I freaking love your channel. I'm a shopaholic and trying to reduce my consumption on many levels. I was laid off and then covid hit. My credit card really took a hit and it was my wake-up call. I don't buy anything new anymore, it is my new golden rule but sometimes, thrifting or used shopping can also be really addictive. It is now my new demon. I'm not giving up! You're reassuring me to continue and that anybody can become a minimalist even the shopping addicts like me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
I am so glad I stumbled across your channel a few months ago! I'm in my early twenties and just got my first "career" job,so I'm trying to embrace minimalism and invest in my future rather than spend all of my disposable income which is very tempting 😅. Your videos make me think, and are always creative and visually relaxing/appealing! Keep doing you girl 🎉
About the phone; Having a workphone has been my savior. Especially as an entrepreneur it's great to put down your workphone during weekends and relaxed evenings, but still being in touch with friends and checking the tube on you private one😊 I recommend this to everyone who can feel stressed out about workstuff and find themself checking during free time!
The perfect compromise: one phone with two sim cards so you can simply switch off whichever one you want or to really disconnect just turn the phone off
I know the only one thing seems to be the buzz phrase right now, but I’m not one, who aspires to only have one of something. Although, I understand the concept. My aspirations are to simplify my life. I once worked for a principal who owned 7 pairs of black pants. She wore black pants most of the time, she said it made getting dressed less stressful. When she found ones she liked she bought multiples. While this isn’t minimalistic it is simplistic. If I find something I really like I buy one for now and one for later or maybe more. Pretty much if I like something it will be discontinued so buying extra saves me a lot of frustration. It is a rare occasion I regret doing this. I do this with groceries as well.
Yes! Totally get this. I wear black turtlenecks soooo often, but I have a baby/toddler, so they need a wash pretty quickly. I can’t and won’t wash one turtleneck every other day, I’d rather have a few in my wardrobe.
Yes, I second this! And in a way having this kind of uniform is also minimalism. I actually like watching the „only one of“ videos because it is just interesting what kind of things people value and sometimes it reminds me that I have multiples of something and should get rid of them.
Totally agree! I think that’s why I love duplicates. Still working in whittling down the unused excess, but I agree there’s room for one and there’s room for multiples when you need them!
I’m really happy your a bit different, and doing it in a healthy way. Like I see people have there windows closed up, have only 4 utensils, only 2 plates, and literally just a bed without the frame. I’m happy you are succeeding this in a much better way!
I have strong minimalist tendencies, and try to keep material things to minimums and to things I actually use frequently. But as a new mom of two, I find it’s been a life saver having doubles or triples of certain items. IE) sheet sets, basic Ts, etc. Things get messy quick, and although some days seeing that “extra” stuff lying around irritates me, I always appreciate it big time when there is a big spill/mess. I sometimes get stuck on wanting to have low minimalist numbers of things, but I definitely am beginning to appreciate that although I generally believe that “less is more”, sometimes “more is ACTUALLY more” lol
I remember first saw this 'own 1 of' at Sarah Therese, and that's from where I drifted to your channel maybe a year ago. I really see how with your journey you become more confident and happy with yourself. I find your voice to be really soothing, so I often listen to your clips while working.
One of everything 👍. That is what I believe in. My type of woman. I only purchase quality stuff to last a long time. I buy the North Face wicking shirts for workout and it lasts me 10 years like new. I see your points and I think it is a very good advice because people need to hear this! These commercials and advertisements are destroying people’s lives with debts! Well done video. 🙏👍
I ditched my wallet finally & switched to a slim cross body purse. I love it. Fits all my cards, keys, phone & chapstick, I rarely carry money. And carrying my personal items so close to my body makes me feel safer in a way. I walked a lot the past few winters, so I have 3 mitts/gloves: for cool days, cold days & -25 plus days. Since working from home I walk less 😢.
Ya but you’d have to wash it a lot more, in that way I personally don’t find it all that convenient, it does depend tho if u have both a washer and a dryer, in many places it’s common to only have a washer so u need more then one sheet, like many places in Japan for example, they let their stuff air dry.
I do have two cell phones but this is coming from a deaf and accessibility perspective: my iPhone is my daily driver esp since it hooks up to the computer in my car so I use it for maps, etc. But my Google Pixel (the cheapest one at $500) has the Live Transcribe feature and it captions all media that I'm watching online if it doesn't come already captioned. So when I need my Pixel, especially in a masked pandemic, I can use Wifi on it or switch my Sim over when I know I'm going to be doing something that requires more communication with hearing people since they almost never wanna write/type and they don't know ASL.
