It's hard to watch your children struggle with a challenge. But it's so much more rewarding when you are able to help them through it and see them victorious! That's a lesson that they carry with them forever. And one that they will remember when we are gone. Well done!
I love how you teach your children perseverance and that although not easy they can accomplish anything they put their minds into.A very valuable skill in life, CONGRATULATIONS MIKE AND LACEY ! know it's hard to have the patience to teach and that most times es it would be easier and faster to just do it yourself. Love to watch families working together. You're children are absolutely adorable.
Wonderful, you teaching your children. I have 4 brothers, as children my father repaired anything that was broken. If he had a screwdriver in his hand, my brothers had one in theirs. God bless you and your family!!
Oh Micah you’re a man of steel!!! And Selah, well you’re just alwaysssss working in the background helping in the garden growing your family food. And I am so proud of you sweet angel. Josiah, I honestly don’t think the whole farm would survive without you overseeing all the projects and encouraging your brother and sister and your dad too!! Y’all have a wonderful mother that cooks and cleans and homeschools the 3 of you. She’s the nurse and bookkeeper and makes the work look easy. I wouldn’t mess with her too much because she runs a mean plow which also means she’s very strong. And Mike, you’re a great farmer. The know how and perseverance it takes to get up every day knowing your hands and knowledge is not only going to feed your family but others as well and at the end of the day you can stash a little cash in your pocket for the next round. I’m just so proud of you all and want to thank y’all for teaching others how to get it done right and persevere under the pressure. Love to you all, Wendy from Carolina
As I watched you nourish and create beautiful soil to grow nutritious food I did not expect to find your little ones helping to make that happen. What an awesome family. You are making our earth a little bit better one farm at a time...
Mike your a good dad my dad raised us the same way, all of his children are successful in life. No drugs problems in children or grandchildren. Love the way you guys parent.
Once adults, your children will thank you for the honest, humbling and hard work ethics you have taught them. It will serve them well in life and get them far. You lead by example =)
It was really nice to meet you Lacey at the conference in VA. I wish we could have met Mike as well. And your kids are as beautiful in person as they are on the screen. Be safe in your travels and try to relax. I'm the lady that talked to you Friday when the kids were looking at the chicks. We were talking about people leaving crazy comments about your house. Again it was really nice to meet you. I was not dissapointed. You are as great a person as I thought.😊
Yes I remember you!! Thanks so much for coming up and talking! Sorry you didn't get to meet Mike it was a crazy, but good, day. I hope you had a fantastic weekend at HOA!
@@MikeTheFitFarmer yes we had a great time. We are already planning to stay next year. This year we could only stay for a few hours but we had a good time anyway. Love to you all.
Great Job Micah! You didn't give up and got your reward! Nice Job Dad on the gentle support and encouragement. That was beautiful to watch. Great ethics y'all are teaching your children. You guys are totally awesome parents and examples. Be Blessed!
Another great video !!😊 I'm so glad and thankful you're displaying examples of how to grow yourself Mike and you Lacy and how you are growing your children !!😊
Mike, that was a real job to watch Micah work. I never did figure out why he was crying unless it was that he was discouraged. I'm 60 years old and sometimes when I discouraged I cry. A little over a year ago I was discouraged. My wife was diagnosed with cancer and had been taken off work. Our savings had already been cleaned out from her health issues. She came to me and said, "l don't know how we're going to pay the mortgage.". I was praying and being discouraged I cried out, "Lord, I thought you lived me." About 2 0 minutes later He showed up and began to show out. Praise God from that moment forward we did not miss 1 obligation to any creditors. We are so blessed. I know as Micah grows he will learn about discourgement. You are a good father.
So sorry that you had to go through that really tough trial!! Yes we must turn to God when we are discouraged and remember that He is always there with us. Thanks so much for watching Wayne. Micah was crying because it was hard for him to fill up the buckets.
You are such a encouragement in the way you guide your children. That is what builds self esteem doing a job well and finishing it yourself. Your building some very strong individuals, all your children are such an asset to the farm, a real farm family. Good job Lacie working that Hoss seeder, can't wait to see the plants grow. I'm planting broccoli, kale and chard we'll see how long,g they will continue to grow, we're having some pretty cold mornings in the teens like 14 & 20s,days in the 50s. God willing I might get through Nov. and still have some veggies. God bless you and your family, your such an inspiration😍
Love seeing the kids help out in the garden with you and your wife. Such a hard-working and loving family. Glad you were able to help coach Micah and got him back at it. Stay blessed!
Love watching how you interact with your kids! Former teacher here...I live in NC too: Louisburg. Our farm is on the Tar River. We have 3 goats, 8 donkeys, and 90+ cows (Angus). I grew a few veggies in two small raised beds. I am not able to get about like i once could. When I was a young girl in VA my dad planted 36 acres in garden and he had orchards with peach, pear, apple, and nectarine trees. He sold at the farmers market and from his convenience store. He said he "wasn't going to have idle children" and he did not!!
Lacy..good thinking on teaching the children..the name of the variety..of the plants..varieties matter and most farmers I ask at the farmers market here in small town WY..don’t know the variety they plant. But you and yours will!
You are wonderful teachers to your kids!!!!! They will go far. Lacey, I just had to say you are beautiful!! And no, I'm not being funny. It just really stuck out today and just had to mention it. I really enjoy watching you both teaching and all growing and learning. Can't wait to see what's next.
