I believe there is a seasonal decoration mod that's a little more subtle. Can't think of the name atm

the "more festival decor in town v2" mod on nexus adds some pumpkins and jack-o'-lanterns on the town buildings during fall (and other decorations around other festivals) but it's pretty subtle and not spooky/creepy.