Loved this. 💜 Gone are the days when I would watch bikini hauls (sometimes 10 suits in one haul!) and question if I had enough.. conversations like this confirm that I have plenty and remind me to stay mindful with my purchasing.
I saw yours collabs with Signe from Use Less and have been binge watching your videos ever since. As a Canadian, a pair of gloves, winter boots and warm winter coat are a must! Love your videos!!
I recommend checking the thrift stores if you want a replacement for your wallet. You can find like new, name brand accesories at a fraction of the cost. If you really feel a bit self-concious about it, I am sure there is a wallet out there waiting for you to take her home ❤
I'm the same and only own one bikini (also never been worn) and I have a jewellery box very similar to yours. I love that its compact and if I'm going away anywhere I can just zip it up and pop it in my bag rather than spending ages trying to choose what jewellery I want to take on a trip with me :) x
Re: wallet, you might want to take it to a shoe repair and see if they can clean/re-condition your wallet. I will say that when my items start to look worn ~ they do get replaced.
As a huge simpsons fan i appreciate the inserts. And have loved your content over the years, it's been a massive inspiration for my budget/declutter and even my no buy this year! So far so bad lol but I'm learning as I go and that's all I can ask for right now!
there are bag/ wallet/ shoe repairman still. We have one for shoes in Guelph but I am sure Toronto has a lot more options for wallet and bag repairs too! it is designer so it would probably be more worth it. repairing things when you can is so much better than just tossing it and buying a brand new one. They could actually have that wallet looking brand new again. "Repair Studio" on youtube is such a nice channel seeing the before and after's.
Now I am going to consider to buy a pair of mittens. I always have cold hands and they really hurt when it's freezing cold here in England. I have gloves that I can even when I am using my phone and other gadgets but I guess I need mittens now.
Love this video and insight! Thank you for pointing out that we only need 1 belt 😊 Life really can be so much simpler if we embrace aspects of minimalism which will ultimately help us live a life of intent!
I own zero belts and zero bathing suits. Those are two things I never use. I don’t understand multiple eyelash curlers. I only have one of those, too. I have a laptop and an iPad, but I have been debating selling the iPad as I rarely, if ever, use it. I either use my iPhone or my laptop. I also have a Kindle Paperwhite, because I don’t want distractions from the internet when I read my e-books. Yup, I think I’m going to sell my iPad. Love these “I only have one of...” videos, and I hope you do another soon. Thanks for the inspo!
I couldn’t find a jewellery box that would work for me, so I repurposed an AirPods box by cutting up some parts and gluing them back in as dividers in the box - so stoked with it as my first sad diy attempt 😂
I do have 2 belts. My mom has worn them aswell.. she broke it from wear and tear. I cut a part off because the belt was too long and now I have been using it for at least a few years. But now I broke it aswell and I only have 2 small holes left.. so soon I will only have 1 belt (also from my mom). I have too many wallets.. Although I only use my wallets on vacation. 😅
When I lived in Quebec I used to wear both, first layer: gloves, 2nd layer: mittens!!! and the wallet just need a good cleaning: I am sure there is a TH-cam video to help!.
Even just taking some leather conditioner to it would be a good way to prolong its life and care for it. A good oil or wax-based conditioner is a great investement for more than your wallet too. Shoes, purses, and even coats need treating.
Thanks Christina, to me the more beat up and used my wallet is the more I love it (as long as the zipper is still intact and functional) just as is a much loved leather bag or jacket. Stay well, enjoy the great weather.
** new subscriber *** binge watching! love your honesty and down to earth-ness. i just came from your other video about not wearing heels, dresses, skirts and being in the itty bitty TC. LOL you're awesome!
Nice video! Some of those things I don't even own, so hey, that's good on me. 😆 I'm definitely trying to be more minimal and watching these kinds of videos has helped me a lot.
The ´more than one phone´ thing I've been thinking about lately because I need to decide if I want a work phone. Of course I don't need more than one phone, but the work phone stays at work. I get a lot of phone calls at work and I would get a separate number, and you separate work and private more.
I feel like there are good reasons for a work-cellphone! I mean, ultimately, the goal is to simplify life. Minimalism is great for that in many places, but sometimes having more than one of something can make life easier and not more full/stressful/annoying.
