I do like the way you run your channel where we can all learn together. I think you could use this mount if you turned it upside down and then added a wedge on the firewall so the engine mounting surface is flat and horizontal.
Thanks I appreciate it. With the mount, seams there are few additional solutions to using it. I guess my main point is that because it’s referenced in their manual it’s a bummer that it won’t work unless you do some kind of modification, which can always be fun and challenging if that is the route taken.
Hey there. When I shot the video for the DU-BRO 101 series, I did NOT have an issue with the muffler. I had not done a final installation of the engine so the muffler had not gone on yet. I think that there may have been a revision in the engine where the muffler may be larger. I have flown this model (owned by my club mate) and the mount does its job very well. I've been pouring over this with the guys at DU-BRO and we've checked the DLE manual, as well as verified that nothing has changed in the casting of the mounts. There really must be some difference in the engine itself. Perhaps this should be escalated back to DLE for some investigation? Perhaps we could work together to get this resolved. Joshua
Hi, thanks for the reply. Ya, it is weird because unless Im doing something crazy , its just doesn’t fit. If I push it ad far forward as needed, there may be a fraction of an inch at the end to drill into , but I wouldn’t trust it. I have read in some forms others having the issue. It’s certainly not DU-BROs fault. But I don’t get why this is a problem for some I guess. That would be great, you can email me at Rcplanetech@gmail.com if you would like to discuss further. I would be interested in figuring out what the issue is. Also, I have nothing but respect for DU-BRO, and I’m happy that you are still providing items for us in the RC world.
That’s a shame. I totally see 2 ways that you can use that mount. I’m doing a DLE20-RA right now. I will have that video uploaded by next weekend. Not with that mount, but I’m showing the mount that I used. Can’t wait to see how your install came out.
You COULD use the mount. You'd need to fit it to the engine inverted and either slope the firewall to compensate and correct the thrustline, or maybe put hardwood wedges behind the mount to, again, compensate. It would be "two wrongs DO sometimes make a right" and not the preferred method but if you REALLY want to use that mount...
Dude, the amount of Cuntry engineering and S. W. A. G . it would take to git rite what you suggested , it's gonna be put back together with Bubble gum wishes and Mickey Mouse dreams... Yeah, IT CAN be done, but git wrong, the plane is totally Un- trimmable...Hence a big ugly Crash...😮😮😮
Yep, where there’s a will there is a way. I saw a guy who extended the beam as well by bolting another strip of aluminum to the top of the beam. Thanks for the comment!
Hiyaz from Eastern Canada! Awesome video series! I was also thinking about placing a 1/8" to 3/16" thick aluminum spacer plate that is extended out further from the front of the Du-Bro engine mount by about 1/4" to 3/8" or more as needed, with washer spacers as thick and close as possible to the front of the actual Du-Bro engine mount (or, possible hex nuts to use as spacers or something similar). This extension plate would be placed between the Du-Bro engine mount and the engine's mount brackets. This method will require you to make necessary vertical adjustments to mounting the engine mount to the firewall. Looking forward to seeing your answer to solving this problem. I learned a few things from this video series as well. Keep the videos coming! Kalvin N, Rooky RCer...lol
Hi Kalvin, thanks for the ideas. I went with another mount. But your ideas are good, and helpful. Thats the way we do it in the hobby, learn and get ideas from others. Thanks for the comments, much appreciated
I saw that someone has done that on a forum. I mentioned that in the first video. It would be high up and you would have to arrange things differently, but I it could work.
I wish I'd known you want a engine mount cause I have a whole big box of large mounts that I won on eBay for just a few cents each!if you still need one I'll send you some pictures of what I have beside my engine
Thanks Steve, but as for now I have the mount I need. I’m going to use the Great Planes one. I appreciate the offer and Ill keep it in mind in the future, I may check back with you if I need one. Thanks so much.
Your 100% right...Tips are great sometimes... How ever can be very bad a lot of the times and make you think ok did i do something wrong or miss something like in your case...Happened to me before as well... Thought for sure i messed up really bad when i bought a item on ebay because what somebody told me after buying it.. Turned out they were way off what they said and my item worked out..
Well if I paid $50 for that DB motor mount and it did not fit as “advertised” I would send it back or I would get some aluminum bar stock, about 3/8” x 1/4” and use that as an elongated spacer between the motor mount and the engine mount and be done with it.
Will I was wrong did not see the angel before I flapped my big mouth still would have just used two plates but as a commenter I don't want to be a know it all still say a tiny bit of fab work witch is part of the hobb make it work lol this time I say you got me 😊
Nobody’s wrong, this is what makes it interesting. Its great to have the conversations and I didn’t take your comment as anything other than constructive. I think its great and it makes it much better for us all to throw around ideas. I have learned a ton from comments and suggestions such as yours. Pointing out this or that, or mistakes is perfectly fine with me as long as we are civil. Yep, modifications are part of the process. I don’t think I have ever built something that I didn’t tweak here or there to make it better or just change because of personal preference. Thanks a lot for your insight, I appreciate it!
well it's easy to armchair my thing is I never use the bolt patterns incidence and thrust angels for me i have watched you do a lot of building and was like what fab time but some don't leave the marked trail me gone strait into fabrication lol cant wait to see her sore and that's the bottom line great content and channel @@JamesRCPlaneTech
Awesome content! This is the kind of stuff that just helps the hobby and its hobbyist
Thanks!

A quick question, if I may: the black hexhead mounting bolts that come with the DU-BRO No. 682 Motor Mount, what size are they? Thanks.

can you put spacers to lift the engine up enough to clear the muffler
I saw that someone has done that on a forum. I mentioned that in the first video. It would be high up and you would have to arrange things differently, but I it could work.

Yes for sure, you need to take things cautiously. People may be well intentioned but not always accurate, like me!

Well , really it’s DLE, they list it as one to use. Du-Bro just made a basic mount and DLE “adopted” it.
