Arizona Peace Trail DISASTER // 750 Miles on my Quad

  • Riding our ATVs on the AZPT was awesome and challenging! We had flat tires, a broken spring, and an quad that quite working. But my CFMoto 1000 Overland was an absolute beast on the trail and didn't have any issues at all! I can't recommend this trail enough! Go ride it!!

    This is one of the very few videos on youtube that is watchable with background music - it isn't completely dubbed over the machines, or outrageously obnoxious, or both. The best videos only have the music made by the machines. Still worth a thumbs up.

      Thanks! We like music in our videos (obviously), but I know what you mean. We really try to keep a good balance between the natural sounds and the music.

    On those steep drop-offs, have someone hold onto your back tires so that the quad won't endo, then when the front tires reach the bottom, you just gas it. Works every time. I have went off of vertical drop-offs that were 6 feet high, and absolutely vertical. It will work. One time I was in a deep canyon and had to go over a downed tree that was about 12 inches in diameter, and there was 4 feet of air under the tree. My 2 buddies held my rear tires and I eased over. I actually got off that time, and stood to the side. I gassed it and it leveled out slick as a whistle. My 2 friends were on dirt bikes, so we just man-handled them over the drop. We were soooooo hoping that we did not have to go back up it. None of us had been down that wash. A little ways further I had to winch my quad down a 10 foot vertical drop. One of the bikes went around it on a very sketchy 4 inch wide trail, and the other guy just pushed his bike over the side. I could not believe that he did that. I told him that I could lower his bike with my winch cable, but he elected to shove it over the side.
    A funny story about that, both of my friends had been down that wash the week before on their bikes, but they had dropped into the wash past those 2 vertical drops. They told me that they had found a wash that I could not go down with my quad, the week before. As we went over some more nasty obstacles and made it out of the canyon, they said that this was the canyon that they were talking about. I am 76 years old now, and I mostly ride alone, so I do not do that sketchy stuff any more. But if I had help, I would do the holding the tires thing again. It is really not a big deal on places like you see in this video.

      We thought about doing something similar, but since it was an out and back part of the trail anyway, we just didn’t think the risk was worth it. And none of us are super experienced riders so we just wanted to be cautious. Thanks for the recommendation though!

      @@BroBuildsGarage You are most welcome. My Son and I went on a trail called the "Foredice" that is in the Sierras close to the Rubicon Trail that is near Lake Tahoe. It was the roughest trail that I have ever been on. It totally destroyed the bottom on my Polaris Sportsman 500 quad. I had to completely redo the skid plate system after I got home. I had to winch so many times that I would not even rewind the winch cable, I just wrapped it around my chain saw mount. I do not ever want to repeat that trail. My Son had his very well modified Jeep, and he had to winch a lot too.
      When I lived in Nevada, I would go into the most rugged terrain just to see if I could. That was 30 years ago, I am much more reserved now days. 20 years ago I went down to Moab. My Son was with a Jeep group, and they did not want any quads with them the first day, so I went by myself. I caught up with 4 Jeeps and asked them if I could ride along with them because Moab has some terrain that has the potential to kill you. We had a great ride. Those guys had never seen someone on a quad go over that challenging terrain. I had them hold my back tires a couple of times. It was awesome. Thanks for the reply.

    You went up on the Wagon Bow ranch! My Grandmother was born on Bogles Ranch Rd. I own 50 acres of land there because of my upbringing in that area. I LOVE that land!! I thought I had scoured the Aquarius Mtn Range, but you brave men have shown me there's much more to be seen. As if the scenic vistas weren't enough to take your breath away, I thought only cowgirls & seasoned cowboys knew about this GEM in the desert, with it's own aquifer, just off the HWY! I have LITERALLY stood on that ground and watched water swell from the ground at Tom Brown Well. I have saved so many men who didn't understand the terrain with my big badass truck. Surveyors. From the Aquarius Mtns to Burro Creek, SOLDIER ON! ARIZONA IS BEAUTIFUL!!

    At 7:11 you refill your cooler with icecubes and water bottles. You can also fill it with a few frozen water bottles. Keeps everything cool and by the end of the day, when they're defrozen, you can drink those bottles as well. That way you have way more space in your cooler. That is if you can find frozen bottles on the go offcourse... 😅 If you freeze them yourself, just pour out half a glass cause freezing them expands the water and will damage the bottle 😊 greetings from Belgium.

Dealing with the trail and it's problems is part of the game. Dealing with the human aspect with the truck not so much. What was the issue with the quad that wouldn't start. I'm not done watching, but before you just buy another POS OEM spring, I suggest you go to Dunbar spring in downtown Phoenix (literally they are near 5th ave and Jefferson???). They were one of the first businesses in Phoenix and are very good at what they do. Ask them what would work best, but they can *MAKE* you a thin spring stack of three or whatever they recommend and they will last forever.
    Haven't been there for 10 years ish, so a call would be recommended.
    Maybe someone saw what happened to the wheels and tires off your truck...if not, we can just hope the rattlers or scorpions get them.

    Did you use any kind of navigation during this trip? What are the names of the main trails? I'm new to learning how to find and navigate trails out west. Any tips?

    • @BroBuildsGarage
      @BroBuildsGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have no idea what the names of the individual trails are. I used onX Offroad on my phone. There's a facebook group for the Arizona Peace Trail and they have downloadable gps files (for garmin, phone apps, whatever you need) that have the entire trail, including all the alternate routes, waypoints, and points of interest.

    Hello that trip looked like an adventure of a lifetime. I'm getting pretty serious about pulling the trigger on a cforce 1000. How has yours held up? Do you still like it? Had any troubles other than melting your clutch which I saw you said was your fault? Would you recommend one? Would you buy one again? When you guys went to leave the hotel and your buddy's wouldn't start that's the kind of thing I worry about.

    • @BroBuildsGarage
      @BroBuildsGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      About 1500 miles on mine and zero issues. I also have a 500s with over 2000 miles, also no issues. So, turns out the motor on the 600 was totally shot (user error, was ridden who knows how long after mice chewed up the air filter). Should be covered under his extended warranty.
      I would absolutely recommend cfmoto to anyone! I love my machines and doubt I’ll ever buy another brand.