I have a separate phone for work - they pay for it not me so I don't see myself as owning two phones, if I leave my job I have to return their one. I don't take my work phone on holiday or check it at the weekend. If I had all my work email coming to my personal mobile while I was not meant to be working, I think I would struggle to switch off, so for me it makes sense to have the work phone.
Honestly you could look into getting the wallet refurbished - if you go to like a cobbler or leatherworker they could breathe a new life into it with some cleaning and shining!
Seems a bit daring in my eyes, the single pair of mittens. My climate here is milder and I am trying to make sure to own at least 2 pairs of summer and winter gloves in case one gets wet or lost.
Love your video as always! Please do a jewelry collection video and if you have any tips for editing down your jewelry collection. Thank you for making great videos!
Oh this is such a fun idea. I'm mid-everything-I-own declutter and this is a good thing to think about. Do I really need more than one of some/most things? Excellent question to ask
I have 2 jewelry boxes and my mirror on my vanity slides open to hold rings (where I put earrings) and necklaces. I am decluttering my jewelry a bit, but don't intend to get rid of much. I do have 4 or 5 watches though which seems a bit unnecessary.
I only own 1 face cleanser, 1 sheet set, 1 pair of house slippers pj’s and robe. And I ha d 1 bottle of essential oil that I use in my only oil diffuser
And do they mention that creating waste is not very friendly for the envoirment? You shouldn't just "throw it away". I hope the book mentions that. Try to sell it, give it a new home. Give it away for free. Donating isn't always helpful because if the organization gets too much they will also have to throw it away. Then recycling and if that is not possible you can throw it away.
I only have one pair of running shoes, sunglasses, tennis shoes, watch, wallet, earrings, scarf, backpack, water bottle, and bra (I use bralettes lol). But I have so many bags and tons of clothes 😭 work in progress (:
Very inspirational! I thought there was not one thing I only own one of, but I do only own one cell phone and one wallet! And I don’t own an eye lash curler. I’ve just never needed one! It does make me think about what I should own one, okay maybe two of. I may get there one day.
I edit on an external SSD drive then move the video to an external lacie hard drive when the video is done! So I don’t use my Mac internal storage bc you’re right it gets eaten up quick with videos!
@@Christinamychas thank you! and of course, I LOVE your content. everything you talk about resonates with me and the way you speak to your audience is gentle, realistic, and inspiring. Keep it coming. your work is transforming lives
I wouldn't call myself a minimalist by any stretch of the imagination, but I actually also only have one of most of these categories 😂. In fact, I have zero mittens, but that might be because we don't need them in the Netherlands. I do have 3 belts: thin black, wide black, thin brown. I wear them all, so that's cool 😂. I have one pair of gym workout shoes, but I am a marathon runner so I have three pairs of running shoes: one pair for speed work and two for distance runs, since it's supposedly healthy to vary them. I also have only one watch. My Garmin, which I use for running, but also for daily use. I take it off for formal occasions, or I used to when we used to have formal occasions😏.
ahaha I only own one belt as well. A plain black simple one with a plain buckle. Works for everything! Good idea huh! Same with the phone, laptop, wallet, and eyelash curler!
Fun video! I was actually debating if I should buy an ipad pro for Procreate haha. Were you using Procreate on your laptop or an iPad in the skillshare portion? Thank you in advance!
I have a swimsuit problem. 🤣 I live in Hawaii and own waaay too many swimsuits. And watching this video made me realize I have a ton I don’t wear so I’m just going to go ahead and go purge those right now.
I was told belt and shoe colors should match? I also noticed that suits demand narrower belts than jeans and I am way too lazy to borrow the belt in my leather pants to wear jeans.
That makes so much sense indeed. I find its all about balance and what works for some might not work for others (i.e. sometimes we have to have a biz phone), but what this video offers can def make life more simple and intentional if even applied 50% to your life. What do you think?
I laughed at your bikini one since I'm the complete opposite. I live in SoCal so I only have one winter coat (I have several fashion jackets for mild weather but only one for when it actually gets cold) and several bikinis 😂
Okay this makes me laugh. We have 3 whisks of different sizes, which I think is a lot. 2/3 whisks broke yesterday. My husband was sad we’re down to just 1 because he’s the cook and uses them a lot. I told him, “I think most people only have 1 whisk...” and he says “No way! 2 at minimum!!!!” 🤣 I have a work computer and a personal computer, but the work computer belongs to my employer so if I were to leave, I’d be down to just my personal computer.
