I've followed racing for over 40 yrs and I've never seen anything like it. It's not just the talent level, the racing itself is insanely good. I watched the 2014 Tour of Flanders for a bit the other day and there was an intact peloton at the front with 40k's left with nothing happening. The racing the last few years though has exploded! Evenepoel, Van Aert, Van der Poel, Pogacar, Pidcock, and Vingegaard- six once in a decade riders all racing in the same era. Like I said, I've never seen anything like it.

They are just different things. Pogacar is the best rider in the world, but he isn't the best 3 week rider. Vingegaard smashed him 2 years in a row by minutes and won both Tours comfortably. However Vingegaard can't do what Tadej does in one day races and Tadej completely smashed him in Paris Nice and another early season, one week stage race last year. Pogacar ought to win the Giro fairly comfortably, but if he wants to beat Vingegaard at the Tour, he will most likely have to focus only on the Tour. That would be a tremendous loss for all of us cycling fans.
Tom is a proper hero. An inspiration to the next generation (hope I won't regret saying this in 10 years like I did with LA!). Love his attitude, just loving riding bikes. Time will tell if Pog really is the natural talent he appears to be. In any case all of this is enough to inspire me to keep getting on my bike! 🙂
Amazing reaction from Tom Pidcock there. I think it emphasises what a great rider Pogacar is. Tom is top quality but his shock at what Pog did shows that he’s on another level to the rest in that race.
