It shouldn’t be unreasonable to expect that people play by normal societal rules, even when looking for casual sex. The problem with Grindr is the assumption that everyone is looking for sex, and with the only requirement being willing participation. It also normalizes literal harassment when we learn to simply expect and accept this behavior.
It doesn't really matter how you let a stranger down, it's the same baseline reality they'll need to come to terms with, that the stranger is not an opportunity for a connection, and obviously not the person you were looking for. If a stranger doesn't respond to your random message, or they block you, they're clearly not interested, and there's just no mystery there to unravel. And no matter what, you never had anything to lose anyways. People don't owe each other an explanation for everything, and some things are self explanatory.
Saying anything back validates that person's advances. It tells them that it's okay to send unsolicited dic pics and whatnot. It really is best to block them or just not respond so as to not encourage them to keep on with the same behavior. Negative feedback doesn't work the way you think it does. It's still feedback, and it means that regardless of what was said, that person has your attention and they have your permission to continue with the questions, pics, etc. IMO, it's better when people ask, "looking?" rather than assuming you want to see their poorly lit genitals in a dark motel room. If they ask "looking?", that's a courtesy to you in case you are not interested in sex. Just my take though. I'm sure some people don't even want to be asked "looking?" at all, but I'm trying to meet in the middle here.