What are some things you only own one of? Would you minimize down to one of each? And don’t forget! The first 1000 people to use this link will get 30% off an annual Skillshare Premium Membership: skl.sh/styleapotheca04211 let me know what you try! xx
Can you do a video of “What are some things you own more than one of?” because then I’ll be able to contribute more 🤣 I have more than one of most everything and can stand to minimize in so many areas!
If u r only going to own one wallet, I highly recommend a wallet from Hobo International called “The Lauren” it is the best wallet EVER!!! In my opinion, it’s the greatest wallet design u could think of. I will only carry this wallet as long as I live. I love it that much. Unfortunately, I cannot say that I only own one of them bc I just think the designs and colors r really beautiful. I’ve never had one wear out. They r very good quality. Great video😁
Why minimalists on TH-cam just talk about things ? It is so controversial If you are minimalist, I think you do not worry too much about things... am I wrong?
No I don’t think you’re wrong! Interesting point! but I think everyone’s on their own path with it, and at different stages of holding onto vs letting go. Things are a part of the equation especially if one previously held a lot of value in them. I also just feel like content like this is a little light-hearted and I find it interesting to see what people have one of vs multiples. That’s my POV here but I totally get what you’re saying!
I think minimalists like to share their journey. One might feel the need for 2 items while the other person might think one is enough. Talking isn't necessarily worrying right? I think a minimalist likes to free themselves from being overwhelmed by their possessions, or their current life style/health/relationships and how having less contributes to their life. But everyone is different!😊 Sorry I keep rambling
I only have one purse as well. It’s a Michael Korrs and I’ve had it for nearly 10 years I think. It’s as good as new thanks to the textured material which hasn’t warn and navy so hasn’t marked. X
I can't speak for the creator, but by living this lifestyle a person might find they have extra money in hand to save or invest. Or even have a fun fund and treat yourself to a trip or something YOU deserve 😊
The only “one of” I have .....my husband! Does that count? Lol
Ha! Love it!
I loved 🥰 your question!! Good one!! 😂🤣
😂
At a time, yeah?
YES!
I second all of this, I'm in this same position and these videos have been so incredibly inspiring!

Also great to switch; when you're working leave your private phone at home so there is no social media stuff that can distract you👊
Interesting! I never thought of that!
The perfect compromise: one phone with two sim cards so you can simply switch off whichever one you want or to really disconnect just turn the phone off
The level of consumption has got Completely crazy in some countries as it seems. Sad to watch people struggling with this desease.
A jewelry tour would be fun 👍🏼
🤗🤗 I think so too!
Yes please!
I was about to say it 😍
👍🏽
Yes pls. Im always curious about your inverted half moon necklace. I've been looking for it. Lol Though Im on No Buy rule on jewelries this year 😣

I only keep one set of sheets for my bed! Makes me fold my laundry and I don't have a cluttered linen closet 😉😉

I have two pairs of mittens, a spare when your go to pair gets all wet and mushy.. (you know when you randomly decide to join in Ona snowball fight).
I love your statement, who cares, it does what I need it to do.

I have.. three laptops. But that's only because I dont have the money to afford a good one, so I take whatever hand me downs I can get
I am forever impressed with your progress❤️
I'm gonna be sad to ditch my water bottle for a new one eventually...we've been through a lot together. 😌

You could send your wallet to Leather Surgeons for restoration!
I only own 1 face cleanser, 1 sheet set, 1 pair of house slippers pj’s and robe. And I ha d 1 bottle of essential oil that I use in my only oil diffuser
Yep! Mitaines are a must in Canada, hello from Montreal! I only own an iPad, my employer provides a laptop and anyway I wouldn’t need a laptop.
The "Throw It Away" guided journal by Guru Notebooks is helpful for getting rid of stuff. It's on Amazon.
Hello from Alberta Canada! Awesome video! 😀👍 more things I can focus at reducing.
What's one things that you think you can reduce? For me its things like Legos 😜
Very inspirational! I thought there was not one thing I only own one of, but I do only own one cell phone and one wallet! And I don’t own an eye lash curler. I’ve just never needed one! It does make me think about what I should own one, okay maybe two of. I may get there one day.
How do you manage your storage for TH-cam videos/editing? (Dropbox, external hard drives etc)
My MacBook is full as I can’t edit videos now 😫
I edit on an external SSD drive then move the video to an external lacie hard drive when the video is done!
I would love a jewelry tour! Btw that box is perfect and looks so nice😌 I can’t wait to challenge myself to have more categories go down to one😛
It’s actually challenging! slowly but surely I think!
