    Does anyone else miss those older lands? I always loved how the extra texture at the bottom of the land made them look. The new lands just have a flat black bottom which isn't exciting at all. :/

      This is how I feel with all the new cards. I started playing while Innistrad block was in standard, so maybe I'm biased, but I prefer these borders over the new ones, especially over the new legendary borders.

    If ever there is a time for a sponsor, it's for all the stuff cracked in this video!

    • @barath4545
      @barath4545 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nahh he paid $100 per box for each originally and while he lost a lot of net profit cracking the boxes, the video will likely make over $1000+ for him, so right there is the profit in opening the boxes. Had he cracked Innistrad in 2011-2012, not many would've cared and the video would make $50-100 whereas now its rare and expensive to see an Innistrad cracked, so people watch it 10x more if not more than that, hence the $1000+ profits.

    • @BakaGrappler
      @BakaGrappler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@barath4545 I think you're completely discounting the emotional value of opening those boxes for the Prof. I very much doubt he would have ever done this on his own without something he believes in enough to be supported by him in a video to advertise it's existence. He'd have never done this for those leather deck boxes that bled their color on contact with water. This is a special event for him in all ways, shapes, and forms.

      It was the furthest the game's art advanced before the art direction in general took a turn toward more contemporary and less adult themes. Nowadays, the artists can't even paint towers (too phallic) or "boob plate" chest armor on females (while males regularly go topless) - instead, we get Battlebond's pink-haired grandmas in lazy CGI.

    This was a wave of nostalgia for me. I also got back into the game with innistrad (technically I started again with Scars of Mirrodin block, but I only drafted that a couple times, and it was mostly just watching draft videos), and even just seeing the commons and uncommons brought me back. Realizing that it was already 10 years ago, however, was not as pleasant of a surprise.

Two or more LitW was miserable to play against. Then, if you did get past the enchantment, you got chump blocked by a Young Wolf that came back stronger.

    Innistrad was my first set ever. I'd just spent 6 months studying overseas in highschool. When I got home I didn't really gel with my old friends anymore. So I started hanging out in the library with some people I knew and a few I didn't from the year below. We all got into magic and we spent the next two years playing Standard and Commander and Two-Headed Giant every lunch.
    Innistrad tugs at my heart strings and makes me remember my first Vampires deck. It was terrible, but I was new to the game and loved the designs. We'd play tournaments on Wednesday with the prize being a pack from everyone else!
    Thanks for cracking these Professor. Loved looking through old memories.

    I was unfortunately not around for this period of Magic the Gathering. My playgroup always talks about how much of an amazing block it was and how nostalgic they get whenever they see the cards come up in commander. They reminisce about how they used to play sleeveless on the concrete playground floor during school and would stuff their cards into their bags. My friend recently gave me his old Balefire Dragon from all those years ago for my birthday. It was obviously not in the best condition but the card had history and that is what made it so special. This set block has created so many memories for my playgroup and was the reason they kept playing. I will forever be grateful to this block. Thank you

What does the Prof do? The booster box game. He preaches most against the very thing he does. I was playing back then and, at the time, thought Wizards had really lost their way with the art and flavor, and that's when I got out. Got back in at Throne and am both amazed at how much I missed at the time, and in the years since. (Don't even get me started on thinking a $10 Lake of the Dead, Demonic Tutor, and Revised Sol Ring were just too much money.)
      What a great game that, so far, has stood the test of time.

    This reminds me of cracking my first ever box of innistrad. I get that wonderful feeling of nostalgia of staying up late cracking packs to build a handful of decks to play with friends. Those deck archetypes are still some of my favorite and influence my commander decks today with some of the original cards I got all those years ago.

    I'm looking forward to that next video I've never played a cube format in my life (I started playing MTG back during the original ice age, stopped playing around 5th dawn, good all my cards... Then I came back in years later when EDH hit the field missing all my old cards of the past that could be used again) thanks for the videos professor.

    These sets are so beloved, and rightfully so. I started my Magic journey in late 2012, so the cards and characters of innistrad block really captured my attention, and drove my excitement as much as RtR did!

    I really connect with your story about coming back to Magic. I did the same thing recently. Istarted during Prophecy, I left during Kamigawa and just returned last month. I found my old cards at my parents house and have been reliving the old days with high school friends over a group chat. I am really interested in cube and can’t wait to watch the new video! I put together a jumpstart set (maybe my favorite thing of all time) and am now interested in putting together a cube myself, though Card Kingdom has been sold out of starter cubes since i was looking. Thanks for sharing your passion, championing LGS (home to dnd, board games, and all sorts of hobbies in addition to Magic) and helping us consumers out!

    Brian, you helped me get back into the game about 3 years ago after taking about 15 years off. My bestie just got back into it after taking 20 or so years off and your channel has helped him as well. From a couple of 1994 magic players to another: Thank you! Your channel is top notch, you're a real mensch, and MTG should be honored to have you as it's ambassador, officially or not.

    Innistrad was the first booster box I ever bought! Loved the set so much, I went into my LGS a few weeks later and told them to sell me all the boxes they had at the time. I've opened a few over the years, but most of them are still sealed, waiting their turn. Great to know OG Innistrad has a special place in your history with Magic too!

    Innistrad was my first set too. I remember showing the game to my older brother and was the first thing we ever really bonded over. My brother went mono black zombies and I chose mono white angels. These days we get together for commander every so often or maybe a draft night. Thank you for the trip down memory lane! Love your channel!

    Professor, I started playing Magic last month. Your videos have helped me learn so much about the game. I've already taught my friends and family how to play. Next month I'm starting a Magic club at the library where I work. I'm hoping to build a cube for young people to use once they learn the basics of gameplay. Thank you for all the inspiring content, your love of Magic is truly infectious!

    My father introduced me to magic when I was 10 with Dark ascension and avacyn restored, back then I did’t even know what sets were or anything else, now it is my favorite of all time and I realize how lucky I was to get into magic with it. Seeing this brings alot of nostalgia now. And seeing you opens these makes me want to make a complete set of all these expansions.
