to-shot rifle less than 800 mm, so if i do such a modification, i'd have a problem with law ^)