Gosh Mike you do such an amazing job with the preparation of your seed beds for the future harvest. Love the new seeder. Well and truly both a time saver and a back saver.
Just love visiting your family and farm, Mike. You and Lacie are growing not just edible produce, but a fine crop of children. Well done.....ALL of you! : )
Well, your title piqued my interest, and I’m very glad to learn this seeder is NOT a piece of junk. Awesome job on training your children to work hard, but in a loving and fun way.
Hi guys, First, you guys are awesome parents! Second, a quick and easy handle can be made by simply trying a rope in the appropriate spot. Once you are happy with the position you can drill a hole on the handle so it doesn't slip. Love and support from California ❤️
Hi y'all. Great work little man! Way to go! I'm glad the Hoss tools work well for you. Everyone did an amazing job. I enjoyed this very much. Thanks for sharing. May HE bless you mightily. Grow strong...grow on !!!
Try this idea for removing the seeds from your seeder. Slide a sock or stocking over the end of a shop vac or vacuum hose and push an inch or 2 of the stocking inside of the hose to form a pocket. Vac the seeds out of the seeder, catching them in the pocket of the sock or stocking. With the hose pointing up, turn off the suction and then dump the pocketed seeds back into the envelope. This works like a dream - especially for those pesky tiny seeds, and you never have to tip the seeder over or disassemble the seed bin again. I enjoyed this video. I hope my tip works for ya. It really works for me! Be Blessed!
It was great to meet you and the family this weekend at HOA! Your talk on living in a yurt was one of the highlights. Yall had everybody laughing and the interaction during the Q&A was great! I hope your audience grows and grows! ~your friend and fan, the "Unfit Farmer"
So good to see how the Hoss seeder works Lacy. I've been considering getting one. Love how you are teaching and helping the children learn and enjoy their work. Team work DOES make the dream work. 😁 It also seems to me that when we all work together, it doesn't really feel so much like work as it does a Great and Pleasant Accomplishment. 😁 As always God bless and you are awesome 😁
Take a 2x2 & make your own handle between the 2 upright handles. And use a pocket knife to whittle the corners down & round them off where you want to grab it.
Yes good work ethic is very important. Most of the younger gen want to rely on new technology to do the work for them, but not realizing that that very same technology is making them obsolete in the work force. Encourage hard work with great rewards and will thank you in the end. Great job ! Hey I saw a video where a lady used her high heals to make the wholes for the seeds, but I’m pretty sure you could do transplants. Instead of the hand on knee method.
I'm doing my first conscious fall garden this year. I say conscious because I've had things in the garden over the winter by mistake, but it worked. This year I have cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, beats, and swiss chard.
Good job Dad! You are so right I worry about kids today and folks who don't teach their kids the value of hard work! There sure not doing them any favors!
I have a son that manages a heating and ac company and he tells me he can't find good well trained people who want to work. He's having a lot of problems hiring men and women willing to put in a full day of work. The pay is very good, so I don't understand why these young people think they should start a job at a 100k a yr when most of their training happens on the job. The company even pays for their schooling, I think it's twice a year they have to go to get caught up on the new technologies being put out every year. Honestly, I think this country is in for trouble in the future. We need more young families like this to teach their children the value of hard work.
Good to see how you teach your kids, I think it is often too easy for farmers to see their kids as "little employees" who need to "get it done" rather than someone they are teaching.
You folks could put a bar across the bottom of the handle to make another handle I’m sure either one of you could do it because I am 71 and I could do it woo hoo love your videos
I agree, many of the younger people (which is a lot since I'm 63 :) have not learned how to work, how to get up and do it even when you don't want to, to do it even when it gets hard and frustration. Kids want to help, especially if you teach and praise as things get hard. Too many people wait until their kids are older, after they quit asking to help, to try and teach them to help....big mistake. Put them to work early so they know they are an important part of the whole family.
Greetings Mike and Lacey..great to see you have reliable equipment and I'll be praying for you and your family that you'll be able to still make some great crops as winter approaches..I'm still getting the hang of a fall garden..I might end up with a bag of greens instead of some broccoli n cauliflower but we take the good with the bad and keep on growing 😁 😁😁.. blessings to you and your family 😇 😇😇 😇
a piece of dowel will help you with a handle for the seeder Lacey - from one lady to another when you show us how you put your handle on pre-drill before you screw so you don't split the wood
Very nice seeder, I'm using a 70yrr old Cole. One great feature is a lever that disengages the seed wheel, so you don't have to lift it up. You can push it and it won't drop seeds. Good luck 👍
Lacie , add your own lower handle on the seeder :) Adapt any tool to your needs. A round dowel rod and a small screw , through the side handles, to hold it on each end will do it :) Mike I appreciate your thoughts on every grower and their climate has different needs. One thing I have learned from other commercial grower youtube folks. Try to never walk on your grow beds , because it compacts the soil. In fact the no till folks say their crop yield is sometimes double the weight per square foot of grow area. Because the plant roots never fight the compacted soil and can set deep roots, where more water and plant food reside . Great to see the whole family helping as a farm family team:)
It's awesome to see the encouragement and work ethic your giving your children. I wish I would have learned a lot more from father about gardening. I did get the work ethic though.
How dare you work my boy Micah 😄😄 hard. When he started crying the Mother in me said oh what's wrong. Tell them for me they are knowledgeable and Great!!!. Keeping growing thanks for sharing.