Which shoes do you wear at the pharmacy? I work at the pharmacy too!
The wallet does what needs to do
I wouldn't call myself a minimalist by any stretch of the imagination, but I actually also only have one of most of these categories 😂.
I have a jewelry case exactly like yours, just another brand. It carries all my pieces and I think it’s more than enough for me too😉
Yes to Jewellery tour please :)
ahaha I only own one belt as well. A plain black simple one with a plain buckle. Works for everything! Good idea huh! Same with the phone, laptop, wallet, and eyelash curler!
Your thumbnail was hand written? It looks so well done!
Not he thumbnail! I wish haha - the title card of the video - where I wrote “one of” 😬
Fun video! I was actually debating if I should buy an ipad pro for Procreate haha. Were you using Procreate on your laptop or an iPad in the skillshare portion? Thank you in advance!
I use it on my iPad - which I own one of as well 😂
@@Christinamychas ❤️ Nice! Love your channel. Keep up the good work!
I have a swimsuit problem. 🤣 I live in Hawaii and own waaay too many swimsuits. And watching this video made me realize I have a ton I don’t wear so I’m just going to go ahead and go purge those right now.
Wow just found out I'm a "minimalist" 🤑 I thought it was normal to have only one of these...
Please do the jewelry tour
Jewellery tour please! ❤️🙏
Yes to Intentional Spending videos and 1 Belt
I like this sequence... I love Christina's content
Vera of Simple happy zen indeed too good..
She’s lovely!
Your skillshare ad is the only one worth watching tbh
Haha thank you!
Anyway, think about podcast ;) ..and I'm done trying to get your attention in the first minutes after upload. Hi from Poland:)
Haha omg one day!
What gloves are those? Fellow Canadian here :)
They’re the cabin mittens from roots!
I like your vids. They are REAL
I can relate to only one belt and wallet! I don't see the need to have multiple.
I was told belt and shoe colors should match? I also noticed that suits demand narrower belts than jeans and I am way too lazy to borrow the belt in my leather pants to wear jeans.
So love this!
Good information. I can do this. 👍🏻👍🏻
duuuude. minimalists are so chic. i have so much stuff and I'm still trash. lol
Some people have a second phone because of work and the company pays for the work phone
Haha omg I have 3 winter coats of different freezing levels! 😭😭😭
I bought my first winter coat at 25 because we moved out of cali lol
what's a winter coat? i live in socal 😂
No gym membership and or coffee shops coffee for you! Girls gotta pay those bills 😉🤣! Love your content!
2 at minimum!!!!” 🤣
I have a work computer and a personal computer, but the work computer belongs to my employer so if I were to leave, I’d be down to just my personal computer.
Clean the wallet, oil/ condition the wallet ,it will live forever
Such a beauty
I am a multiples hoarder 😅 but i don't own much useless stuff tho

What are some things you only own one of? Would you minimize down to one of each?
And don’t forget! The first 1000 people to use this link will get 30% off an annual Skillshare Premium Membership: skl.sh/styleapotheca04211
let me know what you try! xx
I will like to see your jellevery review🙃
Can you do a video of “What are some things you own more than one of?” because then I’ll be able to contribute more 🤣 I have more than one of most everything and can stand to minimize in so many areas!
@@melissaandreag totally!
@@carolinelybecker3706 People have to make money and pay off student loans someway!
Love your videos! Inspires me to spend less I am also a shopaholic
Why minimalists on TH-cam just talk about things ? It is so controversial
If you are minimalist, I think you do not worry too much about things...
The brand of your backpack Samara: one of Russian cities is called Samara)). I guess the brand owners are from this city 🙈
Cool! I didn’t know that!
I have a daughter named Somara! Pronounced the same but before the internet allowed us to research the correct spelling. Haha.
I don’t think this brand has anything to do with Russia. The creator of this brand is from Kenya
Dear God I wish I had found you $20,000 dollars ago🥲 Bless you girl!
I only have one purse as well. It’s a Michael Korrs and I’ve had it for nearly 10 years I think. It’s as good as new thanks to the textured material which hasn’t warn and navy so hasn’t marked. X
I've got exactly the same jewelry box :D
Oh, hi there!
🥰🥰
Okay, with all these things you don't buy, what do you spend your money on?
I can't speak for the creator, but by living this lifestyle a person might find they have extra money in hand to save or invest. Or even have a fun fund and treat yourself to a trip or something YOU deserve 😊
